Anonymous is staging a 24-hour, in-store boycott at Sony stores around world on Saturday, April 16. So far over 1,000 people have RSVP'd through Facebook.

-Alpha5535d ago (Edited 5535d ago )

Decided to submit this myself with a working link

Meanwhile, at Sony HQ:

Tumbs up if... oh wait... this is not YT

captain-obvious5535d ago

shows you that they cant do shit

Storm235535d ago (Edited 5535d ago )

Haha...I am going to go to a Sony store on purpose just to buy something on this day.

DragonKnight5535d ago

You know what's funny, even if they wear some stupid masks they'll out themselves as Anon. Someone will just rip the masks off.

Can you imagine? "Don't support Sony, they don't support the illegal piracy of games!!" *sigh* kids.

@animated gif, frickin' hilarious.

HolyOrangeCows5535d ago

Internet boycotts....they always work.

I'd bet that 90% of those people never buy Sony products anyway.

thats_just_prime5535d ago

like $ony will care about a few thousand people and they will care even less when its only for a day for a company to notice a boycott you have to do a long term boycott and you have to stop a noticable % of their customers from buying anything

I_find_it_funny5535d ago

they are in no power to make a boycott for simple reason - nobody cares about their opinion
you have to matter to the company for your boyvott to be successful

TheDeadMetalhead5535d ago (Edited 5535d ago )

Oh no, a bunch of 14-year olds in Guy Fawkes masks that still think it's 2006! WHATEVER SHALL SONY DO?!

Heartnet5535d ago

Bet the hackers wont show themselves though lol

jessupj5535d ago

Why all the hate against Sony from gamers?

If you're going to hate anyone as a gamer, why not MS? They obviously don't care about gaming at all and they've almost completely turned their backs on the hardcore fanbase by going down the casual route. They nickle and dime as often as they can get away with it.

I guess MS "lets" hackers pirate games for free.

But I just don't get it. Sony's been so good to us gamers, unlike MS recently.

HappyGaming5535d ago

I wanted to buy an Xperia Arc this month... guess I will have to wait till the 16th.

Dee_915534d ago

hmm i was just thinking i needed a new tv
so the 16th seem like a good day to get a sony tv

pixelsword5534d ago

I might sign-up, but never show up.

When will these 'Anonymous' guys learn to stop?

Acquiescence5535d ago

When they get pelted with eggs?

SoundGamer5535d ago (Edited 5535d ago )

<sigh> Who knows?

It will be nice when this is all finally over. For both sides.

(if that date will ever come)

ziggurcat5535d ago

pelted with eggs... well, we know where they're going to be on april 16th, so... fire away!

Focker4205535d ago

In-store boycott?? Wow *points to pic above*

RedDragan5535d ago

I can't see this making an impact, what if they went to the stores the next day?

This protest does not sound like Anon anyway, from the little I admit I have heard about them, a boycott would last longer than one day.

Do we remember what happened with the one day boycott of petrol and diesel? Thats correct, the prices were double in price at the point that the boycott took place just 12 months later.

kneon5535d ago

Also the vast majority of consumers are either unaware, are on Sony's side or couldn't care less about Geohot. This is going to do nothing.

gamingdroid5535d ago

Gas prices are dependent on demand and supply (or more accurately by the corrupt OPEC that essentially holds a monopoly). It is in heavy use every day, no amount of protest will get you anywhere.

However, a protest in front or inside the store will certainly get the information on the news and potentially painting Sony's brand name as a negative one.

That's costly to change! Just ask MS after the justice department went after them. Their stock hasn't recovered over a decade now despite being one of the most profitable company in the world and just about every nerd in the world is still spewing hatred for MS.

The issue, Internet Explorer was FREE. How dare they offer me a free browser, how dare they!?

LOGICWINS5535d ago

@Alpha-Male- ROFL. Bubbles!

Nathaniel_Drake5535d ago

hehehe and that's a Sony headphone he's wearing

UnasFortuna5535d ago (Edited 5535d ago )

ROFL.... that is hilarious. On topic... I don't see this puny attempt doing much. I see no reason to boycott Sony. I applaude their efforts to keep their system secure from hackers (I just love how they think they should be called "DEVELOPERS"). True gamers have no room for hackers and it undermines the integrity of the gaming world. While I don't care what you do with your system that you paid for... if you are using that alteration for illegal or cheating means... you don't have that right no matter what you paid. Buying the actual technology itself doesn't give you permission to alter their software that is run on that system. You want to run your own software... fine... do that without the PSN or Sony's own code.

iDotDotDot5535d ago

I'm so tired of all this Anonymous news.

They need to move on so we can go back to talking about more important things.

Prototype5535d ago

Like the typical "my console is better than yours"

Sorry had to say it

TheDeadMetalhead5535d ago (Edited 5535d ago )

My console IS better than yours, boy. Even if my console is the same as your console, it's still better!

LightSamus5535d ago

George Takei works at Sony? XD

Anon19745535d ago

Well, at least this is a step in the right direction. If you don't like a company, don't support them. Much better then abusing customers that do support them and harassing employees who are just doing a job and their families.

Still, couldn't they stay at home and boycott Sony? Really - can you imagine what this will be like?

Mall Staff: "What are you guys doing here?"

Anon: "We're boycotting Sony!"

Mall Staff: "Ok. No sure why you're doing it here. Umm, why're boycotting Sony?"

Anon: "Because they've taking a hacker to court!"

Mall Staff: "Please leave before we call the police."

Anon: "We're legion!"

Mall Staff: "Yeah, you're pepper sprayed is what you are. Morons."

lee_ten5535d ago

oh man, these guys are hilarious. i'm sure sony is having a field day with these so-called threats.

Shadow Flare5535d ago

Last week:

Anonanus: "the worst is to come"

Today:

Anonanus: "we're boycotting Sony products"

Sony: (see alphamale's pic)

That's just ridiculous lol. It's like the most pathetic terrorist organisation ever. It's almost like a terrorist group comprised solely of nerds who live in their mothers basement. Oh wait...

Nerd: "we're going to bring Sony to their knees!!!"
Man: "how"
Nerd: "we're going to boycott them!!!"
Man: (knocks his glasses off)

You know I suppose technically this boycotting is worse then the 15 minute takedown of Sony.com. It was hard to tell if they attacked at all last time it was so quick. Even Sony said they were looking into the "possible attack" because they weren't sure it happened themselves

thekiddfran5535d ago

@ alpha-male. haha brilliant gif, would give you bubble but can't see how you could get more!!!!;)

TrashyNewz5535d ago

they SHOULD RENAME THEMSELVES ANALOPS. THIS GUY THINKS ITS FUNNY

TheMrMadzen5535d ago (Edited 5535d ago )

MagicAccent5534d ago

When they hire Mr. Sulu to laugh at the boycott, you know Sony doesn't give a shit.

Godmars2905535d ago (Edited 5535d ago )

How do these people not understand that what they're fighting for is the right to steal from Sony? That at this point, instead of stoking his ego, they should be talking to Geohot to work some kind of plea-bargain? At this point Sony my as well close down the PS division if they give into crap like this.

And what are these people going to do this time? Picket Sony stores and stores selling Sony product? Stage sit-ins at Sony isles? Attack people buying Sony stuff or destroying displays? I'm certain if any of that happens Anonymous will only look good.

-Alpha5535d ago (Edited 5535d ago )

"How do these people not understand that what they're fighting for is the right to steal from Sony?"

I'd like to know their thoughts on that too. Right now they seem to maintain that Sony is limiting consumer rights to modify content, but I haven't heard their stance on Geo stealing code

I think they are trying to make their point heard without hurting consumers, since that is who they claim to be fighting for. When they end up doing stunts that hurt consumers it backfires on them, so they have to scale back to stunts like these that don't really seem to do anything effective.

Their tactic seems to be to annoy Sony, threaten them, then make demands for them to give in. Sounds more like hot air than anything else, I question if they have any plan to do something significantly damaging to Sony.

Godmars2905535d ago (Edited 5535d ago )

Except at no time have they nor can they present evidence that they're, "The Good Guys." It was Geohot's public boasting of a pirating exploit - and something which could only be used as a pirating exploit - that got OtherOS removed in the first place. Someone else came up with the other, yet he willingly shoved himself into the limelight just for the attention. That's who Anonymous is trying to defend, to the point they've threatened Sony employees, their families, the Judge and lawyers involved with the case as well as inconvenienced anyone using the PSN network. There is nothing "good" about any of that.

And I really can't see anyone who can't see the difference in that. I stand that the removal of OtherOS was done badly, but everything done in response to that has been worse. Especially the pointless escalation.

Parapraxis5535d ago

I will go out on a limb and assume a lot of these kids are from 4chan or spent some time there.
It's a very anti-Sony place.

At one time even saying you owned a PS3 was enough to have dozens of people rip on you.

These kids are clueless, mis-informed and barking up the wrong tree.
It's pathetic.

-Alpha5535d ago (Edited 5535d ago )

Sorry, I deleted that part of the comment, Godmars.

And I know that they may not have presented evidence to show they are the good guys, but I was saying that that is what they see themselves as.

They see themselves as defenders of consumer rights, freedoms, and free speech. In order to maintain that image, they have to have some sort of limit to their actions.

They are ultimately unpredictable though. One minute they consider PSN users collateral damage, the next they decide that they don't want to involve us.

So long as they have a sense of righteousness they will attempt to act out. How passionate they are will determine what exactly they will do, but right now it seems like they aren't doing much.

NewMonday5535d ago

I stopped thinking of them as the original anonymous when they demanded the ability to hack the PS3, the firs Anon were selfless and acted for a bigger cause, this is just some PS3 hackers copying Anon.

Peaceful_Jelly5535d ago

Oh @Godmars290, you're still preaching that lie?

Sony: "SCEA needed to promote and sell games to make their money back on the loss-leading PS3 consoles (and there was no profit in users utilizing the computer functions of the PS3); IBM wanted to sell its expensive servers utilizing the Cell processor (users could cluster PS3s for the same purposes much less expensively."

"When the 'Other OS' feature is enabled, the software prevents the proper operation of the gaming feature to avoid allowing the features to interplay. In order for a hacker to pirate a game, it is necessary to perfectly emulate the operating system for which the game is designed, including the API, which is the interface for the game OS that supports all of the features of a game."

http://ps3.ign.com/articles...

*** My explanation: Even if the otherOS was hacked to enable full use of the GPU you can't play PS3 games on it without its main Api's. Geohot was trying to make the PS3 the ultimate homebrew machine and the best thing was that this would be the only console with homebrew that wouldn't allow piracy of (PS3) games or game hacking (see COD:MW). But then people could buy PS3's to use them as cheap computers instead of buying games and stuff. *Now give me disagrees and take my bubbles for writing the truth and not what you wanted to hear. =/

Bear_Grylls5535d ago

@Peaceful_Jelly

Just because you believe it buddy doesn't make it true.

If they start harassing customers the shop owners can have them arrested. So no biggie

Treyb3yond5534d ago

Sony stores are mostly franchises anyway. Anon have clearly showed themselves up with a serious lack of life experience with this one.

Nothing will change.

Kran5535d ago

Anonymous needs to grow up and get on with their lives.

ALL THIS JUST SO ONE GUY CAN HACK THE PS3 FREELY. It's pathetic!

Anonymous needs to grow up and actually get a life.

MintBerryCrunch5535d ago

you talk as tho anon is a person...lol

its a bunch of loosely connected people who do this to garner the most attention

BlueEye5535d ago

Who.The.Fuck.CARES!? 1 person or not Anonymous is a bunch of retards who are fighting a losing battle with very stupid tactics and are too thick headed to get this fact into their heads!

Kran5535d ago

Yeah I know they're more than 1 person. I meant lives*

MintBerryCrunch5535d ago

lol, who cares?

every other article on this site is about Anon and with that 200+ comments about how they are the SCOURGE, it happened with the hackers, now with them...thats how it goes with this site...its a cycle really

i can understand being angry, but i havent seen many productive conversations without someone just writing up some crazy comment

"'Gamers' Plan Boycott of Anonymous's Sony Boycott on April 16"

Ill set up the facebook page and send out the RSVP's, lets show these fucks we dont want nor need them fucking up our gaming industry

Focker4205535d ago

How do you boycott a boycott?? You should rally up a bunch of thugs and get them to patrol the Sony stores wearing 'I Kill Hackers' t-shirts, and see how long Anon sticks around.

Bear_Grylls5535d ago

Violence is always the answer when dealing with dumb people.

Warprincess1165535d ago

Some people have too much free time on their hands. It really sad that they gone to sit in a store for hours to protest something stupid. Someone should go down there and post pics of these losers.

Looks like PlayStation took a hit with Marathon and is now quietly adjusting prices worldwide to recover the losses

andy8538d ago

Lets be honest raising prices doesn't do that when no one's buying it. I imagine the profit it greater selling 10 times more at a lower price

Pergele38d ago

Whatever you say buddy, let's all wear the tinfoil hats.

IceKoldKilla38d ago (Edited 38d ago )

LMFAO Your comment alone says a lot more about you than anything else. When has one game not selling 10 million copies made a company raise the prices of their console? Then Xbox would be costing $5000 by now lol. You remind of the crazy drug addicts on the street rambling on about conspiracies. xD You sure you don't need a hug, buddy?

ChunkyMonk37d ago

One game that Sony payed $200 million for. lol
Also, you sure were quick to get triggered. Maybe your the one who needs a hug?

If nothing else, we should be united against the real issue here. AI and unnecessary tariffs that are effecting all gamers.

+ Show (1) more replyLast reply 37d ago
Athlon10138d ago (Edited 38d ago )

The price increases are due to the RAM demand associated with AI and the US-Iran war. You can look to any business news website and local news to see that. Heck, even the 2026 Asus Zenbook Duo I've been eyeing has faced delays and has had a price increase of $400; that laptop has two specs. Asus is doing a staggered release with per-orders for the lower spec now and shipping in May and pre-orders for the higher spec that I'm eyeing starting in June. Basically, all computer manufactures are affected. It'll most likely start affecting smart phones too if it hasn't already. I can't remember the last time any major console maker (Nintendo, Sony, Sega, etc) increased the price of their console mid cycle outside of Microsoft just to make more profit.

S2Killinit37d ago

Its not the war. Its the RAM issue.

jznrpg37d ago

War is causing gas prices to rise. Transport of everything requires gas so the prices of those items go up as well. So it does have an impact

Athlon10137d ago (Edited 37d ago )

The blockage of the Straight of Hormuz due to the US-Iran war has affected raw components used in semi-conductor manufacturing such as bromine, aluminum, and helium. Iran had attacked the liquified natural gas (LNG) plant in Qatar which is a large producer (1/3 globally) of helium which is used in semiconductor etching. So it's the both the war and the RAM crises.

badz14938d ago

Oh no...should I get the Pro now before the price increase?

I dont think that'll ever happen. But i must say back in the day, they were definitely trying because they were more cash rich than their competitors.

CosmicTurtle51d ago

I think MS were and still are the richer company. They tried to acquire Sega back in the day (and considered doing so again more recently), they obviously bought exclusivity to Halo which was originally shown as a Mac title. I don’t think as a company MS can claim the moral high ground here. It’s a wilful lack of self awareness.

Of course Sony would try exactly the same if they had the resources, but when the PS2 dominated the industry was in a much healthier place with an abundance of great third parties.

This has been a depressing generation as far as first party decisions are concerned. The fact we are debating business plans rather than which game is better is a sad reflection of the state of things.

Darkseeker51d ago (Edited 51d ago )

There was Nintendo as well, Sony wouldn't have had a monopoly. In fact, the world would be better today if Xbox never existed in the first place. They pretty much brought all bad practices we have today. We might have gotten all of it either way, but not this early. In term of franchises, I don't think there is anything Microsoft released that would actually be missed if it didn't exist. Even Halo the world wouldn't notice if Halo didn't exist.

S2Killinit51d ago

MS was definitely a bad influence on gaming.

raWfodog51d ago

I think almost everyone will agree that a monopoly is not good for the industry. But that being said, the competition needs to be smart and strategic with their business. Simply buying up publishers and traditional third-party studios just to keep them out of the other companies reach is not a sustainable practice. That goes for all parties so don't think I'm just referring to Xbox.

I'm no business guru by any stretch of the imagination but I firmly believe that the best way to drive consumers to your software and hardware is to invest smart in your first-party studios. Give them full support and guidance in making unique, fun games that are only available to play in your ecosystem and the gamers will come.

Reaper22_51d ago (Edited 51d ago )

But first party studios aren't enough. They only make up a small portion of the industry. Without 3rd party there would be no industry for Microsoft or sony.Developing games take time and money and sometimes you gotta make moves to stay competitive.

raWfodog51d ago

Nah, I never said first-party was enough. I said it’s the ‘best way’ to drive gamers to your platform. 3rd-party is a free-for-all and there’s no guarantee that gamers will use your hardware to play the game. If you want to push your own software and/or hardware you need first-party, or at least exclusive deals with third-party studios.

SimpleDad51d ago

They Shure did a great job... 25 years later Xbox is dead.

Reaper22_51d ago

Then why be so emotional and continue to talk about it. Xbox will never die be ause it stays in so many people's head.

lodossrage51d ago

How can you even see him being "emotional" in that comment?

If anything, you're the emotional one, constantly trying to go at anyone that says anything against Microsoft. So when you call him emotional, it comes off as deflection
