Why Does Team ICO Take So Long?

Ever wonder why it seems like Team ICO takes forever to release their games? Here's why...

Wow considering COD has like 325 staff members, that's crazy.

RedDead5501d ago

35 though haha, very talented people, it wouldn't harm them to bring in a few more though no?

malamdra5501d ago

Ico was their first game so there's no way to know how lon it took, Shadow of the Colossus was released after an standard time for a full game after the Ico

so The Last Guardian is the only one that they have taken long to make

besides with Resistance 3, Uncharted 3 and Twisted Metal there's no rush to release it fast, it would be nice if it came out this year but it's not really imperative

rockleex5501d ago

Development for Ico started in 1997 for the PS1, it released in 2001 as a PS2 game.

Sashamaz5501d ago

It goes with the hardware, current gen consoles take longer to produce for than older gen consoles therefore to maintain the development speeds they had on ps2 they neen more man power the time they took to release a game on ps2 was quite long back then as well but I personally do mind. I seem to value game that have been in development for long higher than most(not all the time though.

gaffyh5500d ago

Yeah according to Giantbomb, the company was formed in 1997 and Ico came out in 2001 so it took at least 4 years.

Really don't care just as long their games turns out great(and they usually do) they can take as much time as they want.

Besides most of thr gamers out there are too stuck up to even give Team Ico games a shot.

I can not wait for TLG.

Dart895501d ago

Because they're games are masterpiece.

vishant1015501d ago

yeh perfection takes time thats why ico and zelda games have such long development times

Optical_Matrix5501d ago

And yet they produce work that's above and beyond what 150+ teams manage to put out.

Brings very much truth to the old statement "Quality over Quantity".
Some devs these days should really reconsider their strategy. They aren't doing things that will people have remember their names, they're doing everything to be as forgettable as a mayfly.
But I guess it has always been this way, it's not just devs 'these days' ...

Emilio_Estevez5501d ago

Devs take note. More care and valuable staff, less rushing and hoards of not so good staff.

kesvalk5501d ago

they will start taking notes when their crap stop selling shitloads of copies...

DrFUD5501d ago

Your comment has nothing to do with the developers.
Find me another developer that has a publisher like Sony is with ICO.
It must be nice not having to worry about time or money when making a game.

rockleex5501d ago (Edited 5501d ago )

Which is why more Japanese devs need to start going to Sony.

Or Sony should start finding more Japanese devs.

Seriously, if only Sony had as many Japanese titles/studios as they do Western ones. >_<

Think of all the AAA JRPG's and the diversity!

Please release the ICO games on PC...

Inverno458d ago

I would love the remasters and Last Guardian on PC. Insta buy if I could get em on GOG. Just knowing I would have access to these games without them being tied to an aging console I'd buy em up again in a heartbeat.

Profchaos458d ago

At this point I don't think they are coming pcsx2 or rpcs3 is your only hope

SimpleDad458d ago

Thank You Shu... please ICO on modern platforms, please!

Good-Smurf457d ago

Stop port begging he isn't with PlayStation anymore.

SimpleDad458d ago

Thank You Shu so much for the Last Guardian. Please ICO on modern platforms!

Redemption-64458d ago

I absolutely love this game and it breaks my heart it sold poorly

LG_Fox_Brazil458d ago

This game made a huge impact on me, the friendship beetween the boy and Trico reminded me of my old stubborn dog that was my friend when I was a kid.

The first game that ever made me cry, I love it

I've played 15, and I wouldn't consider any of those underrated TBH. Some of them are pretty high rated.

banger88870d ago

That's amazing, Gamingbolt actually put all 15 games on the same page.

shinoff2183869d ago

I. Not seeing anything on that list underrated. I never played concrete genie, the ASTRO vr,and one other but I forgot the name already. Nothing on there was underrated at all imo.

persona4chie869d ago

There’s only 4 of those games I never played, and no most of those aren’t underrated.
