Microsoft Provides Update on Mass Effect

I have a PS3 but at this point considering the sh*t job they have been doing with ports and what not I will be unsure even is Mass Effect eventually comes on PS3.

Plus Bioware is one of the finest RPG companies. I can't even imagine what EA will do to them. We all know innovation died at EA along time ago and I have a feeling they will have Bioware pumping games out so fast, we will learn a new meaning for crap games.

It would indeed be a terrible thing if they would ruin the game for PS3 owners by making a sloppy port.
If they are to port it for the PS3, I hope they follow Bethesdas example with Oblivion.

I think it would be a good thing to port it, if it was on the PS3 there's a good chance the japanese audience would show a bigger interest in western rpg's.

In addition to causing wide dispearsed distress among movie watchers having to choose between HD-DVD and Bluray version of movies, xbots and Microsoft have interfered with the gaming industry as whole.

And this is a sad fact that no one has really grounded into the mind of this generations gamers, xbots excluded because they'll never see beyond the smoke & mirrors, always mouth hanging agape, drooling with glazed eyes staring blankly at the wonderful smoke & mirrors fogging up reality that they cannot see or refuse to see in order to protect their egos for buying the wrong system.

Unable to realize that every bad thing they attribute to the PS3 is actually a characteristic of their OWN SYSTEM.

No games? A PS3 plus a PC version of Halo or Gears or Bioshock is already an xbox360 without any strings attatched. Then it must be true that the XBOX360 has no games too. But the PS3 has movies and PS3, PS2, PS1, and PSN titles to cushion itself. Can't say the same for the xbox360, can you. In addition, we don't need to worry about having to play online all the time to make use of the internet fees. IT'S FREE FOR US.

Expensive? Because xbots will want hi-def movies, wouldn't they need a bluray player (most likely a PS3 if they like gaming too) and / or a HD-DVD add-on(no movies and poor video quality)? How about the cost of the internet fees by the end of this generation that's roughly equal to the cost of a PS3 ITSELF...!!! This is amazing math, ladies and gentlemen. XBOTS haven't figured it out yet. They're still baffled or still trying to protect their egos from failing Alegebra - twice - becaues they were too busy playing games to prepare for their future in the work world.

But nevertheless, back to the story, read on to see why Microsoft and xbots have not only interfered with this generation's movie arena, they've also tinkered with the graphical potential of this generation as well:

1) XBOX360 CAUSING A TRAFFIC JAM -- AGAIN:
Everybody, let's thank the xbox360 for capping off this generations graphics potential AGAIN.

Microsoft had to have Assasin's Creed in it's lineup AND COD4. Now, developers are going to develop the game up to the potential of the 8 gig and PC processors of the xbox360 and then force feed it to us PS3 owners. We're all facing you and applauding you 360 owners. THANKS, man.

2) HD-DVD XBOX360 GAMING -- HOW PS3 OWNERS FEEL RIGHT NOW:
Now imagine this. Microsoft released a HD-DVD drive that allows the xbox 360 to play HD-DVD games rather than just watching movies. Now get this. Because the number of people who own the HD-DVD add-on for gaming is initially going to be smaller compared to those who own the current DVD only console, most developers will only want to focus on making games for the DVD version. Imagine if you bought the HD-DVD drive and found out that MASS EFFECT for the HD-DVD version will be identical to the DVD version because more xbox360 owners at the moment have the DVD only console rather than the HD-DVD enabled console.

You'd be pissed. And that's how we feel with every multiport that involves you guys. If you can't hang on the fast lane, we suggest you get off the freeway or join the Nintendo Wii in the slow lane. You're blocking our way. GET OFF THE FAST LANE, YOU HUNK OF JUNK...!!!

3) DISC SPACE IS ONLY HALF THE ISSUE:
Disc space isn't the xbox360's only shortcomming. Imagine adding HD-DVD and Bluray gaming to the Sega Genesis, N64, or the Wii. Because their architecture is inferior, no matter how large the storage capacity, you'll never get a good looking game as Grand Turismo 5 or subperb AI with over hundreds of enemeis onscreen like Heavenly Sword or Resistance Fall of Man where there are hundreds of thousands of billions of particles and enemies exploding and moving all at once on one screenshot.

READ THIS XBOTS AND SEE IF YOU CAN ARGUE AGAINST IT:
For instance, xbots always claim that adding mutliple discs will solve the graphics problem. Would adding 100 to 1000 multiple discs to the original Playstation One or the Nintendo Wii compensate for the graphics problem and make ports of Grand Turismo5 or Heavenly Sword or Gears of War or Halo3 (whatever) or Motorstorm or Virtual Fighter 5 look identical to the PS3 versions on those inferior hardwares? You understand?

Same goes for adding extra storage to the xbox360. It's lack of Cell processing and the unique relationship between the Cell and system architecture will always result in developers using Fog and Mirrors or artwork (artstyle) to fool certain groups of gamers into believing that that's raw power they're seeing.

Has anyone seen breakthrough graphics on the xbox360 yet like Grand Turismo 5, Killzone 2, Heveanly Sword, Motorstorm, and Ratchet & Clank (took developers only one year to make) in it's 3 to 4 years of existence? The above PS3 game are all mainly first gen titles. Can the xbox360 explain itself for the last 3 to 4 years? Or is Mass Effect, Gears, HALO3, and Project Gotham Racer 4 or Ninja Gaiden 2 supposed to be the breakthrough over the past 3 to 4 years of old age because reviewers said so.

Fake reviews won't cut it anymore. Opinions can be bought and changed over time. Excuse me sir, do you prefer Coke or Pepsi. "Well, they both seem the same to me, and I honestly can't tell the difference, but since Pepsi provided me my most recent paycheck, it's clear that Pepsi tastes better." Also, I doubt that American reviewers (EGM, GAMEPRO, 1UP, IGN, GAMEPSOT, and so on) cannot have a bias in favor toward an American console. I think Motorstorm and Grand Turismo 5 do look better than Project Gotham Racer 4, not matter the perfect 10 from xbox magazine. And Motorstorm is more fun.

I want to know the truth. It's hard to find the truth in the Olympics if an American Olympian is getting all perfect scores because all the nine judges on the panel are from America. That's why we try to shake things up and put judges from other backgrounds in the panel. Not so in video game magazines, is there?

How would you feel if you went to a court trial and knew 100% that you won't get a fair hearing because the judge and the defendant are uncle and nephew. Let's keep the race fair.

Don't believe about smoke & mirrors? Fact - all games considered good looking in the xbox360 lineup are dark. Ugly girls wear tons and tons of makeup and want to make love with the lights turned off or dimmed down to make themselves look more appealing. Shine a bright light on them, and you'll see that Gears of War or Mass Effect have always been HALO3 after all.

mass effect 1 will go down as the greatest rpg ever.
followed by sucky ass mass 2 and 3 ... EA is incharge of it, so its a guarantee that there gonna suck. i wouldnt be suprised if they started releasing the game every year. calling it masseffect 2008,2009,2010,2011...

You have a really good point. When I first heard the news I was ecstatic. I would love to get ANY Mass Effect on PS3. I love Bioware and every game they release. But since it is EA we are talking about, you are probably right. I hope you're wrong though, for the sake of all of us that love great RPG's.

It is EA that just bought them, and I know I'm not alone is thinking EA has really gone downhill when it comes to doing something different from year to year...Anyone who's played Madden over 10 years will know what I mean. At least Mass Effect will be great I think, but I'd really have to reconsider any sequels under EA's development now...Good way to ruin a new franchise.

Maybe you've been absent on gaming news for the past few months, but PS3'ers actually have more exclusive games to look forward to in these next few months than any of us that only own a 360.

But everyone has always agreed that Mass Effect was one of the powerhouses for the 360... if it's no longer exclusive, there's a lot less to look forward to when it comes to exclusives.

This is one game i've always been jealous about. I've admitted this many times before and was considering buying a 360 just for it. I love BioWare games and fully comprehend the great games that they make.

Why would we not celebrate at the chance of getting this trilogy on the PS3? You know as well as I do that it will be amazing. Now we both get to enjoy it on our respective consoles.

only the stupidest of fanboys would think that EA would keep Mass effect on the 360 lol. Knowing Ea Mass effect will get a downgrade but it'll end up on the ps3, by mid to late 08. Think about it these dudes have shelled out more than half a bill for these two comapanies, they're gonna wanna see a healthy return on all their new digital children. i feel sorry for some of the 360 posters on joystiq. It's like they're trying to convince themselves Microsoft own the publishing rights even though they've just said themselves they don't.

Even though lemmings annoy the bejesus out of me i don't like the sound of things like this. EA make me think of those souless hollywood film production companies, that churn out mounds of crud over and over. How many dumb action flicks come out every summer, how many times have they milked trends to death? Troy, Alexander, kingdom of heaven? now its Saw,Hostel, Captivity and a billion over tiresome films.

I dont think they'll deeply change the core foundations of bioware now, but i can see something sinister and depressing happening in the future.

to sony fanboys out there, this is kind of a slap in the face to you aswell unless bioware's secret ps3 exclusive was being published by sony (which i doubt) it'll probably go the way of all EA games.

...Mass Effect will therefore become a timed exclusive on the 360 with it being released on the PS3 sometime next year. However, given that its a trilogy the real concern for 360 owners should be is which will the lead platform be for Mass Effect 2 and 3?

This is great news for gamers but not for those who purchased the 360 primarily for this game.

Well Microsoft jumped into gaming pretty late and with only their second console has grasped the hardcore gamer. They are doing alright now and are destined to take the #1 spot its Microsoft you know they will win. Im very glad with the experienced I have gotten from their consoles.

see if i were microsoft right about now i'd start buying the f*** out of the gaming industry.

for some reason or other Sony have managed to keep certain titles exclusive for now without doing the whole take-over thing or even having to publish the games themselves; Metal gear solid, Final fantasy XIII and Final Fantasy XIIIversus, uncharted, ratchet

Btw the Latter (final fantasy Versus XIII) contrary to what a lot of stupid online journos are claiming is not a bloody spin off(the devs have repeatedly stated it's a wholly independant game), it's just as big of a game as XIII, hell considering what nomura and hashimoto are trying to do with it, it could be even bigger.

That's two juggernaut FF's that'll bury the 360 in japan, and will probably do a lot of damage to the wii, whose lead against the ps3 has been slipping. i think it's 2 to 1 now. a while back it was 6 to 1.

the idea of: FFXIII(reconfirmed 08 by squeenix at TGS), Metal gear solid 4/Metal gear online, Little big Planet, GTA IV, Killzone 2, Gran turismo 5, Heavy Rain, White knight story,
all coming out in the same year is pretty overwhelming. the fact that most of these titles are ps3 exclusives will make next year pretty interesting. EDIT. i forgot to mention lol then there's the possibility of Mass effect being added to that list.
Alan wake and uninfinite discovery are the last great 360 exclusives.

Bungie is independent. The PGR team (Bizarre Creations) is moving on. MS failed to secure Bioware.

What's next? Rare and Lionhead?

Perhaps MS thinks that Sony will collapse, and therefore will get the exclusives by default. Or, perhaps MS is tired of losing money in this console war and is giving up.

I'm not sure of what to think.

This is going to depend on the stipulations of the contract with Bioware. If they agreed for Mass Effect to be exclusive to the 360, then I wouldn't expect a PS3 version. Even EA can't break a deal already in place. I don't know about the sequels. I wouldn't expect the other two games in the series to be any good now that EA owns them.

Well obviously they are now owned by EA so of course theres a possibility this could change, but for now ME is 360 exclusive, if micro is unable to secure the trilogy exclusively you can bet your ass this game will eventually be on the ps3 because everybody with eyes and a brain can see its a quality game and EA will definitely want to "cash in". Now even if micro wasn't publishing the 1st game, theres nothing in the works for ps3 right now so it would still be a long time before Bio would release it on ps3, games released that late usually dont have much impact for that particular console, so really if there is any REAL impact for the ps3 it will be if EA/Bioware decide to make ME 2 and 3 multiplats that hit along side the 360's release in the next 2 yrs, that would be a great bonus to ps3's future library for what is inevitably going to be a AAA franchise. I think micro will likely make a deal but until we hear further word about ME's future plans from EA, Bioware, or micro nobody knows if the trilogy will remain exclusive or not, saying otherwise might just leave you with that bad taste in your mouth, AGAIN=

I would love for this game to appear on ps3 but right now it seems unlikely, but then again its EA. They might bring a watered down version of it to ps3 so that 360 owners get the "true" experience for it and at the same time EA cashes in big time.

For sony its a win-or no difference situation. While for Microsoft it could potentially become a major blow.

gamerscore's article says MS owns mass effect(this contradicts the Joystiq). EA will want as many mass effects in people's homes as possible. They'll think of a way to make money out of the ps3's userbase which is set to rise rapidly in 08. I'm thinking eventually parts of the ME1 experience will come with PS3' version of me2 you think they'd just ignore all that cash? Resi 5 is multiplat for a reason, so is GTA IV. It wiLL go multiplat

This is one of the biggest bits of news this gen so far. The western final fantasy makers are now owned by EA ugh.

I'm getting very mixed signals here. He wouldnt need to say "we can't predict the future" if the trilogies' exclusiveness was guranteed to stay on the 360. I mean the idea of only ME2 And ME3 going to the ps3 is pretty unthinkable unless the first goes as well. The fact that he isn't shooting this ambiguity down straight away leaves it pretty open. EA have shelled out more than half a billion for pandemic and bioware, microsoft are gonna have to start whipping out some serious cash.

for sure the future of the trilogy just might end up being multiplat, but with micro already having a deal for publishing rights in place, EA cant simply break an existing contract, like with any other contract when a company is bought out the new owners have to honor existing arrangements, which is why ME2 & 3 will likely be multiplat since micro doesnt have a pre existing deal to publish those games, and I would think the publishing rights for the first one would belong to micro for at least a few years and they wouldn't sell those rights anytime soon just to keep the 1st ME exclusive to 360 for awhile. Of course Bio cant say for sure what the future will be because it depends on different factors, same as Konami who is at times even less clear about MGS4, they are on record saying the are considering their options, and they have said many times the whole "we have no plans for now to bring MGS4 to other platforms", and they haven't even been brought out by an outside source because any smart company will always keep their options open until somebody makes a deal, these company are here to make $$$, no $$$ upfront, no exclusive=

EA just pulled a microsoft and basically bought all the rights to mass effect. EA is the most money hungry Studio out there. They obviously bought bioware with one intention on there minds and that to make money. They knew mass effect was going to be a big hit so they, bought the studio with the intentions to make money out of this game. The same way the bought the nfl license to make madden nfl is the same way they bought bioware for mass effect. there know where the money is at. And we all know that EA does not make exclusive at all. SO unless Microsoft Dished out some serious cash, expect mass effect to be a timed exclusive for the x box 360.

MASS effect coming soon to Playstation 3.

Too much of a big deal is made of this game (MassEffect). Everyone is making it sound like as if Nintendo is loosing exclusivity to Mario and Zelda and they will now appear on the PS3. That would be news,, that would be a deal breaker.

Someone mentioned earlier....EA + Mass Effect = Mass Defect. Maybe that's what the focus should be on.........OR...

Let's see Peter Moore leave MS for EA...

EA acquires BioWare...

... I predict that EA will eventually make consoles to compete against Sony and MS, why the heck not, they have Madden which alone will sell tons of units...

That will of course be the end of the console as we know it.

The game was built from the ground up on the 360 so I see the 360 continuing to be the lead platform for the whole trilogy and ME 2 probably wont be out for a couple years at least.

No, Microsoft has publishing rights for Mass Effect on the 360. That doesn't preclude Bioware from putting the game on any other platform. Now that they are with EA there's nothing to stop EA from publishing the game for the PC and PS3.

I for one will be very very surprised if EA is OK with the game staying on one platform.

Don't blaim just EA, Bioware obviously agreed a purchase price and it's stockholders will have made a whole stack full of cash in the sale.

Also no-one has mentioned much about the Pandemic titles - Star Wars Battlefront is one of the more popular ones. Hopefully the quality of games like this won't be compromised by the EA yearly update mass production line.

I wouldn't be surprised if a version of Mass Effect for the PS3 is announced for next year either. Im not as excited about this game as I was at first because it looks kind of boring now. But I am still going to give it a rental and see.

ps3 wont get mass effect.....its published and payed for by microsoft..i repeat there well be no mass effect for the ps3...in all likelyhood,the mass effect trilogy well remain exclusive for the 360 as well...ea has clearly stated that there losing money spending time porting games to the ps3 as well as the development costs and blue ray disc costs..plus peter moore is essentially making the big decisions at ea,and microsoft and peter are essentially married..i may be a bit biased as i think the ps3 is utter crap,but even so, its fairly obvious that mass effect wont be coming out for the ps3...

Microsoft will pay a lot to secure this game with it's two follow ups in games for the 360, be pretty sure about that.

EA buying Bioware. I must say that's pretty close of giving baby Jezus to the Devil and say take care of it...

every thing they get there hands on ends up eventully being crap, thank god mass effect is pretty much done before this happened. mass effect 2/3 are probaly gonna suck and that makes me both sad and angry.

Because it would take a while to port it, but with EA, i guess you can never be certain. The chances of it`s sequel appearing on a Play Station platform has definitely increased now, as EA don`t make exclusives. If Bioware owned the right to Mass Effect, EA does now.

What`s bad about EA buying Bioware is that they were going to make a specific PS3 games as well, if my memory serves me correctly.

Under EA they won`t get the time they need to optimize the games for each platform, especially if they have to make games for both consoles now, so i see this is a bad thing for both sides. Hope for once a decent port could be made for the PS3 by EA, but i wouldn`t count on it

EA has enough resources to put together a separate team from scratch just to port this game as long as there's money to be made. Look at what they did for the Orange Box. The Orange Box would be an MS exclusive if EA did not get involved. It'll probably be a quick and dirty job instead of a labor of love, but it will get done.

MS just lost itself an exclusive unless it can work out a deal with EA. Having Peter Moore over there may have its advantages. But the bigger a hit Mass Effect turns out to be, the more expensive it's going to be for MS to keep it exclusive.
