And gamers continue to suffer. Thanks, Anonymous, really. Thanks a million.

showtimefolks5523d ago

in a new orleans JAIL and than talk to be about hacking

idiots and whoever says anything positive about them is not a gamers end of the they can steal you info from psn/xblive and yet some find positive things to say about hackers

if geohot was so damn right why did he run away?

MaxXAttaxX5523d ago

They're only causing some minor annoyances for Sony and the only ones that are truly being affected are gamers; the people they think they stand for.

Electroshocked5523d ago

Hey Sony, I have a solution. Get Kevin Butler to dismember the hands of a random hacker, just as an example.

nveenio5522d ago

These are the stupidest "attacks" I've ever seen. It's similar to having some terrorists "attack" the US by sending 100 people into Starbucks at the same time.

What a joke.

buckley5522d ago

If GeoHot was really "running away," he wouldn't have done it publicly and actually stated on his blog exactly where he was. He's got his lawyers and is fighting a legal battle, didn't "run" anywhere.

gamingdroid5522d ago

"They're only causing some minor annoyances for Sony and the only ones that are truly being affected are gamers; the people they think they stand for."

Anonymous aren't just standing for gamers, they are standing for consumers in general in this case. What Sony did has implication far reaching beyond just your unimportant console.

If the console disappeared, PC will take over the slack.

If what Sony did became the norm, expect advertised features to removed on corporate whim. Because Sony hasn't been malicious, doesn't mean other corporations aren't.

evrfighter5522d ago

show me a gamer who's suffering and I will show you a healthy individual.

here's an idea. Now just hear me out. PSN is free and all. Well at least to the non-idiots who didn't buy into psn+

If PSN isn't up to par and it's Sony's job to maintain it. Perhaps you need to b*tch and complain to them. If that doesn't work well I hear PC gaming doesn't rely on one company to play online.

In war there is always collateral damage.

despair5523d ago

war? really? people talk about war and this like its a noble cause. Then spout nonsense like you did here and feel its profound or means something.

You know what I see, a bunch of jackasses who are upset because the company they are ripping off is trying to fight back, so they maliciously attack portions of that company that in turn affect millions who had nothing to do with the situation.

Thats not "war" or 'collateral damage", thats assholes who don't give a shit about anyone but themselves and feel they have the right to do what they want with no care who or what it affects.

nix5523d ago

war???? are you freaking out of your mind?!

Vaud-Villian5522d ago

The internet started by hacking the phone line to send data.

You all think hacking = piracy which it does not. Hacking = free use of owned products against the uneccessary limitations of an opressive operating system.

You all must absolutely loathe the origional TRON movie with its hacking of the MCP to free the system.

shoddy5523d ago

nothing wrong with my psn.

ChristianGamer5523d ago (Edited 5523d ago )

I thought you guys said Anonymous was powerless...? I dunno, seems to me they may have some power after all.
Maybe SONY aren't as invincible as you might all like to believe
People like NathanExplosion are deluding themselves thinking this is just an annoyance to SONY, I mean business has been disrupted and consumers are getting cheesed off here. You all walk around saying just how much SONY loves you and yet when this happens you pretend they are having a blast and don't care that their fan base is affected

PirateThom5523d ago

I don't care if this is an annoyance or a major issue to Sony, it's an annoyance to me. When something annoys me I target my annoyance at the cause. Hey, guess what!? It's not Sony causing the annoyance here, so why would I direct anything at Sony instead of the cause of it?

Anonymous claim to be fighting for us, but I never asked them to and would ask them to stop messing around so I can get online.

shoddy5523d ago

but I bet Sony can woop these hackers ass.

I don't give a sh1t about this fight but
damn my psn credit card and online play involve

so fuk you useless hackers for society.
I feel sorry for your mother.

Bodster5523d ago

A DDOS attack ain't exactly a difficult thing to pull off. You get a delusional guy, Anonymous. You post everywhere to PING so and so address through cmd and some idiots will actually do it, thinking that they are all cool bringing down a site.

Like others have said, the only people this affects are the gamers and so was a complete waste of time...

The issue at hand is that Ps3 fans are definitely divided over this issue.

Some want hacker heads to roll and have their pitchforks at the ready.
Some believe that the deliberate and directed DOS attack is a non-event and Sony will squash it without blinking an eyelid.

The fact that there is such an extreme range of responses from Sony fans really shows us that anonymous achieved their objective in bringing attention to the matter of the court case involving Geohotz.
If Geohotz is an attention whore, then he certainly achieved his objective, thanks to the strong and directed reactions in this community!
People that weren't paying attention before, are now definitely paying attention.

Outside of N4g, there unarguably exists a very large and demonstrably powerful community that does not agree with the way Sony has handled the Geohotz court case.

This outside community has sought to disrupt Sony and its consumer base sufficiently to bring worldwide attention to the matter, even at the expense of the PSN gamers and otherwise uninvolved customers.

What gets me is that people are complaining about having their right to 'game' disrupted, but did not complain when individual privacy was violated due to Sony's subpoena of IP addresses.
The fact that Sony is now scrutinizing people's online actions is an invasion of the sovereignty of the individual.
That really is the crux of the anonymous attack and their actions, like them or not, have brought much attention to this.

The community outside of N4g seems to understand this issue much better, it seems.

Edit:
Telling someone to 'shut up' or 'pray for a brain' is hardly adding to the discussion, nor is it engaging and certainly is not civilized.
Can't we do better?

Rainstorm815522d ago (Edited 5522d ago )

@Paraglider

I am sure the community that disapproves of these hackers actions is far greater than the community that disapproves of what sony is doing.

Sony wanted IP addresses because hackers wanted to hack the PS3 using the source code geohot posted on his site....You "freedom fighters" act like sony was trying to get ip addresses just for kicks.....not to mention the people who support this just because of some kind of immature hate of Sont because they own another console....Do you also support Predator's attacks on XBL gamertags?

I guess you guy's idea of freedom is to have everything hacked and pirated til these companies cant even make the games we all enjoy and its not safe to put our CC# on XBL or PSN.....

You smell that? Thats Freedom my friend......S/

BTW freedom =/= free stuff

Klipz-Wish5523d ago (Edited 5523d ago )

How does this effect Sony are they using PSN to play online?

FailOverHero5523d ago

Are you serious?? Is this really a legitimate question? If you owned a shop and I kept people from coming to buy at your shop by throwing stones at them do you think you'll be making alot of money that day? Do you think your customers will be happy to wait it out or do you think those that can will go shop elsewhere?
Are you so desperately in love with SONY that you've convinced yourself they are unaffected by this?
That my friend is just SAD

Klipz-Wish5522d ago

I do not have any love for SONY, for all I care the company could cease to exist so long as I get the quality games I am getting now. That said obviously his comment was edited meaning my comment has less relevance to what he has said now. His former comment was more along the lines of "that will teach SONY" when honestly I feel this will have more of an effect on the PS3 gamers seeing as they use the service to actually play the games not SONY. But hey, thanks for telling me off anyways.

Who's you guys and you people? I rarely even play online so I really don't care but last I checked I never messed with anyones business/products/lives so please don't call me a lowlife.

Information Minister5523d ago (Edited 5523d ago )

Are you seriously comparing the majority of PS3 users who never cared about OtherOS to a bunch of cyber bullies who think they can do whatever they want and get away with it, hurting innocent people in the process? Wow, just wow... Talk about low lives.

And what's wrong with your lame excuse? I'll take a good single player over multiplayer any day of the week. I recently played Castlevania: LoS, Vanquish and Mass Effect 2, and I highly recommend all of them. That should keep any PS3 user busy until the good folks at anon turn their short attention span somewhere else.

EDIT: BTW, I think you got it a little mixed up. That "don't play for a day" was caused by a programming error that resulted in an internal clock malfunction which rendered some PS3 models unable to connect to PSN for the entire duration of March 1st 2010. It had nothing to do with Linux, and there was no way for Sony to release a fix for it over PSN, because those system couldn't go online. At least get your facts straight.

Graphics5523d ago

@ Information, Again with the nobody cares about other OS BS. You also have it twisted. Sony is the one that think they can do what ever they want, which is why they were found guilty for consumer abuse. I guess in your world minorities don't matter.

And to your bottom comment I have no idea where you are coming from. When I said Don't play for a day, I meant that if psn is having problems to just not play at all. People want to call hackers low lives but they can't give up gaming online or playing video games for 1 day or a few hours, making them seem like the low lives.

Information Minister5523d ago (Edited 5523d ago )

@ Graphics - Majority =/= everybody. Minority =/= nobody. Learn how to read and don't put words in my mouth.

As to my bottom comment, when you mentioned "don't play for a day", with that specific wording, I thought you were referring to the infamous ApocaliPS3 http://en.wikipedia.org/wik... . To my best knowledge, that was the only situation were PS3 users couldn't play for an entire day. If you were not talking about that particular event, then I misinterpreted and I apologize.

mastiffchild5522d ago

Graphics-people call the hackers in this instance lowlives because they're DELIBERATELY hurting the very people they claim to stand up for-gamers. If someone didn't ask them to do this why would they be a lowlife for being annoyed that it's happened? It's not the kind of thing that's going to have people shaking in their boots at Sony as it's something they'll have figured could be on the cards for a while now(dDos attacks aren't hard FFS)but if the only day I had spare due to work or other commitments for ages was ruined by thee idiots then, surely, I'd have a right to be pissed at Anonymous, wouldn't I?

I fail to see why a group would inflict themselves upon, mainly, gamers if they're honest about their intent. Honest about their motives-I suspect some people involves simply like little pranks and have little to no belief or reason behind any of this. Otherwise, and being fair to GeoHot(though I'm no fan)he did this, they could have stood up and shown themselves instead of doing the grown up equivalent of knocking the door and legging it.

I dunno why your getting disagrees. It does suck. It put me in a bad mood.

I appreciate that Anonymous might have good intentions (not that I agree with their intentions) but there affecting those who support the gaming industry.

There a bunch of piracy supporters who want everything for free and will happily complain when no-one makes games anymore because of piracy.

Silly gameAr5523d ago (Edited 5523d ago )

Damn, no one cares what these guy do to their systems, but when what they chose to do effects other peoples systems, that's where we have a problem. They want other os back? Cool. Do what you have to do to get it back. Just keep what you do regulated to YOUR system.

Why is that so hard to understand?

Treyb3yond5522d ago

Sony took away other os because it was being used to compromise security. People didn't have to update if they still wanted to dick around offline

Athlon10121d ago (Edited 21d ago )

The price increases are due to the RAM demand associated with AI and the US-Iran war. You can look to any business news website and local news to see that. Heck, even the 2026 Asus Zenbook Duo I've been eyeing has faced delays and has had a price increase of $400; that laptop has two specs. Asus is doing a staggered release with per-orders for the lower spec now and shipping in May and pre-orders for the higher spec that I'm eyeing starting in June. Basically, all computer manufactures are affected. It'll most likely start affecting smart phones too if it hasn't already. I can't remember the last time any major console maker (Nintendo, Sony, Sega, etc) increased the price of their console mid cycle outside of Microsoft just to make more profit.

S2Killinit20d ago

Its not the war. Its the RAM issue.

jznrpg20d ago

War is causing gas prices to rise. Transport of everything requires gas so the prices of those items go up as well. So it does have an impact

Athlon10120d ago (Edited 20d ago )

The blockage of the Straight of Hormuz due to the US-Iran war has affected raw components used in semi-conductor manufacturing such as bromine, aluminum, and helium. Iran had attacked the liquified natural gas (LNG) plant in Qatar which is a large producer (1/3 globally) of helium which is used in semiconductor etching. So it's the both the war and the RAM crises.

badz14921d ago

Oh no...should I get the Pro now before the price increase?

I dont think that'll ever happen. But i must say back in the day, they were definitely trying because they were more cash rich than their competitors.

CosmicTurtle34d ago

I think MS were and still are the richer company. They tried to acquire Sega back in the day (and considered doing so again more recently), they obviously bought exclusivity to Halo which was originally shown as a Mac title. I don’t think as a company MS can claim the moral high ground here. It’s a wilful lack of self awareness.

Of course Sony would try exactly the same if they had the resources, but when the PS2 dominated the industry was in a much healthier place with an abundance of great third parties.

This has been a depressing generation as far as first party decisions are concerned. The fact we are debating business plans rather than which game is better is a sad reflection of the state of things.

Darkseeker34d ago (Edited 34d ago )

There was Nintendo as well, Sony wouldn't have had a monopoly. In fact, the world would be better today if Xbox never existed in the first place. They pretty much brought all bad practices we have today. We might have gotten all of it either way, but not this early. In term of franchises, I don't think there is anything Microsoft released that would actually be missed if it didn't exist. Even Halo the world wouldn't notice if Halo didn't exist.

S2Killinit34d ago

MS was definitely a bad influence on gaming.

raWfodog34d ago

I think almost everyone will agree that a monopoly is not good for the industry. But that being said, the competition needs to be smart and strategic with their business. Simply buying up publishers and traditional third-party studios just to keep them out of the other companies reach is not a sustainable practice. That goes for all parties so don't think I'm just referring to Xbox.

I'm no business guru by any stretch of the imagination but I firmly believe that the best way to drive consumers to your software and hardware is to invest smart in your first-party studios. Give them full support and guidance in making unique, fun games that are only available to play in your ecosystem and the gamers will come.

Reaper22_34d ago (Edited 34d ago )

But first party studios aren't enough. They only make up a small portion of the industry. Without 3rd party there would be no industry for Microsoft or sony.Developing games take time and money and sometimes you gotta make moves to stay competitive.

raWfodog34d ago

Nah, I never said first-party was enough. I said it’s the ‘best way’ to drive gamers to your platform. 3rd-party is a free-for-all and there’s no guarantee that gamers will use your hardware to play the game. If you want to push your own software and/or hardware you need first-party, or at least exclusive deals with third-party studios.

SimpleDad34d ago

They Shure did a great job... 25 years later Xbox is dead.

Reaper22_34d ago

Then why be so emotional and continue to talk about it. Xbox will never die be ause it stays in so many people's head.

lodossrage34d ago

How can you even see him being "emotional" in that comment?

If anything, you're the emotional one, constantly trying to go at anyone that says anything against Microsoft. So when you call him emotional, it comes off as deflection
