Is Hacking Sony Making Any Progress?

Following an announcement today by hacking community “Anonymous,” Sony has officially projected that their network will be “undergoing maintenance.” In regard to this statement, as Sony is playing off the situation, is Anonymous actually making a difference?

Pretty much an Epic Fail.

The sites still work, did they even go down? - I mean longer than a couple of minutes?

JoeIsMad5517d ago

It doesn't appear to. I imagine that with anything, if there is a "problem" it would only be with unusual amount of sign-outs from PSN during usual play.

sdtarm5517d ago (Edited 5517d ago )

yeah, PSN its down right now but im sure they are just making sure they'll in no way hack PSN even if they've got something up their sleeve, they care about their consumers first and know thats dangerous

@ChristianGamer
Do you honestly believe that anyone cares about your opinion?

Dante1125517d ago (Edited 5517d ago )

Yeah, Sony probably got on it as soon as they threated them yesterday. Btw, Sony.com still works and the eu official playstation forums are back up.

Edit: Sony.com loaded quick for me, earlier I heard it was pretty slow though.

evrfighter5517d ago

Pretty sure anon owned psn and sony suddenly had to bring it down for maintenance.

Wonder how much ppl will buy this?

thorstein5517d ago

Funny thing, I just logged on to PSN and it was a fast login.

Anon = fail.

Can Anyone Connect To PSN? i Keep Getting Error (8071053D)

rezzah5517d ago

Just got off PSN.

There was nothing wrong with it.

kneon5517d ago

I think it depends on which regional server you're hitting. I was on for the last few hours and it only dumped me out for about 3 minutes during that whole time.

Ultraplayerxp5517d ago

I couldn't log on . . .for like 5 minutes.

thorstein5517d ago

And at what purpose. There are those of us that use Sony products. Anons ruin my experience. It doesn't make me dislike Sony or what they do. It just justifies what they did that much more.

BlackTar1875517d ago

exactly something these hackers are missing. What there doing doesn't help illustrate there point but instead helps illustrate sonys point.

For the movement man

kneon5517d ago

And if you read their sorry justifications for their actions then it becomes obvious why they want to be anonymous. No one would ever want to be known to be associated with such morons.

BattleAxe5517d ago (Edited 5517d ago )

These hackers aren't going to get any sympathy from Sony's paying customers like myself, especially if they screw around with the Playstation Network.

These hackers should go after something more important like documents that support ex-military claims of interaction with UFOs, U.S. Black Budget documents or Federal Reserve documents where peoples tax dollars are being used without any knowledge on what those dollars are being spent on.

Instead they're screwing with a company that makes electronics and video games, who is trying to protect their products and services. Money is the name of the game, and if Sony can't protect its investment, then whats the point in producing these consumer items. These hackers are doing consumers a huge disservice. If you don't like Sony's console or their terms of service, then go buy a Nintendo Wii, XBOX 360 or a PC, thats what consumer choice is all about. Hacking will hurt consoles just like piracy hurts the developers.

LiL T5517d ago

YESSSSSSSSS! Exactly, if the hackers were so awsome and good at what they do and not doing illegal shit (ya right) why aren't they smart enough to expose any government files or are they just all geohot like pussies.

GrandTheftZamboni5517d ago

Yeah, all those hackers and pirates owe me money. All the costs they are causing are being covered by paying customers such as myself in the end.

1. MKV support
2. SRT support
3. Cross Game Chat

[Hackers] Damn it. Too hard. Fuck it. Let's just attack Sony's website.

ChristianGamer5517d ago

Let me ask those that think this is not affecting SONY a simple question.
Do you think that this instills alot of confidence in SONY for 3rd party publishers?? Do you think the bosses at EA or Activision or Ubisoft are comfortable knowing that the PS Store has become a target of these attacks?
Do you honestly believe SONY is unaffected when their business is disrupted like that?
You reckon if a bank was the target of a robbery it would only affect the consumer?? If you were a potential investor and you heard that a bank was going to be the target of a series of robberys would you still do business at that bank?
You think about that next time you say only the consumers suffer from these attacks and SONY is fine

JoeIsMad5517d ago

"Attacks" on a server is not relative to a bank robbery. DDOS attacks only increase server load on Sony's hardware. As long as Sony can handle the increase in server load, it is again, no big deal.

spektical5517d ago

exactly.
playstion.com doesnt load for me, and sony.com is slower than my sisters pet turtle walking for water on a hot summer's day.

it really depends on how many connections are being used to assualt the servers.

thorstein5517d ago

It is working now. Wow.. what an epic fail on Anonymous' part.

radphil5517d ago (Edited 5517d ago )

"You think about that next time you say only the consumers suffer from these attacks and SONY is fine"

You mean like the thousands of other sites that get DDoS attacks because someone can just overload the servers?

If this was private information and other stuff, THEN people would be worried. This is a traffic alteration. It's actually illegal to do in many regions anyways.

I remember a quote a while back how it's compared to:

DDoS attacks are the equivalent of "15 fat men trying to get through a revolving door at the same time" - nothing can move.

I mean more than likely these kinds of things come from jokers on 4chan anyways.

Parapraxis5517d ago (Edited 5517d ago )

ChristianGamer ...go away, nobody (except fellow trolls like the one below) cares what you have to say. You do nothing but troll, seriously, get a damn life.

I'm not surprised you are completely delusional and out of touch with reality and the facts of the matter, (lol @ name). Seriously, you don't have a CLUE what you are talking about.

@Loner, great trolling kiddo. Did you hone your skills @ 4chan /v/ ?
LMAO @ "Non pro PS3 opinions" yup, we got a 4chan kid here folks!

Loner5517d ago (Edited 5517d ago )

Public forum. He can say what he wants
In the real world people dont worship Sony at every moment of their existence.Get over it

Also note that this site is a multi gaming site. Not a Sony centric forum

@ Parapraxis

Its ok.I get it
Non pro PS3 opinions = trolling

Arksine5517d ago

You don't really think he is Christian do you?

Information Minister5517d ago

@ Loner - You're right about one thing: this is a multiplatform website, which is why it's divided into several channels. If you don't like Sony and/or the PS3, then by all means, feel free to share your opinion on the Xbox/PC/Wii/industry channel, where you are likely to find people with the same mindset.

But if you decide to spout your "non pro PS3 opinions" on the PS3 channel, then I regret to inform you but you are trolling. There's no other word for it and I don't care how you spin it. You are a troll.

On topic - Every time I see a story about anonymous, this image comes to my mind:

MrBeatdown5517d ago

Uh, wasn't Visa one of their recent targets? Last I checked, EA still accepted my Visa card when I buy games from them. So does just about every other place.

Clearly it was devastating to Visa. lol.

lee_ten5517d ago

oh look, loner's rushing to the defense of someone who trolls. what a coincidence. /s

btw christian, that's very flawed logic. just saying.

yes, the only progress is making every gamer pissed off.

thorstein5517d ago

Exactly. Why not go hack the Westboro Baptist Church or the Church of Scientology or whatever group that offends morality. I have seen them be successful against other groups like the WTO and I can sympathise (NOT APPROVE) with their actions. Backing Wikileaks and such, BUT Sony is not any of those groups.

Looks like PlayStation took a hit with Marathon and is now quietly adjusting prices worldwide to recover the losses

andy8515d ago

Lets be honest raising prices doesn't do that when no one's buying it. I imagine the profit it greater selling 10 times more at a lower price

Pergele15d ago

Whatever you say buddy, let's all wear the tinfoil hats.

IceKoldKilla15d ago (Edited 15d ago )

LMFAO Your comment alone says a lot more about you than anything else. When has one game not selling 10 million copies made a company raise the prices of their console? Then Xbox would be costing $5000 by now lol. You remind of the crazy drug addicts on the street rambling on about conspiracies. xD You sure you don't need a hug, buddy?

ChunkyMonk15d ago

One game that Sony payed $200 million for. lol
Also, you sure were quick to get triggered. Maybe your the one who needs a hug?

If nothing else, we should be united against the real issue here. AI and unnecessary tariffs that are effecting all gamers.

Athlon10115d ago (Edited 15d ago )

The price increases are due to the RAM demand associated with AI and the US-Iran war. You can look to any business news website and local news to see that. Heck, even the 2026 Asus Zenbook Duo I've been eyeing has faced delays and has had a price increase of $400; that laptop has two specs. Asus is doing a staggered release with per-orders for the lower spec now and shipping in May and pre-orders for the higher spec that I'm eyeing starting in June. Basically, all computer manufactures are affected. It'll most likely start affecting smart phones too if it hasn't already. I can't remember the last time any major console maker (Nintendo, Sony, Sega, etc) increased the price of their console mid cycle outside of Microsoft just to make more profit.

S2Killinit15d ago

Its not the war. Its the RAM issue.

jznrpg14d ago

War is causing gas prices to rise. Transport of everything requires gas so the prices of those items go up as well. So it does have an impact

Athlon10114d ago (Edited 14d ago )

The blockage of the Straight of Hormuz due to the US-Iran war has affected raw components used in semi-conductor manufacturing such as bromine, aluminum, and helium. Iran had attacked the liquified natural gas (LNG) plant in Qatar which is a large producer (1/3 globally) of helium which is used in semiconductor etching. So it's the both the war and the RAM crises.

badz14915d ago

Oh no...should I get the Pro now before the price increase?

I dont think that'll ever happen. But i must say back in the day, they were definitely trying because they were more cash rich than their competitors.

CosmicTurtle28d ago

I think MS were and still are the richer company. They tried to acquire Sega back in the day (and considered doing so again more recently), they obviously bought exclusivity to Halo which was originally shown as a Mac title. I don’t think as a company MS can claim the moral high ground here. It’s a wilful lack of self awareness.

Of course Sony would try exactly the same if they had the resources, but when the PS2 dominated the industry was in a much healthier place with an abundance of great third parties.

This has been a depressing generation as far as first party decisions are concerned. The fact we are debating business plans rather than which game is better is a sad reflection of the state of things.

Darkseeker28d ago (Edited 28d ago )

There was Nintendo as well, Sony wouldn't have had a monopoly. In fact, the world would be better today if Xbox never existed in the first place. They pretty much brought all bad practices we have today. We might have gotten all of it either way, but not this early. In term of franchises, I don't think there is anything Microsoft released that would actually be missed if it didn't exist. Even Halo the world wouldn't notice if Halo didn't exist.

S2Killinit28d ago

MS was definitely a bad influence on gaming.

raWfodog28d ago

I think almost everyone will agree that a monopoly is not good for the industry. But that being said, the competition needs to be smart and strategic with their business. Simply buying up publishers and traditional third-party studios just to keep them out of the other companies reach is not a sustainable practice. That goes for all parties so don't think I'm just referring to Xbox.

I'm no business guru by any stretch of the imagination but I firmly believe that the best way to drive consumers to your software and hardware is to invest smart in your first-party studios. Give them full support and guidance in making unique, fun games that are only available to play in your ecosystem and the gamers will come.

Reaper22_28d ago (Edited 28d ago )

But first party studios aren't enough. They only make up a small portion of the industry. Without 3rd party there would be no industry for Microsoft or sony.Developing games take time and money and sometimes you gotta make moves to stay competitive.

raWfodog28d ago

Nah, I never said first-party was enough. I said it’s the ‘best way’ to drive gamers to your platform. 3rd-party is a free-for-all and there’s no guarantee that gamers will use your hardware to play the game. If you want to push your own software and/or hardware you need first-party, or at least exclusive deals with third-party studios.

SimpleDad28d ago

They Shure did a great job... 25 years later Xbox is dead.

Reaper22_28d ago

Then why be so emotional and continue to talk about it. Xbox will never die be ause it stays in so many people's head.

lodossrage28d ago

How can you even see him being "emotional" in that comment?

If anything, you're the emotional one, constantly trying to go at anyone that says anything against Microsoft. So when you call him emotional, it comes off as deflection

Elda28d ago

I own an XBSX & I can say it's becoming irrelevant out of the 3 current consoles.
