LethalBunny.com: The Generational Controller Gap

There are many things about the the gaming world that i ponder when it’s late at night, after i’ve grown bored with TV and my eyelids are too heavy to play any games. Questions such as: how in the hell is Blizzard going to improve on Diablo, just how hot would a real life Samus be and when will SquareEnix get their collective heads out of their butts and give us Kingdom Hearts 3 already? But my newest nighttime musing is about controllers and little kids mastering them.

This is the stupidest article of all time, essesntially. How come cavemen can't understand Nuclear fission but scientists taday can?

It was an excellent article about an aspect of game culture and evolution of the medium.
Your analogy also is not very good. Your making a rather extreme comparison and it doesn't match up.

OT: I wonder what the future of controllers holds. Obviously we have no buttons, and motion with buttons. I think what will end up being best for everyone are things like the wii wand move controller. Though future versions will have to have kinect like abilities. The buttons are absolutely necessary for the time being until we find some easier way to map complicated actiors to instant use commands.

I think gestures have the same limitations that buttons have and constant one to one mapping will have many totally opposite limitations. You won't be able to map complicated actions. You will have to rely on the user to be able to complete any actions the player character is supposed to make. Which will limit gameplay to the limitations of the human body and reality for the most port.

One day we will have to become the player character with all their abilities and limitations.

Well, if you believe the current sheaf of consoles out there, we're looking at controller-less future! Wheee!

I'm kidding. I have a feeling until they're strapping things into your synapses, controllers are the way to go.

I grew up with the classic playstation controller, and I'm extremely glad the new ones are nearly identical to the originals. It just doesn't feel right to have any other controller in my hands.

1000% agree. Though the PS3 triggers I'm not too fond of. I got those "realtriggers" add-ons, and everything is perfect now :D

Well the games they play usually dont use all the buttons. Those game are still basic and dont require the use of all the buttons. This helps them get the hang of it and then they move on to different games that use the buttons and then learn from there.

I'm still looking for an ultimate controller to come into existance one day. I feel that the current state on controllers can be drastically improved. I really like the razor onza but I mean don't your thumb ever tire of running around on the left stick in a massive game world? It's made easier on PC by just holding down a key or clicking the ground.
Don't you think the current design of controllers need an overhaul? It would be nice if they were built with more quality as well. The default controllers are really cheap on quality. Razor onza shows you can make a higher quality controller & sell it for $50.

IDK, maybe the waggle devices & controllers will one day merge & become something more natural.

I will note that I prefer the d-pad position & left analog stick position on the ps3 controller over the 360. I prefer the triggers on 360 but I think a redesign of controllers is needed soon.

I don't care if a controller changes. as long as it feels good.

of course the average person on N4G.com is a idiot. so I guess the article works.
