I'll say it again

M$ has already said they plan to build a new xbox in 2012, not 2009.

HDMI IS standard now on all 360s manufactured, where have you people been?

The reason Sony is saying the PS3 is a 10 year console is because they know dam well they will not make a dime off the thing for a very long time, therefor it must be around a long time. M$ will do the same, these companies have to keep the consoles around long enuff to make the money back that they invested in them. The reason xbox was dropped is because it would never become profitable, M$ was using other peoples technology in it and they could not lower component costs as a result.
360 guts will get cheaper and the box will become profitable, if it is not already.

In fact due to the extra billion bucks M$ had to sink into the 360 it may be around even longer to make that cash back. I see a new xbox coming no sooner than 2013. Keep in mind M$ does not need to rush, Sony will not be dropping PS4 for "10 years" that is like 2016.

I wish you would have post that first.

MSFT isn't going to kill off the 360 when the new consoles released thats for sure.

... that I haven't read the other article but it seems to me that the only real reason MS would launch a new console would be because Blu-ray wins the current format war. If all developers are determined to produce their future games on blu-ray, then the 360 will be essentially abandoned. MS will then have to make the descision to either embrace the new format or leave the console market. Unless their is another storage format lurking unseen that will appear in the next few years, this is, IMO, the most likely reason that MS would make a new console so soon.

I am forever baffled by some of the stuff people say in reaction to articles. It's like they don't understand English.

I'll say two things.

Comments like "You don’t roll out a new system just to enable wireless support for a few guitars. MS could just as easily let devs use their proprietary wireless for free." are stupid. It was merely one of 10 points, not the sole reason.

Second, the features that don't come standard will become more important to your average consumer by 2009 and the idea of having to add them on will not seem that appealling when other consoles like the PS3 are doing it one bundle.

The X360 is almost outdated already.

Anyway, let`s wait for Christmas sales and see. =)

Maybe I missed something. The PS2 was a POS in the power department, and half you guys praised it. Last time I checked games are what decided who sold the most consoles. But wait.....the Wii has none but is killing in sales. The thing is we (hardcore games) write the Wii off. This goes to show that we (myself included) don't know what we are talking about. Casual games run the market. Hardcore Sony fans never had a problem with the PS3 being $600 now did they. Casual gamers don't have a problem with the Wii being a gamecube with a new controller. The bottom line is mass market appeal. Who will get it in the end. It will be between Nintendo and Sony. M$ does not have to longevity or the brand name yet.
