"The limitations of downloadable content – for instance Microsoft’s is 2GB – meant we had to abandon a plan to sell the game with only four characters at a relatively small price and then sell the additional characters separately,"

I'm glad there's a 2 GB limit then. The last thing I want to do it pay for an incomplete game and get nickel and dimed up the ass.

OhMyGandhi5521d ago

totally agree with you.
I can see how the 2gb limitations can be...well, limiting, and how that can impact a developer's decision as to just HOW they approach the DLC realm, but in all honesty, it really does speak volumes when a FIGHTING game that should have COMPLETE ROSTER of characters wants to charge characters NOT on the game due to Microsoft.

It begs the question: who's more greedy?

Yeah I agree, Im not sure how the 2gb limit prevented them from doing this, but props to Micrsoft for whatever reason from preventing this developer from selling an incomplete game, and charging for the rest of the game piecemeal.

Sam and Max, that is how you do episodic content.

Wallace and Grommit, that is also how you do episodic content.

Even... Penny Arcade (where is number three though?)

Each game or download has to stand on its own merits.

And yeah, I am still bitter about Cerbrus network on ME2. Really, you are gonna make me pay for DLC to get the rest of the game? Really???

GodGinrai5521d ago

funny thing is even with cerberus network, you still had to buy most of the DLC!

SixZeroFour5521d ago

but this can go a couple ways

1. the limit forces devs to make full use of the dvd and put as much into it, so the dlc can cover the leftovers

2. the limit forces devs to split the dlc into more dlc parts because it cant fit into one dlc package

i hope that this forces devs to do the first option, but you never know how it will turn out

i wouldve preferred that ms would have made a maximum price point of like $5 that dlc cant be sold above, along with the 2gb limit or something along those lines

This might explain why some games that had expansions on the PC versions didn't get a 360 release or released as a seperate game.

Command & Conquer 3 & C&C: Red Alert 3 comes to mind with the C&C3 Kane's Wrath expansion which was released as a retail game and RA3's Uprising expansion got watered down to a XBLA game with Commanders Challenge.

Lol what?

The 2gb limit is for individual DLC. Are they suggesting each character is over 2gb? The full game fits onto an 8gb disc so that seems to be, uh, lies.

Plus they could just use unlock codes. If they really wanted. I mean they weren't shy of doing so for the other two characters, so why not do so for the whole cast? If that's what they really want.

I'd definitely buy the game for £10-20 then just buy the characters I want. On fighting games most people only play one or two characters anyway.

Well lara croft guardian of light is 2.1GB and its a dlc game! And MVC3 its a full Disc game and haves only 2.9GB of data dump on the 360 HDD.I guess a engine rework is in order.

Lara Croft is an XBLA game so it doesn't count, it means DLC as in stuff to add on to the existing game.

Jumping into the BlazBlue series is daunting at this point

"Getting into a long-standing fighting game series is always a challenge for new players. There are so many characters and different versions to go over for many of them and going up against seasoned players who’ve been with the series for years is one of the biggest barriers. BlazBlue, however, has something a lot of other games don’t have; a ton of story. The series is known for having a lot of story content, which can make that initial barrier even harder for new players because if they jump into a new game and play the story mode, they aren’t going to be able to follow it." -- PlayStation Enthusiast
