By 2012 Exclusives Will Be Dead

360 Magazine: We take a look at publishers’ changing attitudes towards exclusives, and what that says about the future of the industry.

You may have pledged your allegiance to Xbox because of Halo or Gears Of War, but platform-exclusive games are becoming a less and less important factor in distinguishing between consoles…

Nope, I mean all of them. The 360 ones are just a little further along.

doG_beLIEfs5583d ago (Edited 5583d ago )

Your logic confounds me. Sony's biggest asset is their biggest and best group of 1st party studios sharing information and cranking out games that can ONLY be played on Sony platforms. Why Sony would give away their best card is ridiculous IMO.

Sony has 20+ 1st party studios...they have spent decades making them and buying them and it would be suicide to just give them away.

I have not even read your argument yet (I will as soon as I am done typing this) but with a statement like that I had to respond immediately.

Edit...ok I have read your article and I stand by my original comment.

Why don't you contact Sony and Nintendo and see what they have to say about this? My guess is that they will show you courtesy on the phone and then when they hang up start rotflTHEIRao

MaxXAttaxX5583d ago (Edited 5583d ago )

Sure, Xbox(360) has lost almost all exclusives now, but that's because they're mostly from third party devs.

Do you know what first party studios are?
Do you think Sony and Nintendo will give up/sell their franchises??? I don't think so.

You should re-title and change your article to:
"By 2012 3rd Party Exclusives Will Be Dead".

There, fixed it for you :)

PS. The people in your 360mag website seem to disagree with you as well.

superadvanced5583d ago

by 2012 we'll all be dead :D

RealtorMDandDC5582d ago

Agreed...........This is what Sony does. They have invested heavily in the Video Game business. PS brand is Sony's core business it helps drives everything else....

GraySnake5583d ago

Well for the 360 anyway.... MS has very little First-Party support, it just used alot of its money to make ps3 exclusives multipltform or exclusive timed DLC. Sony saw this in the early years of the PS3 and since then has bought not games but Entire Studios.. and Mario is gonna show up on the 360? -_- right?

Focker4205583d ago

As long as Sony is making game consoles then there will always be exclusives.

Ult iMate5583d ago

Umm.. Not only Sony. Nintendo has its own exclusives too. Practically every Wii/DS game is an exclusive. ))) . It seems only MS doesn't have that much exclusives lately.

RealtorMDandDC5582d ago

So True....As long as Sony is in the Video Game business there will always be Exclusives....That's what has put Sony PS Brand on the map....and has helped others succeed...

Parapraxis5583d ago

LOL, he really means all of them...lmao
I think you need your meds Dailynch.

Just_The_Truth5583d ago

do you think developers don't have a say or something some companies perefer to do business with certain companies. Also the only way i could possibly see this happing is if both companies had the same devkits and hardware even if ND wanted UC2or3 on the xbox it's not even possible in the xbox case gears halo forza fable are all possible on the ps3 look at bioshock and ME2&3 in fact most xbox games can probably be ported to the NGP too. I know it's hard to accept but quit with the BS when there is no logical reason why nintendo and sony will stop making exclusives.

strifeblade5583d ago

by 2012,
the world is gonna end

so ya 360 excusives are dead as well as sony ones.

pain777pas5583d ago

Exclusives will be even more important in the future once hardware is completely unique on each platform. Right now I can see Nintendo and Sony having a field day in the coming years. Microsoft if they will continue to spend will do well but it will be a hard sell next gen because gamers are the early adopters. First party support has saved Nintendo with the DS, Wii and 3DS. Sony and MS have pretty much split market share for the HD consoles because they are so similar. Next gen will be 3 unique takes that I am certain and first party devs will show what the systems can do. You have to have 1st party even for the development community to be inspired.

RealtorMDandDC5582d ago

good point....If it was not for Sony PS3 exclusives they will be up shit's creek without a paddle....And for Nintendo....exclusives makes Nintendo Nintendo......

evilmonkey5015583d ago

This article is seriously misinforming. You take one company and bam! apply it to the whole industry. Sorry to tell it to you, but the only system that doesn't have exclusives in its future is Microsoft's.Sony OWNS OVER TWENTY exclusive studios. You do understand the principle of ownership, right Mr dailylynch? The first day I play mario on my xbox, I'll eat crow. I promise.

xtremeimport5583d ago

Microsoft hopes that this will be the case.

moparful995583d ago

Sounds like this so called "article" is an opinion piece peppered with wishful thinking disguised as an article based in fact.. Dude the only exclusives that are dissapearing are 360 and third party.. Sony has ramped up their offering to an all time high.. It seems like just about every week a new exclusive is coming down the pipes.. We've already had several to start the year off.. I know that it absolutely must suck having to wait until september before you get to play anything memorable on your precious 360 but there's no need to post this nonsense online and pass it off as factual... Get real dude..

Bravo45583d ago

Uhhh, Sony has about 15 first party studios and own dozens of fan favorite IPs. I don't know what you're talking about.

BubbleSniper5582d ago

they own like 21 studios or more

Jezuz5582d ago

i think you get the point bubble

Vherostar5582d ago

LOL I love how no 360 has next to no AAA exclusive they no longer matter as this is basically what the article is saying. Not that they won't be around just they won't have the pulling power. Amazing really...

I think the Mayans knew something that we don't.

digitalivan5583d ago

I think Mayans just run out of space on their stone calendar.

palaeomerus5583d ago

The Mayans themselves (who still survive in Mexico BTW, they just don't build pyramid cities or maintain an empire like in the old days since their empire collapsed) don't believe in the 2012 calendar prophecy. They roll their eyes at the new age idiots who pester them about it.

No Way5583d ago (Edited 5583d ago )

Aliens! They have drawings, even back then, about aliens! And, UFO's.
The aliens came here, from wherever, and told the ancient civilizations..
That if we aren't 'advanced' enough, in 2012, they will slaughter us!

:D Hey.. It's an idea.

Not that I believe in the 2012 thing but that doesn't really mean much. The current Mayans and ancient Mayans would be a lot different. Like current and ancient Romans.

PS3 It Can Only Stop End of Worlds

jke825583d ago (Edited 5583d ago )

OFF TOPIC

as far as the 2012 thing goes theres an old saying, occams razor, that states "the simplest explanation is most likely the correct one"

so lets say your a mayan calender maker banging away on a stone for days and days just busting ass to make said calender. so after working hard for years on your calender you ask your boss

" Hey man ive been working on this calender for 10 years im finally all the way up to 2012 on this thing can i take a break for a bit. i think the magical white guys on horses gave me a cold.."
*insert death of mayans here*
hence *insert end of calender here*
*and insert crackpot theory of end of world here*

***EDIT*** speaking of the end of the world what happend with that whole Y2K thing there end of world enthusiasts???

Breadisgood5583d ago

Er, not quite sure what you're trying to say here dude. For a start that's not really what Occam's Razor is. Fewest assumptions =/= simplest. Either way, I don't really see how it applies to the 2012 bullsh*t.

There's been tons of "end of the world" theories, and there'll still be loads of them after 2012. The 2012 one in particular was just one that got more popular than the others.

It is exactly like the Y2K thing as you've mentioned.

RealtorMDandDC5582d ago

That's not until 12/12/12 tho.....so there is still time to play some 20+ PS3 exclusives.....maybe see the new Xbox720...with Kinect integrated...buy a 3D TV at a reasonable price....grab a iPad 3, iPhone 6....and a 3DS light...

By 2012 Exclusives Will Be Dead... for 360 maybe

Dart895583d ago

Doubt it for ps3 cuz they still have many exclusives left for next year.

Dailynch5583d ago

This year yeah, but what about the next? (though I do realise these don't normally get announced so soon, but there's a chance Sony could follow Microsoft's lead).

Pintheshadows5583d ago

So you think that Sony is going to let ND develop for other consoles. Or GG, SSM, Sony Cambridge, Studio Liverpool. Dream on chap.

redDevil875583d ago

na there's no way Sony are going to follow MS's lead, look at all the 1st party devs they have.

Sony are in the business of making games and they'll continue to do so throughout the PS3's lifespan like the PS1 and PS2.

jeseth5583d ago

Dailynch. . .

A Chance?

There's also a good chance you are on crack.

Focker4205583d ago

Fail

Sony aren't going to tell all of their extremely talented developers to go piss in the wind. Not a chance in hell. So you think all of their frranchises will just end after this year's installment?? Someones delusional...

B1663r5583d ago

@Pintheshadows,

Sony is not beholden to fanboys. They are duty bound to their shareholders. If they can make more money releasing multi-plat then they are required to, by law. (no really, if a publically held company does something for a reason other than make money, they are breaking the law)

So the only way Sony can continue to release a bunch of so-so selling exclusives, is if they can make the case to shareholders that they need to do that. On the other hand, if they start releasing their non-core exclusives as multi-plat, they are looking at a couple of billion dollars of revenue. Eventually, the shareholders are going to have issues with Sony's policies on not licensing their ip to Microsoft, simply because they can no longer make the case that it makes them more money...

In fact, I am going to start pointing that out on the stock trading blogs, that sony is ignoring potential revenue streams with their failed exclusives policy.

macky3015583d ago (Edited 5583d ago )

Guess who is not coming out with new console next gen,...

They have only a hand full of studios left
The investors have been forcing them out of gaming for years now
It is not Nintendo
It is not Sony

-You are not making much money on software, since you don't have studios, only a small cut from third party publishers that want to support you still

-You can't make much money (should not be making it at all -should be loosing) on hardware unless it is overpriced

-You get a lot of money from subscription and forcing your customers to pay to play online,.. where competition has that free,..

-You have to pay other publishers enormous amount of money on exclusive deals,..So you can differentiate your product,...
but since they don't want half of market they give you exclusive DLC,.. and even give you timed exclusive deals

I really don't know,..
I kinda hope that is competition and shit,.. but I think xbox might be dead,.. When you see EA and certain company banging each-other on E3 stage,.. you know you are on a right team,.. because they follow tha moneyz,..

nix5583d ago

@jeseth: a good chance...? looks like he's heavily on crack.

which douche writes a crackpot article n comes here and defends it??? oh wait.. his name is Dailynch!

Biggest5583d ago

"if a publically held company does something for a reason other than make money, they are breaking the law"

Did you make that one up yourself? Or did Dailynch help you with the crazy?

Pedobear Rocks5583d ago

Dude...stop trying to defend your completely ill informed arguments.

1. Sony has 20+ internal studios...they are all going to shut down in a year?

2. Nintendo...um...they will just stop developing all their inhouse games....the ones that sell 10s of millions?

Please stop making idiotic posts and putting them on n4g...its a waste of bandwidth for all concerned.

moparful995583d ago

@b1663r
Wow you take the cake for most absurd argument I've seen on this site.. Do you honestly buy into your bull that sony is legally bonded to their shareholders? Nope not true bud.. Sony is still managed within, shareholders have a "SAY" in the goings on but sony in now way has to listen.. Their held accountable for their actions in that shareholders have the right to sell off their shares which hurts the companies standing on the stock market and nothing more.. But in all actuality your flawed logic began in thinking that sony first party titles don't make money.. LMAO you are dillusional... You and the rest of the anti ps3 alliance for some reason think that if a game doesn't sell 7 million copies then its a financial flop and that is just asanine.. Most titles don't even need to sell a million copies to break even.. Sony makes most of their money off of their first party titles as well as licensing fees...

PlayStation legend Shuhei Yoshida says Jim Ryan fired him because he didn't listen to him

S2Killinit82d ago (Edited 82d ago )

Wtf why all that anger. PlayStation is dominating on every level. Besides I think there is a little more to hiring a CEO than just who is available. Its not like its a athlete your team wants to buy.

neutralgamer199282d ago

S2Killinit

live service failures, chasing trends, closing studios. yes dominating

Cacabunga82d ago

Sony is Dominating because competition is not existing. Compared to previous gens this is the poorest in terms of software offerings.

Last gen we got Uncharted 4 Lost Legacy and TLOU2 from ND alone.

This is so far a remasters gen, with no competition to lift up the quality

1nsomniac82d ago (Edited 82d ago )

..."PlayStation is dominating on every level"....

...Really???

PlayStation are soon heading into a new generation in the not to distant future. They currently have the worst customer satisfaction they've ever sustained as a company. The company is heading for a huge crash while at the same time they'll need to be planning how they are going to try and win back that favour and the build up to their new releases.

Yes financially they're winning but they're going to have to ride out this complete public corporate disaster. No one has faith in the company or the product anymore. They've damaged their public image so much this generation. Greed can kill anyone.

He would've done the same thing and fire Jim Ryan and Shuhei would be the villain. Why?
Because Elite creates the narrative and distraction for gamers, users and citizens.

Outside_ofthe_Box83d ago

More confirmation that Jim Ryan is the culprit for what has happened to Sony. Hulst needs to go too. What sucks is that a lot of the good top heads at Sony are no longer there. I wish that guys that were forced out prematurely by Dumbo Jimbo like Shuhei and Layden came back.

robtion82d ago

Yep. Yoshida was responsible for bringing one of the best games of this generation to playstation (Stellar Blade). He is an actual gamer and is in touch with what gamers want (creative, fun games, not GaaS and agenda pushing). He also seems like a genuinely nice guy if you watch some interviews. Of course they got rid of him.

darthv7283d ago

Makes you wonder if MS even thought about hiring him after Phil and Sarah were leaving. He certainly couldn't make their situation any worse.

All the gamer/consumer lead heads are gone across PS and Xbox. shuhei gone phil's gone (questionable) but gone. The future of gaming is somewhat uncertain across the board.
