At this point we might as well have digital downloads that way developers won't have to keep pushing this anti-piracy bullshit on us gamers every time a new game comes out.

I'm kinda going back to my belief that EA is evil.. I mean, they're doing money grubbing things that Activision isn't. & That's really saying something. They're starting a horrible, horrible trend that I hope doesn't run rampant.

Plus, GameStop has been discounting some online pass games extra when they get them in as pre-owned. So, until they go full digital distribution, this won't end their problems.

I buy new every chance I get, but still... geez...

I wonder if these publishers realize that this means I will buy *fewer* new games rather than *more*. A bunch of idiots steering these ships.

To be honest, everyone who's saying "If I can't rent or buy this game and get the whole thing, I'm not getting it at all." isn't really accomplishing anything.

Game Developers: "So, you were going to buy the game used but now you won't because of online pass? So, basically, we weren't getting your money either way? Who are you again, and why do we care?"

Buying a game used is one thing, because they've already sunk money into the game and what they make off of the sales is what they make back towards the production. Multiplayer modes still cost money to maintain. They need servers and employees working to make sure that the online content is functional, so them asking for $10 from the guy who beat the game in 3 days after renting it for $5 isn't really that much to ask for to maintain the multiplayer.

I just rented Dead Space 2 from Gamefly, and was at first pissed about the online pass message that came up. After thinking about it though, I'll try the free trial. If I like it enough, maybe I'll fork over the $10. I don't have high hopes though, so I doubt I'll be getting it. In the end though, it's still less than I would have spent on the full price of the game. I got to play the game for cheap, and the developers get some money they wouldn't have otherwise got from me because I rented.

This is like being pissed that the used car you bought for $3,000 less than it was worth didn't have a stereo in it. Go buy a fucking stereo if you want it so bad.

Not an issue for me as I don't buy used games.

The Devs/Publishers have every right to do this. It's their product. It sucks of course, but it's true.

But we can still hope for this ideal situation:

That the game resellers like on Amazon or Gamestop drop the price of their used games even LOWER to account for the consumer having to pay extra for online.

And I don't believe every game with online will do this, espcecially first party MS and Sony games.

I do really think its silly that Nether Realms is charging for Mortal Kombat. While yes the game looks promising, Mk still has a bad rep for making shitty MK games the last 15+ years. It only hurts their image more.

it's just a shame i wasn't going to buy the game anyway so my refusal to buy it would count as a lost sale.

and one more thing, they're so keen to "monetise" different parts of their games, yet they still refuse to take responsibility for them.

they'll charge you for online play, yet say playing online is done at your own risk.
if the online mode goes down for days, will they compensate the players?
ea didn't and i can't see these guys being any different.

they want the benefits but none of the responsibility.

and if people are effectively paying for the online mode, why are they still having to host games themselves?
while the publisher's servers just keep score?
