so are you saying MS didn't give details about IPTV. also got provider to jump on board thier service. isn't disney one of thier provider.and as for sony talking about this 9 month ago. Funny how we are just hearing about it now.

its ps3movies.com or something, and it only works through ps3s browser. last time i checked it was a bit lacking, but had some decent trailers etc..
there was a live stream feature there aswell, that was still waiting to be used.

IPTV on the 360 will be offered by existing internet service providers, not MS. MS will provide its software platform along with integration with the 360's hardware and xbox live interface, but your local ISP will decide what mix of programming and services to offer and how much they will charge you.

Some of you seem to think IPTV is just another weapon in the console wars, but you all need to think a lot bigger if you want to understand what MS is up to. MS wants nothing less than to take over the way we watch TV. MS is gunning for global adoption of its Mediaroom software as the standard platform for delivering IPTV, which MS believes will eventually supplant traditional broadcasting as the primary means for delivering tv programming to the masses. If things go according MS's plans, Mediaroom has potential to be a bigger cash cow than Windows. MS started working on Mediaroom before 2002, well before the first Xbox came out. The latest version of Mediaroom finally looks fully featured and mature enough for a world-wide rollout. ATT, British Telecom, Deutsche Telekom and Sing Tel (Singapore), among others, have already adopted MS Mediaroom as their platform for delivering IPTV.

That's why I can't see what Sony intends to accomplish with its Korean IPTV venture. Unlike MS, Sony does not have a long-standing IPTV strategy and hasn't put in anywhere near the money and effort MS has sunk into IPTV technology. MS has built up a commanding lead of several years in IPTV platform development, and compared to the scale of MS's global IPTV operation, Sony's Korean venture seems downright puny. I don't even know if Sony developed its own proprietary IPTV platform or if it plans to license one from somebody else (Mediaroom?). I wonder how serious Sony is with IPTV.

6# I'v seen the whole list of MSFT's IPTV features at the time it was first announced its very advanced. Sony's always in a hurry to implement others idea's from this generation not things that have been proven and tested for years and years. The only thing Sony is doing that they have came up with is *Home* all the other functions, features and services are from mostly MSFT and the Wii.

Agreed. MSFT is trying to reinvent TV. They are going to sell the 360 to cable providers as set-top boxes with added benifits. Really Cable providers will be able to buy the 360 from MFST in bulk.

This Sony thing is just for bragging rights using Japan as ginni pigs so they can tell consumers "see we have it too".

As for 360 sales being used as tools in the console war this will cause new flame due to the sales by default when this takes off.

Correct me if I'm wrong, but wouldn't the 360 hardware as it stands now be a poor choice in this sort of venture? I would think the reliability issues of the hardware would cause a much larger problem than simply a gaming inconvenience if it was integrated into your television as well. Television viewers are used to having their tvs/cable boxes/dvrs on for very long periods of time and the 360 hardware has shown signs of major issues after extended use. When the general public, not just the gaming community, becomes subject to these problems it would most likely cause steps backwards in public acceptance of this technology.

wait wait wait.. are some you actually insinuating that with microsofts IPTV that it will replace cable boxes from cable providers such as comcast??? That cable providers will buy 360s in mass and distribute those instead of regular cable boxes...you have to be freaking kidding me. People are worried at playing extended game sessions on the machine, let alone have it on pretty much all day when viewing cable television. There is no way in hell that the 360 will be a cable box and viewed up to 10 hours a day viewing television. So you have to pay to play online, now you have to pay for IPTV to view programming, who knows what type of shows are available. At least Sony has the adapter to receive FREE over the air programming, albeit it only works in europe. Jesus man, M$ is really nickle and diming you guys, and you are eating it up.

This gen hasn't been the best for games, last gen consoles are still out there and now there's been talk of the PS6 and Xbox Two for a year or so. Many games this gen will be ported to next gen and the cycle will continue. The re-release of the Neo Geo AES+, games on cartridge for £70 ($95), gaming is going back in time. Gaming has gone pricing mad with the high cost of games, consoles and controllers. The men and women at the top are clueless.

It’s always interesting to hear behind-the-scenes stories like this, especially involving veterans like Shuhei Yoshida and leadership figures like Jim Ryan. That said, there are usually multiple sides to decisions at that level. It could be less about not “listening” and more about differences in long-term vision for PlayStation. Yoshida played a huge role in shaping the brand, so whatever the reason, his impact is undeniable.

If true, and I'm inclined to believe it is, it goes to show that Sony lost their way when they became more western/didn't respect the PlayStation origin story. Andrew House and Jack Tretton did great work, but they also didn't try to fundamentally change the PlayStation DNA. Ryan oversaw the death of Japan Studio and a live service direction.

I miss the first three generations of PlayStation. The way they turned PS3 around, we knew they meant business. We were all worried for a bit there around launch. Eventually from 2008 they started shifting slowly. But since Yoshida was fired, it's never been the same. Still enjoy my PS5 daily. I got a backlog dating back to PS2 lol So I'm fine but new games aren't as appealing anymore.

It seems like we were thrown on to the worst timeline possible where everything is too expensive and the wrong people were put in positions that makes the world a shitty place. We could have had Shu as the head of PS but we got the shitty alternative. Same goes for everyone in power around the world. Doesn’t matter the company or country the majority of us got the shitty picks and the world is declining like never before. I do think PS can come out of this because of their studios, talent and IP but they need someone more in touch with gamers leading things like Shu was. They’re still the best place for console gaming imo but it could be much better than it is especially without the massive live service failures. The rest of the world I have a lot less hope for right now. Hopefully the pendulum swings back towards the good ole days but I’m preparing for the worst.

There's another guy who recently "retired" as CEO of another large gaming company, after doing a dismantling job as lead for well over a decade.

seems legit, the business man, fires the one who has ideas to move the business forward.

Jim Ryan is the reason why we are entering year 6 since the PS5 launch and many of us don't feel like the PS5 has gotten started as yet.

I hope going forward, we will see a return to form.
