Move Probably Won't Replace DualShock for PS4, Says Sony Designer

EscapistMagazine: "While Marks isn't confirming that the PS4 will have regular controllers, he's right when he says that dumping them for motion controls doesn't make any sense. "

And so starts the new console rumors. Just goes to show PS4/Xbox 720 aren't too far off.

Dart895541d ago

This dont' mean nothing he's probably just stating in case some people get worried if move would replace the dualshock.

afterMoth5541d ago

Please for the love of sweet baby Jessica Black keep the traditional controls (dual shock). Don't make Move the primary controller, don't f up the d-pad and make it like the Dreamcast or 360 pad, don't make offsetting analog sticks, humans are symmetrical beings (most of us).

MaxXAttaxX5541d ago

I hope Nintendo does this too.
I don't want to be forced to use motion controls for every game, especially the ones that don't call for it.

Lamarthedancer5541d ago

@NathanExplosion: I'll be surprized if Nintedno don't do this next gen, I mean they can still put focus on motion controlls. It's nice if they had an offical control pad though and give us the option.

BISHOP-BRASIL5541d ago

Ninty does have an official Wii gamepad since Wii released which works for GC games, Wiiware classic tittles and some Wii disc titles. The problem is, as the Wiimote is the standard controller (the one coming bundled), games are being developed around motion, turns out they suck on a gamepad.

The only game I ever seen working right on both motion controller and gamepad is Killzone 3, and that's because Sony pushed it really hard to be flagship title for the Move as a hardcore shooter. We won't see it on Nintendo because they don't care about gamepad and Microsoft shall do it when they figure out how (more likely they'll make a gamepad game that can use Kinect to add stuff and justify it for the hardcore, not a game that can be played on either controller alone). So don't expect this casual and hardcore controllers to pair up well anywhere else, in fact even on PS3 it won't be the norm...

The only way to get both classic and motion controllers really well supported by devs and publishers so they support the controller(s) that work well on the game is to have both bundled with every console sold, but this raises the entry cost.

If they have to choose one, I hope they choose the gamepad, but quite frankly motion controls are more fun in some kind of games, so I expect they don't have to choose.

MintBerryCrunch5541d ago

remove "Probably" and there's your answer

NiKK_4195540d ago (Edited 5540d ago )

they should have a dualshock 4 that is actually 2 moves that can be separated, but together they are like a dualshock with the moves tilted at an angle with something in the middle, so that way everyone will have an option and not have to spend extra money and they will all be packaged with it, it would be the absolute best thing to do, you can choose to use move, but not pay extra, plus its like 3 controllers in 1, but it will definitely have to retain a dualshock feel to it

oh and it would have to be like a move 2.0 with all the extra buttons

off topic: they should also bundle the official bluetooth headsets (probably 3.0 or 4.0 by then) and the PSeye

Move should always be optional its not everyones cup of tea, that being said im a big fan of move.

Soldierone5541d ago

However I would not mind Move incorperated into PS4 by any means. A camera and move like controller.

Move is awesome, but I still prefer sitting back relaxing as i game.

tdogchristy905541d ago

Amen brother! Some of us like our traditional controllers. The day kinect, move, or whatever take over gaming is the day I'm done gaming. Call me old fashioned but I like my standard controls.

Balt 5541d ago

Move would be alright by me if they gave you the option to use Two nav controllers for gaming. That would be so sharp. It'd be much more comfortable. They also need an HD camera. Hell, MS life cams, 720P ones, are only like 39.99 new. C'mon Sony.

Soldierone5541d ago

Totally agree with the HD camera thing. The PS Eye is a bit lacking in the camera department. Its like the early webcams, standard laptop cameras get better quality these days.

I think if they simply upped that, i would have absolutely no complaints. Id even go buy a new camera right now if they released it.

Coming from Sony, the leaders in digital cameras, youd expect something more.

palaeomerus5540d ago

The PSEye works better on a PC than it does on the PS3.

kikizoo5540d ago

And the camera, without the "3D" functionality, work better as a camera than kinect.

Urrakia345541d ago

Mark my words: Motion controllers will NEVER replace traditional controllers.

Mista T5541d ago

but even they have the "classic" controller

metsgaming5541d ago

Was there anyone who thought it would ???

Looks like PlayStation took a hit with Marathon and is now quietly adjusting prices worldwide to recover the losses

andy8531d ago

Lets be honest raising prices doesn't do that when no one's buying it. I imagine the profit it greater selling 10 times more at a lower price

Pergele31d ago

Whatever you say buddy, let's all wear the tinfoil hats.

IceKoldKilla31d ago (Edited 31d ago )

LMFAO Your comment alone says a lot more about you than anything else. When has one game not selling 10 million copies made a company raise the prices of their console? Then Xbox would be costing $5000 by now lol. You remind of the crazy drug addicts on the street rambling on about conspiracies. xD You sure you don't need a hug, buddy?

ChunkyMonk31d ago

One game that Sony payed $200 million for. lol
Also, you sure were quick to get triggered. Maybe your the one who needs a hug?

Eonjay31d ago

If nothing else, we should be united against the real issue here. AI and unnecessary tariffs that are effecting all gamers.

Athlon10132d ago (Edited 32d ago )

The price increases are due to the RAM demand associated with AI and the US-Iran war. You can look to any business news website and local news to see that. Heck, even the 2026 Asus Zenbook Duo I've been eyeing has faced delays and has had a price increase of $400; that laptop has two specs. Asus is doing a staggered release with per-orders for the lower spec now and shipping in May and pre-orders for the higher spec that I'm eyeing starting in June. Basically, all computer manufactures are affected. It'll most likely start affecting smart phones too if it hasn't already. I can't remember the last time any major console maker (Nintendo, Sony, Sega, etc) increased the price of their console mid cycle outside of Microsoft just to make more profit.

S2Killinit31d ago

Its not the war. Its the RAM issue.

jznrpg31d ago

War is causing gas prices to rise. Transport of everything requires gas so the prices of those items go up as well. So it does have an impact

Athlon10131d ago (Edited 31d ago )

The blockage of the Straight of Hormuz due to the US-Iran war has affected raw components used in semi-conductor manufacturing such as bromine, aluminum, and helium. Iran had attacked the liquified natural gas (LNG) plant in Qatar which is a large producer (1/3 globally) of helium which is used in semiconductor etching. So it's the both the war and the RAM crises.

badz14931d ago

Oh no...should I get the Pro now before the price increase?

I dont think that'll ever happen. But i must say back in the day, they were definitely trying because they were more cash rich than their competitors.

CosmicTurtle44d ago

I think MS were and still are the richer company. They tried to acquire Sega back in the day (and considered doing so again more recently), they obviously bought exclusivity to Halo which was originally shown as a Mac title. I don’t think as a company MS can claim the moral high ground here. It’s a wilful lack of self awareness.

Of course Sony would try exactly the same if they had the resources, but when the PS2 dominated the industry was in a much healthier place with an abundance of great third parties.

This has been a depressing generation as far as first party decisions are concerned. The fact we are debating business plans rather than which game is better is a sad reflection of the state of things.

Darkseeker45d ago (Edited 45d ago )

There was Nintendo as well, Sony wouldn't have had a monopoly. In fact, the world would be better today if Xbox never existed in the first place. They pretty much brought all bad practices we have today. We might have gotten all of it either way, but not this early. In term of franchises, I don't think there is anything Microsoft released that would actually be missed if it didn't exist. Even Halo the world wouldn't notice if Halo didn't exist.

S2Killinit44d ago

MS was definitely a bad influence on gaming.

raWfodog45d ago

I think almost everyone will agree that a monopoly is not good for the industry. But that being said, the competition needs to be smart and strategic with their business. Simply buying up publishers and traditional third-party studios just to keep them out of the other companies reach is not a sustainable practice. That goes for all parties so don't think I'm just referring to Xbox.

I'm no business guru by any stretch of the imagination but I firmly believe that the best way to drive consumers to your software and hardware is to invest smart in your first-party studios. Give them full support and guidance in making unique, fun games that are only available to play in your ecosystem and the gamers will come.

Reaper22_45d ago (Edited 45d ago )

But first party studios aren't enough. They only make up a small portion of the industry. Without 3rd party there would be no industry for Microsoft or sony.Developing games take time and money and sometimes you gotta make moves to stay competitive.

raWfodog44d ago

Nah, I never said first-party was enough. I said it’s the ‘best way’ to drive gamers to your platform. 3rd-party is a free-for-all and there’s no guarantee that gamers will use your hardware to play the game. If you want to push your own software and/or hardware you need first-party, or at least exclusive deals with third-party studios.

SimpleDad45d ago

They Shure did a great job... 25 years later Xbox is dead.

Reaper22_45d ago

Then why be so emotional and continue to talk about it. Xbox will never die be ause it stays in so many people's head.

lodossrage45d ago

How can you even see him being "emotional" in that comment?

If anything, you're the emotional one, constantly trying to go at anyone that says anything against Microsoft. So when you call him emotional, it comes off as deflection

Elda44d ago

I own an XBSX & I can say it's becoming irrelevant out of the 3 current consoles.
