After an interview in which he said DirectX was "getting in the way" of using the true power of PC graphics hardware, AMD GPU division worldwide developer relations manager Richard Huddy has re-stated the company's commitment to Microsoft's PC game creation standard.
In an interview with technology news site CRN, Huddy said only a select few developers had expressed to him a desire to go around the current driver standards, including Battlefield developer DICE and Crysis developer Crytech.
“It’s not something most developers want,” he said. “If you held a vote among developers, they would go for DirectX or Open GL, because it’s a great platform.”

Microsoft announced its financial results for Q3 of fiscal year 2026, including an update on its gaming Xbox business and more.
Not looking good. Hopefully Asha Sharma is able to turn Phil’s disaster around.
To me it's still quite remarkable how they can cash-in 5.3bn in revenue in a single quarter, since their hardware is basically dead.

Thanks to the slip-up of an artist working on the title, we now have more evidence that a new Injustice game is in the works.

Spiders: "We're going to cut straight to the chase so you're not left wondering: After a long period without clear answers, we have received confirmation that Spiders is being liquidated.
What does it mean? This means the company as a whole no longer exists. We'll cease our functions immediately. The planned DLC will release via Nacon, and then-- well, that's it.
We're sorry that it's come to this and would like to thank each and every one of you for your support over the years.
If you have any questions or run into issues with your games, please contact Nacon directly as we'll no longer be able to reply."
Of course AMD is gonna continue support of Directx. Not supporting DX would be Foolish and considered suicidal. AMD just made a valid point that DX takes up resources and it would be more efficient to program directly on the GPU instead of having to suck up to the DX "middleman" so to speak.
BUT....DX offers a great easy package that simplifies the process and makes compatibility debugging a lot easier. Programming directly on the GPU would be a nightmare! OpenGl does this somewhat but for the most part is a package itself.
Bottom line i like DX and OpenGL as they are great tools that give Devs all the new tech in a nice package.
Unlike most of the developers in the industry, CRYTEK and DICE have a lot of experienced and talented visual engineers(maybe also EPIC,ID Software and other select few ones) that can pull this off. Remaining %90 of developers depend on DirectX to do all the coding work for them.
What Microsoft needs to do is make DirectX work like a ghost, without crippling real performance of the hardware. Even DX11 cant do this yet.
I just think windows xp needs to die so we can move on from dx9. Vista failing really held things back since windows xp doesn't support anything beyond dx9. Battlefield 3 is looking nice, and just cause 2 shows how dropping dx9 can have great results.
And let consumers catch up. They can just improve on their current crops. Make them more power effiecient, smaller, less heat. They can get the prices down, and then devs will have something to work with. Just imagine if the 590 and 6990 were 150-200. Everyone would grab one. Then devs could focus on their games working on those cards.
Too many cards lately. I cant remember this many cards coming out so fast. On the Nvidia side its like the 8 series was just last month. I remember vividly how everyone was squawking over the 8800. But that was so long ago.
Hardware isn't being used to its full potential.
