What a terrible question. Yes, we do. We need more fun non-serious games to lighten the mood in a pretty dull, stale and uncreative genre. Duke Nukem has always been a series that on one hand is completely ludicrous, and so bad that it's just awesome, or solid shooters that are decent solid titles by their own rights. These games always have me grinning from beginning to end. His male chauvinism, his machismo, adolescent, cheesy and sexist nature and one liners make it impossible to miss out on. It will also serve as a nice throwback to the 90's where games weren't so diplomatic and full of complete tossers and petty arguing like it is now. Duke Nukem is what gaming needs to be reminded of the whole purpose of the medium - to have FUN. The only other series to have really done this to me recently is Saints Row. Not perfect titles, but so damn fun and full of things to do, it's hard not to like.

Exactly. Too many games try to hard to be serious and 'affect the gamer emotionally' etc. They usually end up with a mediocre story that's more laughable than anything.

Gears of War 2 comes to mind. If Epic had just skipped out on the horrible manuscript and narrative, which doesn't at all fit in with what's going on around you, and just let the events speak more for themselves it would have been a much more immersive experience.

I hope Gears 3 has a much 'flatter' story that revolves around having big guns and sawing aliens in half. That way I can take it for what it is.

Couldn't agree more with what you wrote about having FUN. Some devs seem to forget that in the end that's what's keeps us playing the games. Whenever it stops being fun in some shape or form we put the game down.

Looking forward to it damn much.

May is heaven this year, The Witcher 2 and then this

Do we really need this kind of opinion-stupid question article in N4g?

mightyboot5542d ago (Edited 5542d ago )

@ThatEnglishDude exacly and most games that are actually more fun to play usually have average scores because the media just want tecnichal achivements instead by just wanting a fun experience.

God damn Megadeth Duke Nukem anthem is the best.

Snookies121344d ago

It is pretty amazing, I remember being so hyped that they covered the Duke theme back when it happened haha. I still quite enjoyed Forever though personally.

It is great, you should check out Eric Calderone - Duke Nukem meets metal .. thats proper as well

"so wrong yet so right"

Only a few will know what Im talking about lol :D

porkChop1386d ago

Wow, that advanced lighting makes a huge difference to the visuals. I get that Gearbox tried to slap everything together and release a finished product. But it seems like they cut out a lot of content that would have made the experience more enjoyable. That's a shame.

ZycoFox1385d ago

Nerfed due to consoles.. and not the first time it has happened.

-Foxtrot1386d ago

Kind of amazing the difference a lighting engine makes

ZycoFox1385d ago

Same, the AI could be pretty dumb but the bosses were fun. I thought the levels (mostly) got better later in the game too.

XiNatsuDragnel1386d ago

Devs nerf a game man best quote I've ever heard.
