Crysis 2 plagued by launch day issues

Crysis 2 has launched today, but PC users are registering a ton of complaints, even with a patch being released on day one.

Some of the issues that PC users are angry about:

* Their serial registry codes are already “in use”
* The game asks for a serial code every time a player wants to engage in multiplayer, and often ends up with the problem above
* Preorder bonus codes won’t work
* The game won’t load
* The lack of PC graphic options
* The lack of DirectX 11 support

Looks like PC gets shunned again when a dev decides to port a console game. They should have kept this on PC only.

thereapersson5543d ago

And if you think about how well the PC community has supported Crytek up to this point, it's even more sad.

Active Reload5543d ago

Didn't you guys pirate the game when it leaked?

gillri5543d ago

nope cause it wouldnt have sold nowhere nearly enough and then in this economic climate and the required invesment in advanced hardware could have put the company in danger of going under

I doubt a PC only release would fgo much further even than covering the overheads

havent you seen the amount of devs going bankrupt in the past few years?

that a very selfish attitude, surely you would be happier that more people get a greater choice now its more widely available

Substance1015543d ago

Lol think you have memory or are plain ignorant of facts.

Crysis 1 sold 3.5million as of may 2010, is that too hard to remember?

ct035543d ago

In danger of going under? Then why didn't Crytek go under when they released Far Cry? Or Crysis? Or Crysis Warhead? These were all PC exclusive.

Vherostar5543d ago

I agree this should have stayed PC only and it would have stayed better however money talks and releasing on consoles opens a lot more avenues.

Bear_Grylls5543d ago (Edited 5543d ago )

You know what I love

When the new Xbox/PS3 comes in the "servers" (if you can call them that lol) will be shut down killing the game.

10 years from now on PC, as long as someone is running a server the game is still alive online.

That's what I love about all the console kiddies now days. New Xbox/PS3 hits and you will never be able to play any of the COD games form this gen anywhere bar the PC! Or any other online console game for that matter. And yet they somehow defend this shitty system forced on them by MS/Sony to the bitter end and call us PC elitists.

10 years from now I will still be able to log on COD, Crysis etc. and still play online.

all you console players practically RENT YOUR ONLINE GAMES FROM MICROSOFT AND SONY until they are done sucking your money and switch them off!

Invest your money wisely and get a gaming PC.

surely people are not suprised by this!.
Said it before and will say it again! make it for the PC first, then port to console!, everyones happy! dumbnut Dev`s!

awesomeperson5543d ago

If I'm not mistaken, as PC's can run higher end than consoles, wouldn't the game then not run on consoles?

Sorry if I'm wrong, don't know much about porting.

Dark_king5543d ago

Its easier to scale back then forwards. He is right

dannybohy5543d ago

The game should be made for the PC then ported to Console. Not developed for the console and backward ported to PC as is the trend these days, and hence all the buggy, Dumbed down, badly ported PC games these days!. i dont remember all these problems with COD4! PC was good, and the console gamers got a good game too!

Megaton5543d ago

Crytek's 180 on the PC community that made them what they are today is pretty damn pathetic.

Tachyon_Nova5543d ago

Once again its the Fallout fan bagging Crytek. Lets go back to Fallout. Where were its origins? Firmly rooted on the PC. Yet recent games in the series have been graphically horrible (barely better than console versions), poorly supported, recieved add ons later than the 360 etc.

Vherostar5543d ago

With the HD textures mod fallout is LUSH on PC so get your facts right. As PC has a massive modding community the 360 could only dream of and the PS3 has the ability to do (look at UT III)

Megaton5543d ago (Edited 5543d ago )

ROFL, this guy again. Tracking me, bro? Maximum butthurt?

I didn't realize Fallout games had been graphical benchmarks in the past. Clearly Fallout 3 and NV tarnished the prestigious graphical pedigree of Fallout 1 and 2.

You assume that I ride Bethesda's nuts just because I like Fallout 3. I'm not like you. I don't ignore reality because I happen to really love a particular game/series. I call it like I see it. I bash Bethesda more than most people who hate their games. Mainly for their HORRIBLE Gamebryo engine and 360 deals made for a game that, yes, should be PC-first.

Still, even with Bethesda's failures, Fallout 3 has an incredible mod community on PC. It remains to be seen whether or not Crytek will make Crysis 2 as open as the original.

PC & PS3 Versions were always gonna get fucked over. Money talks, bullshit walks.

MadMax5543d ago (Edited 5543d ago )

I hate to say it, but it kinda serves some of you arrogant, closeminded pc gamers right! After all the console bashing, ripping on the PS3 and 360 versions and look what happens! lol, comedy! I guess Crysis 2 really does run better on the PC!

GamerPS3605543d ago (Edited 5543d ago )

Console is still piece of crap compare to PC. Games on PC from last century looks better than crysis on console. :)
oh great, what did I just say?
... may be truth. Goodbye to my bubbles :D

i gave you some bubble love. ..

I'm still learning how to look for the differences. At first I was focusing on shadows for some reason but I don't think that changes much, is it reflections that change?

rashada072529d ago (Edited 2529d ago )

It is supposed to be simulating how light actually works- so yes if light is reflecting off a surface accurately it should show reflection or an effect that matches what you are looking at in the environment. Next time you play a game look at a puddle of water there may be just a "baked" in texture that if you aren't paying attention seems like it is reflecting but it isn't. I would say though if the light is reflecting more accurately I would think that would give more accurate shadows as well.
I am still not 100% sold on it- it looks okay but I can't get over the hardware price jump for better reflections..

Taz X142529d ago

While games won't look immensely better, it opens up more possibilities overall. Understandably, the price jump is huge. But, that can be said for being at the forefront for any new technology. I'm currently using a 2080ti and while I've played a few games that enable it, the gpu also plays everything else incredibly well so it's not like you're buying this tech for ONLY that option. Enthusiasts will pay top dollar to check out the newest things, but this will eventually become an everyday consumer and by then they'll have optimized and become a lot cheaper.

warriorcase2528d ago

Ray/path tracing can be used how the developer wants it to be. Tracing can be used to calculate shadows/lighting, reflection and even audio, where audio waves are calculated on the bounce off material types to simulate enviroment and echos accuratly.

Should also keep in mind that this ray/path tracing system is different and less accurate option from Nvidias RTX branded type. McFly's is a reshade that layers over the top of the game and therefor the quality will vary drastically. For example you can see nice reflection in the Star Wars demo here but it then introduces colour clipping with the light saber. On a video of GTA 5 for example it was incorrectly projecting a reflection of a red car onto the road which caused a very faint red glow on the ground around the car.

If you want to see a good example of a game developed with ray tracing reflection and lighting in mind then you could look up the youtube video of "Control - Exclusive E3 RTX GAMEPLAY Trailer".

DigitallyAfflicted2529d ago

It supposed to add more realistic light Not actually more light effects and explosions

traumadisaster2529d ago

I hate to say it but I’m fine with fake lights, shadows, reflections. I just kind of like the effect, it’s also great it saves resources for other things.

I’ve been checking out some original Xbox games on x360/x1x and the engine has fake light streaming in through a stained glass window, and I love it even though I know it’s not real time lighting. Heck it even shifts as I move about.

I’ve about convinced my self rt and hdr just doesn’t work for me. Before hdr I would even complain damn why are the headlights killing me they are so bright.

I notice most frame rate, then jaggies, then resolution; with the last two interchangeable depending.

Other day watched an enthusiast rave over 4k and the poor guy was in 1080p. I played the same game the night before and thought wow this is clean, I wonder if it’s 4k, but knew differently and I thought wow even resolution is not always important. The next day he apologized and was surprised he could be fooled.

RaidenBlack2529d ago

EA should have released the Crysis Trilogy Remaster for this gen.

FGHFGHFGH2524d ago

How come the lightsabers don't give off any light? Even in the EA star wars game the guy uses it to light up a dark cave. I guess if it is using frostbite it will support rtx cards.
