Thunderbolt: Killzone 3 Review

Thunderbolt writes "Designers of futuristic first-person shooters are slowly running out of inspiration. It’s a sad state of affairs, and the creators of Killzone 3 know it all too clearly."

hits,hits,hits,hits....move along people nothing to see here.

Anon19745531d ago

If that's the case, this is the best 5/10 game I've ever played.

pangitkqb5531d ago (Edited 5531d ago )

Killzone 3 is AWESOME and Thunderboltgames.com just made the list of game sites whose opinion I simply can't trust.

I mean...this"review" is rife with the cliche attacks that have been popular to aim at Killzone since the first installment. It goes on and on about KZ3's lack of creativity...and is arguably the least unique review I've seen of the game.

This "review" is a BAD CHECKLIST OF LONG CLICHE KILLZONE ATTACKS:

1)The plot is bad
2)The characters swear too much
3)It's not original
4)The characters are shallow...
5)Space Nazi's
6)It doesn't have the gameplay "weight" of KZ2
7) Blah blah blah....

This is the worst I've seen yet. The largest amalgamation I've yet seen of long ago cliche attacks.

Not only does this review say nothing new, I would say it "ticks boxes and has been too quick to shed its defining credentials."

solideagle15531d ago

everyone knows the reason of this article...move along people. biasness as its maximum height.

thanks

360degrees5531d ago

I must admit that although a score of 5 out of 10 may shock and surprise some certain fans of this franchise, we must respect their opinion and realize that they are just as much entitled to their own as we are.... Personally from my thorough play through of both the single player and multilayer campaign of this Killzone iteration, I would score it a 7 out of 10...possibly 7.5 if they can adjust the balancing issues with the sniper class and several other glaring issues...overall not an abysmal game, but also not to be confused with the top tier of other FPS that are currently on the market

jimineyscrickets5531d ago (Edited 5531d ago )

@ 360degrees

There is a difference between respecting anothers right to have an opinion and respecting the opinion itself.

Thunderboltgaming can have any opinion they want and I fully support that. I am then free to agree or, as is the case with this review, think it's the worst evaluation of a game I've seen in a long time.

This opinion sucks.

HammockGames5531d ago (Edited 5531d ago )

Wow. There's being desperate for hits, and then there's this.

Note to self: Never click a link to thunderboltgames (blacklisted)

Edit: @ Jiminey - well said my friend, well said. Some opinions are too ridiculous to demand respect, and this is one of them.

Achemki5531d ago

If people aren't even gonna look at the multiplayer in multiplayer-centric games like this, which Thunderbolt didn't, then don't bother reviewing the game at all. Seriously. Just call in sick.

Three quarters of the article is bitching about story. Dude ignores the online all together which the story has no impact on at all. Convenient? Or is the guy just a bias moron? I say both. Who the hell gives a final score by only reviewing half a game?!

nycredude5531d ago

360 degrees

I don't have to respect shit! WTF is this site that I "have' to respect their "review", NOT opinion?

thekiddfran5531d ago

yeah it's pretty bad to be honest. I mean by just taking graphics of the game into account you would give it at least a six. The multiplayer is wonderfully addicting and the levels are varied and beautifull to behold.

specialguest5531d ago (Edited 5531d ago )

Come on everybody, fist pump with me! Hits, hits, hits, hits, hits! Everbody! Hits, hits, hits, hits, hits, hits!

Redlogic5531d ago (Edited 5531d ago )

Really Thunderbolt, Homefront is better than Killzone 3?!? Get the he11 out here with that $hit.

DelbertGrady5531d ago (Edited 5531d ago )

Not the SP but the MP is most likely in the same league.

@thekiddfran - I've read everywhere that it has some severe balancing issues with the infiltrator class being way overpowered. Homefront doesn't have those issues, and also has vehicles, large maps and gameplay that rewards teamwork. A different beast then that of simpleton FPS games like Killzone and COD.

thekiddfran5531d ago

How would you know? You havn't played killzone mp.

KrystofKage15531d ago

I have both and I have to say Killzone 3 has the WORST maps of any shooter I've ever played(except for the retro maps).

Homefront lacks a lot of polish, but the online gameplay is fun.

Between the two I find myself playing Homefront MP a lot more. But the two cannot really be compared in terms of gameplay. They are both in a league of their own.

Wh15ky5531d ago (Edited 5531d ago )

@DelbertGrady

"I've read everywhere that"...

Had to stop reading there DelbertGrady, if you don't have personal experience then your personal opinion doesn't mean squat.

I've got to say, I hate how every low rated review article for Killzone 3 gets so many comments. This is the first and last time I'm commenting in one of these childish, attention seeking bullsh*t review/articles.

5 out of 10 , huh ?

That site gave Halo 3 and Halo Reach 10's , and even Halo 3 ODST a 9 , WOW-WEE-WOW-WOW. They even gave Black Ops a 9.

They even seem to think that there are "masters of the genre" , lol. There's something wrong with this industry when a game like Killzone 3 can't even get a 7 out of 10 at least.

tonywood5531d ago

Man, I see this all the time...first America builds something up, only to later tear it all down. (That's how our society rolls!)

People hated on Bill Gates and his Xbox idea, while jocking Sony and Nintendo. (rightfully so, as they have delivered years of outstanding gaming.) NOW...somehow Sony is the Evil Empire and MS is King. Yea, being a US product is the main root of this "Homer" bias opinion.

360 games are great, but so are Sony's. Stick with your PS library and know that the exclusive numbers don't lie. I'll just leave it at that....cause I do respect all gaming options. Dumb-dumbs just want hits, so they use "console War" junk rather than good game/bad game facts.

mephish5531d ago

I know Killzone 3 isn't the best game of all time, but it sure was a fun SP Campaign. IMO much more memorable then most FPS out there. and much more intense then any FPS i can think of.

however it does have some faults... some of the vehicle scene were really dumb (mainly the Snow Saw thing.) which just felt so out of place,, just all of sudden you were in this vehicle...

as well as the very last level in the SpaceShip... was alright but kinda a lack luster end level IMO.

however i thought the story was good.. for a FPS (i like to compare FPS stories to Action films) and well this isn't the best story out there, its just as good as the vast majority of FPS and Action films.

All in all a very solid FPS, 8/10

Dogs_PinoyPOOD5529d ago

I'd give Killzone 3 a 9.5 the only bad thing was the storyline but everything is outstanding

Corrwin5531d ago

Luls, nice.

Killzone 3 - 5/10
Homefront - 6/10
Bulletstorm - 8/10

I thought they might actually be reviewing on a 1-10 scale, but it looks like they only do that when it suits them.

There's too many games to choose from

No Metal geat solid 1,2,3,4?
No Resident evil?
No Silent hill?
No Midnight club 3?
No NfS Underground 2?
No Final Fantasy?
No Burnout 3?
No Dragon quest 8?
No Days gone?
No Ace combat?
No Tekken/Soul calibur?......
just from the top of my head

PS1 era was full of great RPGs, PS2 was racing generation i would pick top 200 and even that would be just a fraction.

FinalFantasyFanatic534d ago

30 is way too low over the entire history of Playstation, I just wouldn't be able to narrow it down that much, I would pick 100 at least.

Storm23534d ago

Yeah...really odd list. I get that it is personal preference and I love most of the games listed, but my list would definitely be different. I agree though, it would be incredibly difficult to come up with just 30.

lockedongamer1534d ago (Edited 534d ago )

I only picked first-party titles. Otherwise, I agree!

EDIT: Except for Days Gone, I don't get the love for it but you do you!

Chocoburger525d ago

I didn't like Days Gone either, it doesn't deserve to be on any best of list.

Up there with the top tier in the industry. Love Guerrilla Games - Horizon Burning Shores is simply STUNNING.

1Victor1100d ago

Can’t wait for their next franchise

SullysCigar1100d ago

Same. They nailed it with Horizon. The trouble is I also want a new Killzone! Can't I just have it all?!

jznrpg1100d ago

I’m with you I want Horizon 3 , Killzone and new IPs

badz1491100d ago

I have yet to play Burning Shores as I just started Forbidden West (bought at launch, just unwrapped last weekend LOL) and playing on PS5.

man...I still can't believe the graphics especially now I'm playing it on my LG OLED. that graphics and with stable performance backing it up, GG really is the master of their craft!

Vengeance11381100d ago

32.7M sales in the Horizon franchise! With 8.4M coming from Forbidden West alone! Truly a hugely successful game and franchise as a whole. Looking forward to Horizon III

Shane Kim1100d ago

That's kind of a huge drop though. It's only been two games.

VersusDMC1100d ago

One year after realease HZD sold 7.6 million.

https://www.noobfeed.com/ne...

So not a drop off.

Unless you're saying a HFW should have sold as much now as HZD sold in 5 years?

Vengeance11381100d ago

It's been 3 games, this includes Call of the Mountain. Also no, its a great improvement over HZD.

solideagle1100d ago

lol you are comparing:

HZD: 28 February 2017 - May 2023 (6 years+)

HFW: 18 February 2022 - May 2023 (1 year+)

We will see if it surpass original number.

Phoenix761100d ago

@shane, 2 full main games, 2 DLC add ons, 1 VR spin off game, oh and a an official LEGO set.
Not too bad for an ip that's only been on market for 6 years

REDGUM1100d ago

Wow, very impressive. I didn't know the numbers were so high for Forbidden West. Still playing through it myself

thesoftware7301100d ago (Edited 1100d ago )

Yooo, when I first saw that Killzone 1 footage at E3, my friends my brothers and I were like, Holy shit! When it came out, it didn't look exactly like it, but we sunk so many hours into 1 & 2.

I even liked Killzone: SF, it was a spectacle to look at, and even today it looks good. I hope they make a new one. Can you imagine how that will look, and they can get some modern FPS pointers from Bungie.

blacktiger1100d ago

thank you fps lover, I'm with you

talocaca1100d ago

Such a wonderful studio. They deserve all their success.

The Decima Engine is absolute 🔥 I'm just mad they have abandoned Killzone.

OzzY-waZZy1100d ago (Edited 1100d ago )

Kinda wish they move on from Horizon tbh.

lukasmain1100d ago

They are probably working on mutiple projects. One of them is Horizon 3, but another is a multiplaer game and probably somehting else.

Imalwaysright1100d ago

There were rumours that they were working on a Socom reboot.

Killzone 3 is playable with mouse & keyboard on PC via RPCS3 & KAMI

DSOGaming writes: "While Sony does not plan to release Killzone 3 on the PC, Yahfz shared a video that gives us a glimpse at what such a PC version could look like."

Still looks secure 2 gens later... one of my favorite ps3 moments. With 3D and move the game is on another level

MadLad1851d ago

PC almost always ends up the best place to play games, even if it takes a while.

What would you rather play decades down the line? A game at a fixed resolution and frame, considering you have a working disc, and the hardware?
Or run it on an emulator that can update the experience all around, and let you use whatever control input you prefer?

If you insist on the former, it's really only for the sake of nostalgia.

Applejack1851d ago

I disagree. The main draw for consoles has always be the simplicity of just putting the disc in / downloading it and playing without worrying about anything else. The average person just wouldn’t want to deal with emulation even though it’s very important for preservation.

Terry_B1851d ago

Even emulators are super simple to use.

jukins1851d ago

Youre getting flak because people on here thibk of themselves as pc wizards. But honestly most poeple try and go get emulators and romz they end up with malware.. yes theyre "easy" if you know the basics but alot of people dont. That said the fact that its taken nearly 20 years to get a sustantially better experience for ps3 games than on its native system shows the complexity of getting bc to work. Sony, if they have any intention, should just invest in a vastly better psnow experience.

1851d ago
Vegamyster1851d ago

jukins

Most people who emulate don't get malware, you'd have to be going to some weird sites for that to happen, heck years ago people were getting sketchier ad's resulting in malware warning on this site if you didn't have a ad-blocker lol.

SinkingSage1851d ago

Can't get malware if you legally dump your own games, which you should.

Rachel_Alucard1851d ago (Edited 1851d ago )

That's fine if that's the main draw, but it doesn't make it a better experience, just a preference. Having the freedom to do the things you can do on PC is what the appeal of PC is. Buying a game on PC means you never have to worry about the console makers just deciding the next hardware shouldn't support the generation anymore, which means everything you bought is stuck on that hardware instead of moving up with everything else. Nintendo uses this tactic to keep reselling the same games over and over at inflated prices. Sony cut all previous gens off the PS4 and sold it back to people in a poor attempt with PSnow. While the PS5 supports PS4 games, that may not be the case in the next gen after this. No to mention shutting off all the previous stores and updates completely. Even MS stopped making new BC titles at some point, so now there's a big list with 17 pages of titles that are not playable on Xbone and are just trapped on older gen. That's not a problem on PC, the reverse happens where you only have to worry if your hardware can play the newest releases at ultra with no issue.

AzubuFrost1851d ago

Shhh don't say that aloud! You're going to trigger a lot of console infidels here.

Shane Kim1851d ago

I rather play it when it's available then wait 10 years.

MadLad1850d ago

Did you purposely miss the entire point of my post?

Inverno1851d ago

Well that's the beauty of still owning a retro console tho. Those who usually complain about emulation are just being blindly loyal to a company. Emulation is great for many reason, but if I still owned the console then I disagree nothing beats plugging it back in and going down a nostalgia trip

The RPCS3 devs are doing great work. And Kami works nicely with it too it seems.
Very neat.

Magatsuhi1851d ago

Been playing mgo on pc with mouse. It's not perfect but I can make it work.

Binarycode1851d ago

2 is the better game.

A Remake would be good. 60fps 2-4k

Omar3li1851d ago

60fps is peasant for FPS games now
