In what seems to be a norm these days, yet another player has been banned from Dragon Age 2 and it’s DLC.

And this is why having to register an online pass is going to bite everyone in the butt.

MitchGE5527d ago (Edited 5527d ago )

Aside from the online pass...

"Unlike the poster before me i did not call EA the devil or insult EA or Bioware in any way. In fact I did insult other people who were insulting members of Bioware (The guy [Towering Fury] for wishing death on David Gaider and another poster who was typing racial remarks towards Stanley Woo)."

So he got banned from sticking up for BioWare? Assuming there's not more to this story: EA, you disgust me.

Quagmire5527d ago

Whats the online pass for? Las time I checked, DA was a SP game only.

MitchGE5527d ago (Edited 5527d ago )

Online also means DLC and updates, not just multiplayer. Gotta be online to download them right?

jadenkorri5527d ago

yeah, this is why digital dls fail for consumers, not only if you get your account banned, but you lose access to all your games, whats gonna happen when we all use steam (as an example) and we say something and get our whole account banned losing access to all our games. This is why I personally like a physical copy of anything whether its a movie or a game.

No_Pantaloons5527d ago

well said jadenkorri

It's the part that needs repeating, you don't "OWN" anything you buy with cloud gaming or digital account dls. You're in their pocket so to speak, its the number one reason for some (like us) to BUY physical copies.

Anon19745526d ago

@ No_Pantaloons. But buying physical copies still doesn't mean you "own" the software. You don't. Break the conditions of using that software and companies can still prohibit you from using that software - or simply sue you for breaking the terms of the license agreement. Not like that's likely to happen unless you're caught trying to hack or reverse engineer or something similar.

Again, these jokers - who knows if there's any truth to it. It's become fashionable to hate Bioware for some unexplained reason suddenly. EA said they banned him due to the "severity and number of violations". Clearly, he's not telling the full truth. You don't get banned for sticking up for Bioware.

Just play your damn games and stop trolling the forums of the companies responsible for making your games and you have nothing to worry about.

HolyOrangeCows5526d ago

Well....what the heck did he say to the guy?

Well, whatever it was, it does NOT justify EA PERMABANNING people from accessing content they PAID for.

+1 Well said for jadenkorri
Physical copies FTW.

Yup. Only thing I'm not gonna like about getting Crysis 2.

Shackdaddy8365527d ago

Crysis 2 doesn't have one. They said they didn't trust that system when it was offered to them during development (it was in its early stages then).

hazelamy5526d ago

then don't buy it, buy a game from a publisher that actually cares about its customers, don't keep rewarding these douchebags.

remember, they need us a hell of a lot more than we need them.

i just wish people would remember that when they say they don't like the publisher but they have to buy their game, because, you don't.
you have the power here, keep your money, spend it with somebody more deserving of it, somebody who isn't going to screw you over to make a few more dollars, don't perpetuate the culture of greed in this industry.

support an industry that sees you as nothing more than a resource to be exploited or an industry that sees you as a valued customer.
it's your choice.

BubbleSniper5527d ago (Edited 5527d ago )

hope we find out WHY they bann him

it troubling to see community MOD/Manager go this route for absolutely nothing!!

Sarick5527d ago

I saying this when they started using the online parts and creating protected/locked saves.

They don't want the users to have control of the content they paid for.

They don't want users to have control of the content they create. (IE: you make a character it's not yours, the experience and credits you earn are still owned by the developer.) If they so choose they can erase it on a whim even if it offers no online advantages over other players.

This is the bad side of locked down systems. Everything you do or play is or can be recorded, controlled or denied access because online account linking.

I assume sometime in the near future a company will actually make a product that can have difficulty levels altered as a form of punishment for various reasons. You're kicking rear on a game doing really well on points or saying stuff the dev decides to jack your difficultly level and set you back a few ego levels.

What's basically happening is the games are becoming more controlled then in the past where you could put in a game and play it as it was when you bought it. Now if there is a simple overlooked glitch it gets patched etc.

Christopher5527d ago

***And this is why having to register an online pass is going to bite everyone in the butt.***

Too bad it's not going to go anywhere. It's their way of combating piracy.

As far as being banned... it's hard for me to feel sympathy. It takes a good amount of effort to get banned on any major site, including N4G here. Am I supposed to feel sorry for someone who spent their time being disruptive and likely not at all constructive?

Also, remember, this is only half of the story. I'll be waiting to see what BioWare has to say about this.

Side Note: If he's already registered DA2... can't he play it? He can't download anymore DLC, but he should be able to play it. Internet connection is not required for playing it IIRC, so why would a valid login confirmation?

kraze075527d ago (Edited 5527d ago )

" It takes a good amount of effort to get banned on any major site, including N4G here."

It's easy as hell to get banned off the Bioware Social Forums. It's as if some of the mods on the forums have never heard of constructive criticism. Dont really know the details but Im guessing EA is not different.

cyborg5527d ago

worse than last time since this is a permanent ban

Solans Scott5527d ago

This is what the world is coming to? It's one thing to be banned from the forums, but to be restricted from accessing content you purchased is another thing. I guess I won't be linking my games to my account.

Silentscope5527d ago

EA is the Devil. Yeah I said it, what're you gonna do about it EA?

thekiddfran5527d ago

What happened to activision being the devil?

rdgneoz35527d ago

Can't we all just get along and say they're both the devil?

DaBadGuy5527d ago

Activision is the devil and EA is Damien Thorne, not quite there yet but on their way.

thekiddfran5527d ago

Haha I agree, they are the devil incarnate!!

Dragon Age Lead Says Including World State Reactivity Felt Like It Was "Irrelevant Or Not Enough"

Dragon Age 2 set the precedent that the series would always carry our choices over, but was it worth it?

If the choices won't matter, why bother? Bioware works so hard at giving meaningful choices but rarely if ever carrying out the impact of such choices to the end.

EA Made Dragon Age and Mass Effect DLC Free On PC By Retiring The BioWare Points System

Immersed Gamer writes: "In order to replace the oppressive BioWare Points system, EA is making a large portion of the Mass Effect and Dragon Age DLC catalogs free for PC users.

For those of you blissfully unaware, EA and BioWare employed a payment system called BioWare Points on PC to pay for DLCs for titles like Mass Effect and Dragon Age. While PC gamers have been struggling with BioWare point’s unfair conversion rates and extremely scarce and cost-detrimental sales.

Console players have been allowed to purchase content in pieces through the appropriate Sony and Microsoft shops. For real money, and not BioWare monopoly bucks. In turn, console players missed out on some DLC content, such as Mass Effect 2 pre-order bonuses that have been repackaged into a DLC pack."

Great response to Ubisoft and their disgusting behavior. Ubisoft decide to take away DLC from people who paid for it, while EA give it for free to everyone when they realize their system sucks. Who would have thought that EA of all companies would be showing Ubisoft how it should be done (even if this is EA fixing their own mistakes as well).

Mobis-New-Nest1390d ago

What goes around comes around and I promise you, Ubisoft will see their actions blow back on them when their diminishing sales numbers and stock taking a hit downward. That's the only way a company learns when they decide to be reactive instead of proactive.

All BioWare Games Ranked from Worst to Best

BLG writes: "There was a time that BioWare games were the biggest deal in gaming. The Canadian developer’s legacy of all-time classics is well known. Mass Effect, Knights of the Old Republic, and Baldur’s Gate are some of the biggest names in gaming.

While BioWare’s quality has fallen off lately, there’s no denying the quality of titles in their portfolio. That’s why we’re going to dive in and rank every BioWare game from worst to best. By every, I do mean every BioWare game, even the ones you completely forgot about!"

autobotdan1549d ago

Wow to think at one point in their history they made a Sonic the Hedgehog game..crazy

chicken_in_the_corn1549d ago

Anthem is crazy underrated. I really enjoyed it. ME1 is Bioware's best imo

I actually put quite a bit of hours into Anthem but i dont think its underrated. It was a huge mess, server issues, gameplay issues, crashes, no endgame loop, too few different enemies, uninteresting gear. too few dungeons.

It for sure had potential and if they could have managed to keep the same gameplay of the classes but without the rest of the issues, this game could have been huge, but in the state in which it launched it was such a letdown. They partly fixed some of the issues, but it took too long. A grinding game like this needs to hook players from day 1.
