Under the hood, a matchmaking system makes it easy to group up, stick together, and find the matches you want, while dedicated servers are a welcome bonus that help ensure smooth games. All told, the online component has all the right ingredients, and it manages to mix them into a mighty tasty meal. Multiplayer rescues the abrupt campaign from a rent-it-and-forget-it fate, although OXM can’t help but be left a bit disappointed. They love Homefront’s fight-for-America premise — it’s rife with fascinating gameplay possibilities. But in this freshman franchise effort, that potential is never quite realized on the screen.

Jack writes: "Back in March 2011, the first-person action shooter Homefront arrived on the Xbox 360 from THQ, along with a storm of publicity which included a really cool live-action trailer"

Last week game dev Steve Thornton took to Twitter to ask: fellow devs, have you ever slipped something into a game you're working on that's just for you? The replies are well worth a read.

Deep Silver and Humble Bundle are currently offering the first Homefront game for free. This offer will last for the next 48 hours, so be sure to visit its Humble Bundle page in order to acquire your free copy.
get it! the single player is excellent and intense and the MP is pretty fun, too.
Ehh, PS4 needs these deals too, or consoles in general we always get discounts rarely free stuff that's REALLY free (games with gold / psplus isn't free)
I could have SWORN this article said "9/10" earlier...
just got this game.
i think its discusting the fact this kind of quality game can be sold.
graphics are so poor it hurts my eyes.
audio is awfull too.
the game comes sealed due to it having a code inside,so now i cant take it back, its wrong, there should be some policy to be able to take games back that are so poor
I picked this game up today and so far it seems a good game but could of been alot better. It reminds me alittle of cod but better but not up the the nights of MoH and Battlefeild.
The graphics look abit dated but I think if enough people buy the game thq will make another and have a foot in the door to make the game how they wanted to as to me they wanted to make a cod copy but add there own bits to it and they have done this but not gone over the top with it which is what has let the game down abit.
The problem I have with the game is not necessarily the graphics.....well it is in a way....its the art style of the game, it just looks cartoonish and I cannot take the game seriously for the fact that even the knife kill animation is the same cartoonish thrust as COD, the blood looks like strawberry jam (jelly for the americans) and when enemies ragdoll 20 ft in the air from a grenade i just laugh my ass off.
If this game had a more realistic art style and more realistic gameplay, cut out the clownish COD gunplay and clownish melee and general clownish physics I could have taken the story a bit more serious and gotten a bit more immersed in it.
Also you form little emotional connection with the characters since this game claimed Half Life 2 to be one of its big influences but theres nothing immersing about walking around pressing X for some scripted dialouge which is pretty poorly voice acted I might add. If the characters had better lines and were acted better and we were put in situations were we could decide their fate or were we had more intense encounters with them like arguments and also if the main character had a face and some dialogue and actually had a say in the matters it probably would have been more immersive. maybe if you could have made in game choices?
Only thing that feels slightly unique is the setting of america being invaded but we had that with russians in MW2, infact im pretty sure the soilders even look the same.
All in all the single player was very lackluster and was slow to start and did heat up a bit at the end, I mean didnt we hear interviews about having the feeling that "your constantly outgunned and on the run" and eliminating that feel of being "some super soilder who cuts his way through enemies."
Well it didnt deliver on an of those fronts, essentially MW2 with worse graphics set in a post apocalyptic suburbia.
but saying that the Multiplayer is actually really pretty fun and has some really nice mechanics other devs should really look at but the game still lacks that immersion quality but is still very fun.
Id give the single player 4/10
Multiplayer 7 or 8/10
