PS3 in Trouble?

The PS3 might be in even more trouble and IGN went to find out why!

The Real Deal7189d ago

Wow. Just what I told eveyone. Initially they wanted to ship 6 million by May. Now it looks like they will be lucky to ship 3 million. WOW. Thats a big blow. The less Ps3's in the stores and the more next gen games exclusive or timed exclusive for the 360 is going to really hurt SONY. All because they wanted to push their formatt onto consumers. WOW...By the time ps3 ships 3 million there will be 13 to 15 million 360's shipped. And Gears of War, Halo 3, Mass Effect, and much much more.

shoota337189d ago

It is just unbelievable how much of an xbox fanboy you really are.

Gametime, I don't see anything wrong with what he wrote. An Analyst wrote this, it's not like he made the thing up. Think about it, if sony loses atleast $200 per console and mulitply that by 6 million consoles sold be march 2006 then thats a $1.2 billion dollar hole (in 1 quarter)for sony just to make the systems. This does not include assembly, wages to workers, advertising and others cost to get the system to retailers.

I fully see sony scaling back the ps3 productions until they can get the costs down. Don't worry gametime they did the same with the ps2 (though it was a smaller lose per console) and they managed relatively fine during launch.

Samething with Xbox 360, though microsoft wasn't worried about cash, they got screwed with 2 different speeds of memory so they had to sort them out during launch which is why they had relatively few consoles during the launch window but they have recovered nicely and are almost at full production to ready for the holidays.

The ps3 will also surely run into component shortages too just like the xbox 360. It takes 1 part in the thousands to halt production.

zypher7189d ago

i don't think gametime was commenting about the article itself, but rather the real deal's response to it.

Schmitty077188d ago

Real Deal seems like a PR for Microsoft, always making speeches about 360

Yeah.. sony is dying!.. just kidding..! hehe

zypher7189d ago

this is an unverified report. not saying that its true for false; but until i hear more i'll take it with a grain of salt.

Thugbot1877188d ago

LOL Sony fans really crack me up. If you want fact go look at Sony's stock. The worth of the stock did fall. Doesn't take a rocket scientist to read the loss of percentage.

ironwolf7189d ago

rather than CNBC Financial, your waiting for PS3 Users.com?

zypher7189d ago (Edited 7189d ago )

no. i'm waiting for a statement from Sony, who would know more than anyone the manufacturing capacity of its product. i'm waiting for an actual release of the PS3, that way i can see unequivocally whether or not its true. i have plenty of PS2 games, and a few 360 games to tide me over while i wait

andy capps7188d ago

No, he's waiting for this.. this is what Sony said just the other day:

"Unfortunately Kaz Hirai's comments in the recent GameSpot interview regarding PlayStation 3 production were misunderstood. We are still on schedule to ship 2 million units for our mid-November 2006 launch and additional 2 million units by the end of the year for a total of 4 million units."

The Real Deal7189d ago

This was insider information...thats why their stocks dropped. Sony will not make any announcements that would hurt their launch. Investors on the other hand always know the bottom line. They have money at stake invested in SONY. You will just see. You will see at launch and beyond how many ps3's get sold. But I told everyone there was no way they would sell 4 million by the end of the year. Now it looks like they will be lucky to sell 1.5 million by the end of the year. Worldwide...It all makes sense now with all the games cancelled or not coming for another year. Devs know something we don't and of course Sony ain't tellin.

Look I know VIII has its issues and all that but how on earth can the do big anniversary events with new artwork and merchandise for VII, IX and X yet VIII got sweet f*** all.

They could have given it something during its 25th anniversary yet all it got was a single Happy Anniversary post on their social media.

solideagle18h ago

they should know that we are OG fans of VIII as it sold truckload as well. not as much as VII or X. I personally didn't like IX but X and VI are my personal fav.

Shadow Hearts 2 covenant is another game I love. I hope one day someone can make remake, I would be delighted

Final Fantasy VIII is great and you are always the first to defend it in the comments

"Gaming’s Biggest Fighting Franchise"

Press X to (seriously) doubt.

DarXyde7d ago

Underrated comment. I used to hate that game so much that any time my siblings asked me to play it, I just picked Hom and shut myself down mid-match.

And then MK1 killed it again.

15 years went by so fast. I remember playing through the story mode at launch.

PlayStation legend Shuhei Yoshida says Jim Ryan fired him because he didn't listen to him

Why did Sony push Shuhei Yoshida out of his role leading PlayStation's first-party games? He'd overseen some huge successes. Well, apparently, he didn't listen.

Yeah I can see that for sure. Shuhei Yoshida should have been in charge not Jim Ryan.

Cacabunga9d ago

It should be free highway for him now.. but Sony are too stupid to see this, especially that moron Hulst

S2Killinit8d ago (Edited 8d ago )

Wtf why all that anger. PlayStation is dominating on every level. Besides I think there is a little more to hiring a CEO than just who is available. Its not like its a athlete your team wants to buy.

neutralgamer19928d ago

S2Killinit

live service failures, chasing trends, closing studios. yes dominating

Cacabunga8d ago

Sony is Dominating because competition is not existing. Compared to previous gens this is the poorest in terms of software offerings.

Last gen we got Uncharted 4 Lost Legacy and TLOU2 from ND alone.

This is so far a remasters gen, with no competition to lift up the quality

1nsomniac8d ago (Edited 8d ago )

..."PlayStation is dominating on every level"....

...Really???

PlayStation are soon heading into a new generation in the not to distant future. They currently have the worst customer satisfaction they've ever sustained as a company. The company is heading for a huge crash while at the same time they'll need to be planning how they are going to try and win back that favour and the build up to their new releases.

Yes financially they're winning but they're going to have to ride out this complete public corporate disaster. No one has faith in the company or the product anymore. They've damaged their public image so much this generation. Greed can kill anyone.

medman8d ago

Hulst is a disaster......

He would've done the same thing and fire Jim Ryan and Shuhei would be the villain. Why?
Because Elite creates the narrative and distraction for gamers, users and citizens.

Outside_ofthe_Box9d ago

More confirmation that Jim Ryan is the culprit for what has happened to Sony. Hulst needs to go too. What sucks is that a lot of the good top heads at Sony are no longer there. I wish that guys that were forced out prematurely by Dumbo Jimbo like Shuhei and Layden came back.

robtion8d ago

Yep. Yoshida was responsible for bringing one of the best games of this generation to playstation (Stellar Blade). He is an actual gamer and is in touch with what gamers want (creative, fun games, not GaaS and agenda pushing). He also seems like a genuinely nice guy if you watch some interviews. Of course they got rid of him.

darthv729d ago

Makes you wonder if MS even thought about hiring him after Phil and Sarah were leaving. He certainly couldn't make their situation any worse.

Agent758d ago

Microflop. After Windows XP and Xbox 360, it all went floppy.

S2Killinit8d ago

Floppy 😆
No pun intended

badz1499d ago

Yoshida for President! Jim Ryan was and always be a hack! Sony should get Shu back

Lightning779d ago

All the gamer/consumer lead heads are gone across PS and Xbox. shuhei gone phil's gone (questionable) but gone. The future of gaming is somewhat uncertain across the board.
