Digital Spy writes: omefront promised to be the thinking man's Call Of Duty. In reality it's just Call Of Duty with a more interesting premise but a whole lot less polish. The concept of an occupied America is so emotive and powerful, yet it's never truly realised in what is a far too short campaign that reaches its climax way too early. Koas really should have had the strength of conviction to focus on the desperate fight against oppression of a small group of characters. In a strange quirk, that would even have made the inevitable sequel a more tantalising prospect, as players would have put more emotional investment in the character's plight. Crucially, there also seem few reasons why online gamers would want to switch allegiance to the game from the comfort of Call Of Duty: Black Ops or Battlefield: Bad Company 2. Homefront is without doubt ambitious, but the game ultimately falls short of delivering its own shooter revolution."

Jack writes: "Back in March 2011, the first-person action shooter Homefront arrived on the Xbox 360 from THQ, along with a storm of publicity which included a really cool live-action trailer"

Last week game dev Steve Thornton took to Twitter to ask: fellow devs, have you ever slipped something into a game you're working on that's just for you? The replies are well worth a read.

Deep Silver and Humble Bundle are currently offering the first Homefront game for free. This offer will last for the next 48 hours, so be sure to visit its Humble Bundle page in order to acquire your free copy.
