Crytek: Crysis 2 PS3 Demo Based on Code Just Prior to Submission

A developer working for Crytek has stated that the Crysis 2 PS3 demo is based on the shooter’s code that was just prior to submission; whereas the current Xbox 360 demo is based on the code that Crytek used for the first demo of the game that was previously released on Microsoft’s platform.

MGRogue20175560d ago (Edited 5560d ago )

.. what is this? I don't even... =/

ffs, Look Crytek.. Just get the god damn PS3 version running & looking 100% EXACTLY the same as the Xbox 360 version plz, OK?

'cause as far as everyone is aware right now.. I repeat, *RIGHT NOW*. it doesn't look & perform the same.. at all.

I wanna' see a patch/update for the PS3 demo in a few minutes or the next few hours, ok.. I'm waiting.

Nitrowolf25560d ago

well in most cases demo are older/different builds. IDK, i will wait for the final product. Same thing happened with Mass effect 2 where they (Bioware/EA) used an older build of there demo and the final game ended up performing and looking a bit better.

NewMonday5560d ago

Just tried the demo, I got shot every time I use the powers, they are just a distraction, if I ignore them the whole point of the game is lost, but I loved the maps.

-Alpha5560d ago (Edited 5560d ago )

I like the powers, even with the limited amount available in the beta there is a good sense of juggling. I like how everything takes energy and how you have to manage all of it well in order to succeed.

As for the PS3 version, this is their first game on the PS3 and I imagine they are having troubles. Wont expect much for the PS3 version, it's a PC game and will be superior on PC, I just hope they put in the work, but why would they when nobody else does?

Those getting it on the PS3 can at least hope they improve Framerate and pop-in. I'm not sure how much of the performance issues on the PS3 version was networking and how much is affected by the build

Strangely, I played the game the following day and it seemed to run better. So *maybe* a lot of what I was experiencing was lag. I'm sure they can fix certain issues, but undoubtedly the PS3 version will suffer the most. We can just hope the issues aren't significant enough

aCasualGamer5560d ago

Why release an old build demo with for example, screentearing and low framerate? The idea of demos is to give a taste of the final product. If the demo is shit, then potential customers will cancel their preorders.

This is why demos can be more hurtful to sales rather than being sales boosters.

Instead of putting money and resources to build a demo version of the game, invest all that in improving the final product.

I would gladly skip a short 5-10 minute taste of future games if i knew all that money would be spent on making the product problem and glitch free.

http://www.youtube.com/watc...

HolyOrangeCows5560d ago (Edited 5560d ago )

The retail code better be a LOAD better than the demo.

The latency is the worst in any game I've EVER played. If you've played Killzone 2.....multiply that latency by about 5. Yeah.

The resolution and texture resolutions should be much higher.

And I can't tell if it's the frame rate or the lag, but the frames-per-second needs to be better. Then again, I remember Kz3's beta seemed like it had a low fps, but it just ended up being lag. The retail version's MP runs fine. (Don't complain that I mentioned "you know what" zone, it's a recent and good example).

Otherwise, I thought the demo was okay (gameplay-wise). I'm more interested in the campaign, though.

BattleAxe5560d ago (Edited 5560d ago )

"Demo based on code prior to submission"....ok, so its the latest build then. Plain straight forward english please Crytek.

Pixel_Pusher5560d ago (Edited 5560d ago )

Dude KZ3 beta had framerate issues also so I'm sure they'll address it before final release. As far as jaggies go all multiplats have 'em so no biggie for me.

Day 1 for PS3, hell yeah.

Oh and amor does work properly it's just that if the person you're facing has upgraded armor ability and you don't well then aim for the head or cloak up.

DaTruth5560d ago (Edited 5560d ago )

Personally, I'll wait for the final build reviews from DF! The framerate problems I've heard about could be due to poor networking, which given the fact that I can't get into a game, seems very likely!

The screenshots I've seen for all versions look pretty good... especially for subHD! But my standards will be high as I'm looking for any reason to buy 2 worlds 2 instead!

Even though I feel the opinion parts of DF analysis are biased, their technical analysis is good and gives you a good idea about the game!(by opinion bias I mean that if the PS3 version has lower framerates but better load times, suddenly long load times aren't a problem and minor framerate dips are a mortal sin against God)

Pixel_Pusher5560d ago (Edited 5560d ago )

for those too lazy to scroll all the way down the page.

ps3 version has more detail and better textures and better lighting than the 360 version.

and just look at how horrible the depth of field is for the 360 compared to the PS3.
http://img195.imageshack.us...

MaxXAttaxX5560d ago (Edited 5560d ago )

Improved performance? Yes.
But visually, why would they want to make it on par with the 360 version???

The PS3 version resembles the PC version a lot more closely than the 360!

PC and PS3 are very similar in contrast levels, details and lighting:
Exhibit A: http://www.videogameszone.d...
Exhibit B: http://www.videogameszone.d...
You'll notice that the 360 version is overly dark in shaded areas, hiding detail, and overly bright on certain light areas.
And I'm not just talking about Crysis 2.

Over-saturation and dark contrast ≠ better graphics. They're not really good visual attributes. But many people tend to not understand this when comparing.

Soldierone5560d ago

The game has a good idea, and looks semi good. However bragging about being the best looking game there is, it really isnt all that out of this world.

The demo is horrible. I dont wanna hear excuses as to "this is an early build" then why release it? It sucks. It feels like im shooting air and the air is randomly killing me. The powers are nearly useless and you do better without using anything not hiding you, so there goes the whole point of the game.

I just hope the single player is better, thats waht ill be renting the game for.

Zydake5560d ago

The ps3 demo really is crap i played both the 360 and ps3 versions and there is a hell of a difference to me. Crytek is really doing a crappy job as of lately

pixelsword5559d ago

I'm not term-savvy, so does that mean it was an older build for the PS3 or a newer one?

Fishy Fingers5560d ago

I think your asking to much for a patch/update. The game looks/performs slightly differently on different platforms. Not happy with your platform of choice, tough I'm afraid.

MGRogue20175560d ago (Edited 5560d ago )

It's fine.. I've already decided that I'm getting it for my Xbox 360.. Just one of the many benefits of owning both consoles.

but like everyone else, I'm very disappointed about the PS3 version.. being how it is.

See this article: http://www.computerandvideo...

Crysis 2 PS3 'performs better than 360 version'

... Crytek lied.

DrFUD5560d ago

enkeixpress, Crytek didn't lie.
The article you refer to is from April 14 2010 about PS3 version being better but that is before the Codename Kingdoms announcement on June 14 2010.
It doesn't take a brain surgeon to figure out what happened.

Masterchef20075560d ago

Let me guess microsoft payed them to make the PS3 version terrible. Just like Microsoft payed activison to wreck the PS3s version of call of Duty Black Ops.

WoW i dont know if i should believe you cause it sounds like a pretty nutty theory to me.

DrFUD5560d ago

Masterchef, common sense says Microsoft secured the majority of Crytek's focus, resources, and time at a certain point there.
But if you give me enough money I'll sit and respond to you here all day too.
And because I would be doing that there's only so much extra attention I can give everybody else here.
Even though I try to treat everybody equal.

Have a nice day.

Pixel_Pusher5560d ago (Edited 5560d ago )

@enkeixpress

http://img195.imageshack.us...

looks like the PS3 version is the better one out of the two. So no Crytek didn't lie.

MaxXAttaxX5560d ago (Edited 5560d ago )

In performance, when it comes to frames. No.
But visually, it DOES do a better job than 360.

So in a way, Crytek didn't lie.
PS3 and PC versions are a lot more closer than the 360 is.
http://www.videogameszone.d...
http://www.videogameszone.d...

But you still have time to change your mind on which version to get. Since you do have both consoles, right?

Another pathetic Crytek article to join the others. Since I know this will reach 500degrees in a few hours I'll just leave this here;

http://n4g.com/news/723059/...

FailOverHero5560d ago

Translation; the ps3 demo is running on a newer code than the one that 360 demo is running on.
And still the 360 demo > PS3 demo.
Ha ha ha @ those we do not speak of and *facepalm* @Crytek

MysticStrummer5560d ago

"Ha ha ha @ those we do not speak of" Why bring the Wii into this? ; )

theonlylolking5560d ago (Edited 5560d ago )

Why get it to run as good as the 360. The PS3 has more shadows than the 360 and unneeded amount of extra motion blur.

They need to get it 720p, and the frame rate fixed. Most of those comparisons have the contrast settings all messed up.
The lens of truth one has the contrast messed up, videogamezone.de is also messed up.

The only comparison I have seen that looks like the versions I have played is this http://www.youtube.com/watc...

starchild5560d ago

I still think the single player portion of the final game could be quite different. The fact that Crytek UK was responsible for the multiplayer parts of the game means that the performance of the single player part, made by Crytek, and the multiplayer part, made by Crytek UK, could be quite different.

DigitalAnalog5560d ago

The early 360 code back then is 'superior' to the almost latest code for the PS3.

I do not want to imagine how far the differences would be on retail.

-End statement

moparful995560d ago

Dude there have already been comparissons of the retail versions and there are hardly any differences at allllllll.. People once again are taking the smallest incident and blowing it up into full scale stupidness.. Ignorance is a disease that is rampant on this site....

DigitalAnalog5560d ago (Edited 5560d ago )

You mean like the time that Gamespot editor claimed the FFXIII was "crisper" on the 360 compared to the PS3?

http://uk.gamespot.com/even...

Take note that was the "final" build they were previewing. Only to find out that DF clearly stated the opposite.

You call people "ignorant" on this site, that's true for the most part. However, there are cases when history tends to repeat itself when it comes to hyping up "multi-plat" games on the PS3. This is just one of them.

"Crytek claimed the PS3 runs BETTER on the PS3."

http://www.computerandvideo...

And yet, it's already confirmed the PS3 runs at a lower-resolution than the 360. By that fact alone, there is a HUGE difference. So now they are caught LYING, and falsely advertising. They are now being caught on their bullshit and rightfully so!

-End statement

AyeGee5560d ago

@DigitalAnalog

I hope you know they said it'll "run" better on the PS3. I didn't see much talk about graphics..

DigitalAnalog5560d ago

And what exactly constitutes as "run"? Because as far as I'm concerned, Crytek claims both consoles are at a solid 30FPS on v-sync. And since that's can't be classified as better (as in per description) then what exactly do they mean by "runs better?"

-End statement

AyeGee5557d ago

@DigitalAnalog

Chill, brah.. takin it serious.

moparful995560d ago

You know its funny cause whenever this whole mess first started I claimed and told everyone that demos more often then not are based on UNFINISHED code and therefore don't reflect the final product.. Instead of people agreeing and moving along I get some people insulting me and arguing while my disagree counter lit up.. Now suddenly the truth comes straight from the lips of the developer and everyone on here is like "Oh of course this is how it has always been" FFS i'm sick of the hypocrity and down right ignorance of some users on here.. I'm about to walk away from this place.....

chainer30005560d ago

A patch for a demo? You will be waiting quiet a while sir.

AKS5560d ago

I actually had a lot of network issues even in the PC version, so I can't rule that out as the source of the choppiness in the PS3 demo given that it's a multiplayer demo. I'm buying the PC version personally, although I may wait a bit for a Steam special.

hiredhelp5559d ago (Edited 5559d ago )

your ignorance astounds me (enkixpress)

you make it sound like its a port. lol that or you are some what jellious cos you seem bit upset when you say it has to be 100% exact to the 360.

do you know why they developed the new cryengine its so the engine can make use of the playstation and the console the best it can by developing seperatly for both but at the same time gets programmed on both.its a new way they have developed useing this tool and engine kinda like streaming but not. even i get bit baffled anyways cut long story short.

if you feel the 360 looks crap ps3 looks better or vise verser dont blame the dev's its the engine its doing its job thats not to say its gonna use 100% ps3 i hate that saying. but the ps3 way back early last year was leaked info to playstation magazine that the lead platform thats not the exact words but it was said in a way you could tell ea was hinting to the editor of the official playstation mag. the ps3 in way of performance and other things. however after that statement we never seen or heard about the ps3 version again untill now. funny that'

Sigh, I guess I'll just have to wait for release date to pass judgement on this game.
I'm sure the single-player will be awesome though.

jriquelme_paraguay5560d ago (Edited 5560d ago )

what does this mean?
the ps3 demo is the final build?

gameseveryday5560d ago

I think the news means that the ps3 version we are seeing so far is from the old build.

sourav935560d ago

Umm..you're mistaken. The ps3 version is the version which is prior to "submission", meaning the version that is more or less the latest build, which is then submitted for certification. The 360 version runs on the old code, as per the article.

vandal GAB5560d ago

Which can only mean the 360 version will get even better with the extra optimization and tweaking = 360 win!

thedarkestfaction5560d ago

I just wish they could get the pc version running as well as the consoles.

So basically, the ps3 version will look like ass with no hope of improvement? I'm so used to games looking so close to each other that controller preference was the deciding factor. This is sloppy work from Crytek.

_LarZen_5560d ago

This is just sad Crytek, I was gonna play the singleplayer on the PS3 and the multiplayer on the PC.

But now...now im just gonna put on me pirate boots and shiver me timbers there she blows!

If you get my drift...

plb5560d ago (Edited 5560d ago )

Just because a game doesn't meet your expectations doesn't mean it gives you the right to pirate it. WTH would you play this on PS3 anyway if you have a capable PC?

@_LarZen_ obviously you don't know how much effort goes into creating software. Regardless, I have no doubt you'd have pirated it anyway.

_LarZen_5560d ago (Edited 5560d ago )

I like to play singleplayer games on the PS3, but multiplayer on the PC becaus of the controllers and friends playing online.

I usaly never download games, since I respect the makers of the game I want to play. I have no respect for Crytek anymore, they are a joke in my eyes.

So I wil probably pirate it.

And going all high and mighty about piracy is just bull.

Edit: You dont know me so dont even try to act smart about that. Ofc I know that there goes a hell of a effort in making these games.

But when you lie and talk crap to your potential costumers I feel no pitty on Crytek.

nilamo5560d ago

You accuse some developers that you personally know of being a joke just because of some internet rage and then you turn it around and claim that people shouldn't accuse you of being a pirate just because they don't know you?? really?

T3mpr1x5560d ago

@nilamo Don't try to reason with pirates. They are of the same ass-backwards method of thinking, i.e. gross rationalization for the crime they are committing.

moparful995560d ago

@_LarZen_

So failure to meet your dilluded expectations justifies theft?? Are you kidding me? By your misguided and misplaced logic someone who is paying you to do some work for them suddenly decides that you are a joke and aren't going to pay you is justified... Don't even try to argue that its different because it's not... Theft is theft period.. They are selling a product and if you use that product without paying its theft.. If you work for someone they are buying your service or your "product" and if they don't pay you its theft.. End of discussion, people like you litter prisons and jail cells because they feel they have "righteous justification" Trust me, you dont.......

radphil5560d ago (Edited 5560d ago )

You know the funny part.

For those that are ousting him rightfully so, how many of you applies to the idiom "Pot calling the kettle black"?

Seen it one too many times people get on a person's case for illegally downloading games, yet they've either watched TV shows online, downloaded music, etc.

;)

If you were really disappointed then you wouldnt even play it at all.

Clearly you want to play it but are just making excuses to try and justify stealing it.

_LarZen_5560d ago (Edited 5560d ago )

Everyone downloads stuff, either it be tv series, movies, music or games.

Just because some of you are fanatic fanboys dont mean you represent everyone.

So stuff it!

I have probably over 60 PS3 games and God knows how many Pc games now...so stuff it you troll. Read what people write before trolling...troll.
