Is The CryEngine 3 A Disappointment?

Crytek have been notoriously boastful about how powerful the game engine running their upcoming title Crysis 2 is, for many months now. The executives have made bold statements like “the CryEngine 3 could run any game” and putting emphasis on the ‘superior’ aesthetic quality of Crysis 2. Expectation as a consequence was very high, with critics and fans eager to see this new standard of graphical eye candy.

Shouldn't judge CE3 and Crysis 2 by mutliplayer demo made by fail developers.SP is where everything is at and its made by Crytek Germany.

This guy could make himself favor and look at videos from leaked old SP build. It looks noticably better than anything out there.

If someone still doubts CE3 marvelous visuals look at this.

We will see next week.....

PC = May be, But we should compare PC versions of Crysis 2 vs Battlefield 3 (frostbyte)

Console = Although CE3 tech demo ran better on PS3, the final game is compromised.

On PC it is not even a question, it is by far the best looking game I have played (aside from the first Crysis). On consoles I think it is still easily one of the most graphically advanced games available on consoles.

Journalists have said as much.

http://www.computerandvideo...
"Crysis 2 is the best looking game on console. Boom.

There's your takeaway statement. There's your excuse to scurry for the comments section foaming at the mouth, dismiss this article as the ranting of as a clueless moron who doesn't know what he's talking about or read on in interest. Perhaps even all three.

But however you react, Crysis 2 is what it is. It's the best looking game on console."

"So how does it look? Well... awesome. Crysis 2 is the kind of game that makes it all too easy to stray into list territory when describing the visuals. So we will anyway: Glass shatters and falls under gunfire; bullets ping off concrete blocks while throwing up thick clouds of dust; cars warp and crumple under heavy alien feet; buildings shake off suffocating layers of settled dirt thanks to nearby rumbles and shockwaves, often caused by aliens bursting through the concrete.

Yet picking and listing the ingredients does a disservice to the overall cocktail of visual splendour. It's the way everything hangs together that made us want to check round the back of the screen to see if the leads were running to a 360 or a nuclear-powered PC."

"But the real takeaway here is the sentence we opened up with. If you remember only one thing from this, make it so: Crysis 2 is the best looking game on console. Boom."

IGN has also made comments about it being in the running for best-looking console game. Other previewers have expressed similar feelings.

i dont think most doubt Cry Engine 3's visuals. Problem is people think that they are not putting any effort into pushing the bounderies even more because its focus is getting the engine and of course crysis to run on consoles this time.

Keep in mind Crysis 1, although a power hog, is still the current benchmark for visuals.

.
Jealous fanboys/pixel counters and all round haters are the ones bitching and complaining. It doesn't matter to me, the game is solid if not spectacular depending if you like linear scripted game play or open sandbox game play like Crysis 2. The game play and graphics are all in REAL TIME not some background video or picture or atmospheric effects that have nothing to do with the game play.

All the PS3 nonsense is unwarranted. The game looks and plays beautifully on PS3...a surprise to me since I thought the PS3 couldn't pull it off...

http://www.youtube.com/watc...

There is no game on PS3 that can do any of this in real time. Just look at the water and lighting effects. the twisted metal and mass destruction. The great sense of speed in the game and ability to climb anything in the environment. Go jump in the water in KZ 3 and tell me how that went...LMFAO

ALL games that have a perk system will require a massive amount of game time to figure out what works for you and what doesn't based on your style of play...Run and gun Vs posting up ( camping ) Vs sniping...etc. Once you come to grips with that, you will see the genius and flexability in this game.

I thought Crytek was full of them selves in the beginning and on my first couple of playthroughs thought the game was broken...then I learned a few things, unlock a few more and before you know it, it was as addictive as any other game out there. I think Crytek will do very well with this game.

BK-2015538d ago

Crysis on PS3 can't even touch Killzone 2 dude.

palaeomerus5538d ago

And if Crysis THRASHES KZ3 in visuals and does it in an open world area you'll STILL claim that KZ3 is better. That's the fanboy way.

HeavenlySnipes5538d ago

CRYSIS 2 IS NOT OPEN WORLD/AREA

Its like saying Metal Gear Solid 4 was open world. Just because the game gives you 2-3 different paths on a mission doesn't mean it is an open world game. Its exactly why Crytek said they made the game with choreographed linearity, each of the paths gives you a slightly different experience, one may be the stealthy route, the other a more rambo style route. In the end though they all lead to the SAME DAMN PLACE. You fanboys act like you can leave the area and go engage in a maximum side mission lol.

As far as the graphics, I'll say this. You know the feeling you get from playing an amazing looking game and just have to stop and stare at the scenery? I tried that with the C2 demo and was disgusted

The PC leak is the whole game and people aren't raving about that leak either.

most time when devs carry on about something it's generally because it's not quite the best.

Chazboski5538d ago

Actually it wasn't the full game, it was the last beta release if I remember correctly. While the core game was there, I'm 90% sure it only ran directx 9 as opposed to 11. Should be a significant upgrade come tuesday.

I wish things would go back to the good ol days of gaming, when people wouldn't bitch about how a game looks and only cared about whether it was fun or not.

HacSawJimThugin5538d ago

Those days are long gone my friend; PC gamers only make it worst when they brag about their chipsets and all of that other blah, blah, blah that no one cares about. If the game isn't fun, why bother.

NYC_Gamer5538d ago

its wrong to pass judgement based on some old mp demo

Ya I agree, wait for the full thing

I really want to see a Crysis 4 with all the ray-tracing & path-tracing effects. It would be a shame if they canceled the project. Maybe they could do a kickstarter?

DF
" Crysis is something of a tentpole game series for us at Digital Foundry, with a reputation for being an early adopter of graphics technologies that would later define entire generations of PC and console video games. That includes the likes of screen-space ambient occlusion, sub-surface scattering and ray-marched volumetric lighting, but you could write volumes about just how ground-breaking that first game was "

isarai451d ago

I really hope they come out and push the industry forward like they used to. I miss old crytek

PrinceOfAnger449d ago

They all look disappointed by this news especially Alex

JEECE449d ago

Pretty sad that the studio that gave us a monumental game like Crysis is now subsisting on microtransactions from a live service PVPVE game.

Crysis developer Crytek is the next studio hit by layoffs, as it announces it's set to lose an estimated 15 percent of its 400 employees.

RaidenBlack457d ago

Why'd the day start with such sad gaming news?
Absolutely disheartening.

Jingsing457d ago

Maybe putting The Power Rangers in Hunt Showdown will get you some money back. (sarcasm)

Kassanova07457d ago

I'm always rooting for Crytek.

I’m rooting for Crysis. Hope they work it out.
