GamerNode: Dead Space 2: Severed Review

Take Dead Space 2, subtract the hallucinations, the Zero-G segments, the puzzles, the element of discovery, the fresh (if languished) environments, and Isaac Clarke himself. What's left?

Dead Space 2's first single-player DLC Severed stays focused on the implication of its title, perhaps to the detriment of the overall package. It places an ungainly weight on the shoulders of dismemberment combat for this extension of Dead Space: Extraction's fiction creating a dichotomy as uncomfortable as traipsing backward through already tired levels. The Sprawl never looked so... familiar.

I suppose that opening paragraph says it all. It's a shame that they started out on such a low note for the single player DLC.

italianbreadman5525d ago

Yeah, especially with such positive reception for the main game.

Dead Space 2's 'Severed' DLC Is the 'Sequel' You Probably Never Played

Dead Space 2: Severed is the culmination of a whole varied canon of wonderful sci-fi stories, which was abandoned in Dead Space 3. But that's OK.

It’s weird, that it was never released on the PC.

MadLad2291d ago

Yup. Played it on PC. Dead Space 1 and 2 are some of my all time favorite games. Didn't even know this was a thing.

Double_O_Revan2290d ago

I love Dead Space and I don't remember this either.

Unspoken2290d ago

Would love to see these remastered or a continuation of the series. I loved the comic short series they had to add to the story.

Dirtnapstor2290d ago

Played it. A remaster of all things Dead Space would be welcomed by me. DS1 & 2 had such a great campaign.

SmielmaN2290d ago

Agreed. Dead Space and Dead Space 2 are a couple of my all time favs.

Towers2290d ago

I would have thought that the success of RE re-masters would have convinced EA to remaster these for the next gen machines.

sprinterboy2290d ago

It's EA remember lol.
Mind boggles why no remake

AnotherGamer2290d ago

Its also very short giving the price and such.

Juiceid2290d ago

Sheeeeiiit. I’m one of the nut jobs that got that achievement for beating the game on the hardest difficulty with only using three saves for the entire run. I hope to play more Dead Space again before I’m old and full of arthritis!

Misa2290d ago

I did it too on three save for the entire run!
Hope we get to play Dead Space again.

P_Bomb2290d ago (Edited 2290d ago )

I remember doing Severed day one. It was actually a direct sequel to Dead Space: Extraction (Gabe & Lexine). Being that Extraction came free with DS2, throwing a coin to finish the fight was a no-brainer.

Even with all the hate 3's getting, I'm still a fan of the series. Didn't even know this was a thing, but I just picked up a copy from Amazon.

Gamerevolution: Best DLC Add-On 2011

What’s better than wracking your brain to come up with solutions to the most elaborate spatial puzzles ever thought up by the most deranged, egotistical, and homicidal AI this side of HAL 9000? Doing it with a friend, of course! Portal 2 gave us more than just a fantastic new single-player installment, which probably would have been enough to satisfy most fans in its own right. The multi-player portion represents an evolution of the original’s ingenious gameplay, allowing for even more complex puzzles with two players working in tandem.

... it's GOOD DLC, and it's FREE, so finally a developers who cares, respects and rewards it's fanbase, instead of nickel-and-diming it.

Huge respect for VALVE, and this kinda stuff earns them love and loyalty from their fans. Something too many other developers and publishers either fail to realise, or fail to care about.

Yi-Long5242d ago

...cause all their DLC is free as well, and they found a nice way to do so in-game, or else Microsoft would have demanded it to be content that users would have to pay for.

I love Team Meat.
