iPad 2: Game Developers Bringing Console-like Experiences

SAN FRANCISCO – When Steve Jobs took the stage to unveil iPad2 on March 2 in San Francisco, just across the street there was a gathering of 19,000 game industry professionals preparing for a new revolution of games. In fact, Nintendo President Satoru Iwata was delivering a keynote trumpeting the March 27 release of the world’s first glasses free 3D Nintendo 3DS portable in the U.S. at the exact same time that Jobs was discussing how iPad 2 delivers a 1GHz dual core A5 processor built for faster apps and games.

Im srry but until you add two analog sticks and some buttons. Then i would love to play console like games on the Ipad.

sinncross5577d ago

USing two analog sticks on an ipad2 doesnt sound like the most practical thing to do but I agree with you, I think they are needed for a console like experience

WhittO5577d ago (Edited 5577d ago )

All they would need is a controller to plug into the ipad port and there you have a really great capable gaming device with over 10 hours of battery life.

Really nice big screen to play on too.

_LarZen_5577d ago

That is going against all that the tablets are for..either its Android or Apple.

Agree that some games just dont work any good with touch. But there are other games that are so perfect for it.

So sorry...you fail.

Leio5577d ago

There are a certain type of games that are perfect for touch screens. Trying to convert a cow to a chicken is not gonna work. I´d love to see games like "Angry birds"
or "Patapon" ...etc coming to touch devices.

If you want a console experience get a console not some $600 tablet, which cost more than 2 console combine. They say consoles are expensive and yet they go and buy a $600 Ifad that does less than a $250 laptop. I hate people with double standards.

Izanagi-no-Okami5577d ago

Of course, but the Ipad is much more than just a gaming machine. If people want a device for gaming only, they should get a console, but if they want to play and do other tasks, i think the Ipad is good.

Otheros005577d ago

No, that is why you go with the laptop not the Ifad. Again $600 Ifad does less than a $250 laptop.

Si-Fly5577d ago (Edited 5577d ago )

@Otheros00 : actually buddy, since I've had my ipad I can hardly ever be bothered to fire up my laptop any more, it's so much easier and convenient to surf the web or do emails on the ipad whether I'm at work or home. And it's the perfect companion for flights.

Games, books, videos and music applications are simply more fun on an ipad from my point of view, it'll never replace my consoles or desktops but then it was never meant to.

_LarZen_5577d ago

If you want to play a console game you play that on a console..dah.

But if you want to play a iDevice game you play it on....wait for it.....here it comes.....a iDevice! Tada!!!

Jeez... Personaly I dont care what your economy is and that you think the iPad is a ifad just tells me you have no clue what you are talking about.

b777conehead5577d ago

I love my I pad I'm typeing to you on it now . It works better then a laptop on a airplane witch I travel a lot . Plus it I's great to use at home for Internet e mail etc etc .

fuff1155576d ago (Edited 5576d ago )

Double standard ??? nyc cmnt tho, totally agreed! :)

Ipad doesn't even come close to the NGP not to talk of consoles.

Optical_Matrix5577d ago

No...you won't. Because a console needs to have an input method that involves buttons, analog sticks etc. iPad 2 lacks that. That is all.

Troll-without-Bridge5577d ago

Graphic wise, maybe. Control wise, not a change.

Developers are kinds naive, it seems.

U.S. patent examiner rejects Nintendo’s summoning characters patent as obvious: non-final ruling

The rejection is non-final (and even when such rejections are labeled as “final”, the process is far from over, given that there can be, at minimum, an appeal to the Federal Circuit).

Good, as they should! A game mechanic like that shouldn't be locked behind a patent, and Nintendo didn't invent it either.

PRIMORDUS76d ago (Edited 76d ago )

Nintendo wants to keep wasting money on bullshit lawsuits, real smart in this economy. They should put that money aside for other game projects. On the other hand, I don't care if they waste it all either, and they are screwed in the future maybe that will teach them a lesson.

Nintendo Suing U.S. Government Over Tariffs

Well dayum lol. Old agent orange pissing off every industry and nation.

The fact that you have ANY disagrees will forever baffle me. And to the (apparent) MAGA contingent that exists on this website, enjoy your 8-9 dollar gas.

AuraAbjure101d ago (Edited 101d ago )

Yes, they had better be pissed after Trump told them the way they rip off the USA is over.

EveryPlatformGamer102d ago

LOL I read this on gaff, will they refund the money back to the gamers? highly unlikely. Didn't they just raise prices and pass it onto the gamers? Only Nintendo would send out the Ninjas to the US government.

-Foxtrot102d ago

That’s what I was thinking, imagine them winning hypothetically, getting a s**t load of money back which they would have lost if they hadn’t raised their prices and it’s business as normal.

It would just mean people paid more for no reason since they got the money back anyway.

Outside_ofthe_Box101d ago (Edited 101d ago )

A lot of companies partially passed the cost to consumers instead of all of it. They would still have to at least pay that back to gamers, but we know that won't happen. What's also sad is that prices won't come back down after the initial hike caused by tariffs.

People didn't understand the full repercussions of tariffs. That alone should have cost him the presidency if people knew it was a permanent price hike for consumers

Inverno102d ago

The people should sue these companies for having to over pay cause of these tariffs.

Eonjay102d ago

Naw they should sue the government for forcing the tax to begin with. No one reasonably expects these companies to absorb the taxes. Many smaller companies tried and were shut down or faced to increase prices to try to maintain their business. The tariffs effect everyone.

Inverno100d ago

I meant it mostly as a joke cause we all know the costs of these tariffs were passed onto the consumer. But it's seems no matter how vocal we are here in the states our "representatives" don't seem to care enough to represent us. And things are about to get worse.

Killer2020UK101d ago

The companies were doing what the law required then to do, the tariffs however were illegally implemented. Usually it's criminals we punish, you seem to have different ideas 🤷‍♂️
