Fantasy buff and RPG expert Jason Wilson chronicles his first week going it alone across the planes of Trion Worlds' Rift.
Jason: I've been playing role-playing games almost since the dawn of time (well, since 1983, really), but I've never been into MMOs. And the few that I have enjoyed, such as Star Trek Online, aren't fantasy games. Even Dungeons & Dragons Online and The Lord of the Rings Online failed to hook me, a lifelong fan of these pillars of fantasy.
So, why Rift? The game's character system and lore is the lure. As a longtime (and sadly retired) player of D&D, I love the mechanics that introduced "kits" and "prestige classes" layering additional roles and abilities on your character. So the first time I checked out Rift and learned about its "souls" (aka subclasses), it resonated with me. You can have up to three souls active at once (which I already do -- a fightin' cleric that's a Inquisitor/Justicar/Purifier), which offers more flexibility when it comes to class than I've ever seen in a MMO, let alone most RPGs.

Players can progress through 30 levels of challenges by completing daily and weekly quests, thus earning Battle Pass experience points and rewards. The Battle Pass can be played for free and will reward players with various consumables and a set of artifacts that will literally make their pants burn – the “Pants on Fire” effect

gamigo is pleased to announce it has assembled a hefty collection of in-game events, quests and items for the “Budgie Carnival Celebration” in its fantasy MMORPG, RIFT.

After an indeterminate amount of time, the Hellbugs have reared their ugly heads once again to invade Rift. It’s up to players to fight these hellish creatures to save Telara – and in doing so – earn a number of unique rewards that will display their dominance over the Hellbugs.
