EA bans player from playing Dragon Age 2 for calling them “Devil”

GB writes: In what appears to be a tottaly unfair practice, it appears EA are banning people from accessing their legally purchased copies of Dragon Age 2 if they were vocal about their displeasure regarding the game over at the official Bioware forums.

OMG, BioWare are pretty desperate this time

MAJ0R5539d ago

class action lawsuits incoming

chainer30005539d ago

This is a spin article - had his original psot been duplicated, you would have seen why he got banned for 72 hours... it was certainly not for speaking ill of bioware, and right now they deserved it for the horrible unplayed signature ps3 edition i got,

at least my steam one works though

teething5539d ago

Mental note: play game before trolling about "how bad it is."

This is my problem with all this crying... Do it after you give the game a fair chance.

pixelsword5539d ago

Way to support your fanbase, EA

...Devils.

LOL!

badz1495539d ago

talk about being a dick! damn EA, when the fuck did you turn evil, AGAIN?

Beahmscream5539d ago

My thoughts too badz. It appeared as if EA had finally turned the corner but now are back to their old ways!

PandemicPrawn05539d ago

EA never changed.

They still have the “develop by numbers” culture that they have always had, they still close down perfectly good studios, they still charge extra for day 1 DLC that should be on the disk. The only thing that EA care about is knocking over Call of Duty.

I honestly didn’t that Bioware would be sucked into EA’s way of thinking so quickly, but ME2 and now DA2 just proved me wrong.

I expect ME3 to be even further watered down than 2.

Help me Bethesta Softworks, you are my only hope.

Gawdl3y5539d ago

This is bullshit. This article spins what actually happened to make it seem like he's permanently blocked off from his game. Here's what's wrong with that:
1. The fact that he was banned from his in-game account as well is because someone reported him for another reason.
2. It's only a 72-hour ban
3. His post contained religious content that obviously offended someone, which is why he received the forum ban.

VenomProject5539d ago

@K1W1

"Help me Bethesta Softworks, you are my only hope."

QFT

That made me laugh, lol. +bubbles

appleseedexm5538d ago

Nice one @K1W1. Another one is Valve, but they're not on the same track.

And I also do not think that EA ever changed. Its all about the money and about being the boss and they try to achieve this by force. Bite me if I'm wrong, but I think gamers would be more thankful, publishers care about their customers. And thankful gamers would buy more games, at least thats what I would do. Thats one reason why I love it to put every cent into Valve every day I'm buying a game on Steam. I would even have paid for Alien Swarm.
But that sort of thinking seems to be so 2000. Sad.

LOL....for suggesting that they "sold [their] souls to the EA devil?" A new low has been reached.

I think we all know the real reason, and it's not because it was "offensive".....They 're doing anything they can to silence displeased customers. We already know that they were marking all sorts of threads as "spam" that weren't.

TOTAL bs that they can ban people from playing games they paid for because of unruly behavior on their boards.

"Bioware didn't do anything, EA did"
Bioware is part of EA. A subsidiary.

Oh EA....you were rising as a champion of gaming, with new IPs and a will to fight the Activision machine, but now you're back down to your despicable status, releasing rehashes and becoming more like Activision. I am disappoint.

ChristianGamer5539d ago

You don't silence displeased consumers by not allowing them to play a game. That has the opposite effect.

kesvalk5539d ago

and that's why i don't support games with invasive DRM, like this, assassins creed 2 or any games with windows live support.

chainer30005539d ago

the console versions are the ones that freeze on me every 5 minutes,,, waiting desperately for a hot fix patch hopefully ASAP!!!!

KozmoOchez5539d ago

Quote from DA2 PC forums:
They DID NOT strip him of access, since he never used his code. He can easily create another account(Which he has at least ten) and register the game under a new sn. However he does not want that. He wants to be able to register the game under the profile he has that was suspended. How EASY it would be to create a seperate account and register the game there. Therefore EA is not limiting him from playing the game. His own ego inflated is doing that by refusing to reigister the game anywhere else but his original account. Yet he has no problems creating troll threads by the dozens!
/end quote

So... stubborn kid tries to make EA look bad? If he was really that concerned with using that particular profile, he could wait until the 72hours are over...this would've been avoided if the game/dlc was activated before he got himself in trouble.

Now I agree EA does some dirty stuff(stupid nfl license) but some people just like to ride the hate train for a little publicity

CommonCent5539d ago

/Truth. This is the post to read.

Anon19745538d ago (Edited 5538d ago )

I was left wondering that when I read the article. Can't he just make another account and register with that account? EA's not blocking him from playing his game - just from using the account that he was using to troll their forums.

How does this make EA look bad?

And cgoodno made an excellent point below. For some reason people have decided to pick up an irrational hate for this game without even playing it. Most of the reviews claim DA2 is close to or as good as the first - and having throughly enjoyed the first (reminded me of Baldur's Gate) I can't wait to give the second a spin. Bioware has yet to let me down, and their isn't a single other developer I can say that about. Plus, they're based in my city so I'm supporting local industry. :)

But hey, if you all want to board the hate train - be my guest. I can't wait to play the devil outta this game. Same thing happens with any popular title. Killzone, Grand theft Auto, Grand Turismo, Uncharted, Halo. Haters gonna hate.

TheDeadMetalhead5539d ago

THERE'S the old EA I grew up with!

xAlmostPro5539d ago

WTF EA are becoming like activision lol..

theonlylolking5539d ago

I would ban him to if he said that about my company.

DarkBlood5539d ago

i wouldn't ban him for saying that, its not like everyones suspectable to believing the guys every badmouthing about EA or Bioware that would turn away customers that would just make them more gulliable

Christopher5539d ago

I'd sit here and try to defend BioWare, but DA2 has become the whipping boy of video games right now. There is no real logic behind the vitriol, just a rise in the community to hate something where the mass majority of people haven't even played the game yet. And, those that have, already had their mind made up by public perception before the disc hit the PC/console tray.

Bleucrunch5539d ago

Things are not looking for Bioware...and it looks like this game is not living up to the hype of the first one...Looks like it may be a rush job...I will rent and see for myself...I don't want to buy and be disappointed.

TheDeadMetalhead5539d ago

The game was developed within 16 months (Dragon Age Origins came out November 2009). OF COURSE it was a rush job.

RedDead5539d ago

Haha how can they do that? Is it even legal? Really though this is a lesson every dev has to get at some point, don't look for money like that, don't make a game which requires more than 1 year 3 months if your not going to put the time in.

Activision will get it where it hurts soon enough.

Bear_Grylls5539d ago

If you read the hole terms and conditions thing that you click agree on you may find some draconian clause thats states something like this is OK.

As for being legal................ We have found T&C's and EULA's to be legally invalid before. I'm not saying they do have something like this in place just funny if they did. Like that one that said they owned your soul upon clicking agree.

Spitfire_Riggz5539d ago

Lmfao at Bear Grylls. Your awesome great picture.

psb5539d ago

you need to calm the fuck down, let the guy play the game he paid for. What if he said all that, it's true too. Didn't expect this from you myself.

Spydiggity5539d ago

and right there is a reason why pirating is sometimes okay.

darksied5539d ago

Bioware didn't do anything, EA did.

palaeomerus5539d ago (Edited 5539d ago )

Bioware is part of EA so they are still responsible.

Even if it is an EA decision and Bioware protests about it loudly...seriously, do you want to risk this happening with Battlefield 3 this fall?

I'm canceling my Crysis 2 preorder right now.

I guess I already bought Dead Space 2 so I'm kind of stuck there. At least I can avoid buying the DLC for it.

Obviously Fight Night: Champions is off my list too. And Tiger Woods, and Madden.

darksied5539d ago

@palaeomerus

Why? Why are you canceling all your pre-orders and future purchases? Did they do something to you personally? I know what they did seems stupid, and I don't like it myself, but I also don't go calling people the devil just because they messed up one game; that's the height of immaturity. What, did that person put his entire life into waiting for DA:2, and it wasn't to his liking so he exploded?

Those games you mentioned are all going to be good, I'm sure, but Bioware is something else. They have never half-assed anything before, so I don't see the hate for something that one of their forum mod's or someone might have done ...? That doesn't affect their games, which have all been good (even if you don't like DA:2, there are some people out there who really do like it).

ironwolf7775539d ago

Yeah, I can't see missing out on half a dozen games just to make a point ... to yourself only.

palaeomerus5538d ago (Edited 5538d ago )

"Why? Why are you canceling all your pre-orders and future purchases? "

Can't you read? Why is obvious. By not buying games that are contingent on lame "agreements" about forum behavior I am not supporting the publisher anymore.

And it's not ALL future purchases, it's just all EA future purchases. If EA treats their customers this way then I don't want to be a customer of theirs.

Dont know what to say really, this is the most funniest thing I have heard all week.

I mean where is the freedom of expression?

gcolley5539d ago

freedom of expression is a myth

kesvalk5539d ago

agreed, you're only free to express what they want you to express...

get out of the line and you're fried...
you're too naive to think that something as such as freedom of expression really exist.

thats what they deserve for making an inferior game to the first imho.

Dragon Age Lead Says Including World State Reactivity Felt Like It Was "Irrelevant Or Not Enough"

Dragon Age 2 set the precedent that the series would always carry our choices over, but was it worth it?

If the choices won't matter, why bother? Bioware works so hard at giving meaningful choices but rarely if ever carrying out the impact of such choices to the end.

EA Made Dragon Age and Mass Effect DLC Free On PC By Retiring The BioWare Points System

Immersed Gamer writes: "In order to replace the oppressive BioWare Points system, EA is making a large portion of the Mass Effect and Dragon Age DLC catalogs free for PC users.

For those of you blissfully unaware, EA and BioWare employed a payment system called BioWare Points on PC to pay for DLCs for titles like Mass Effect and Dragon Age. While PC gamers have been struggling with BioWare point’s unfair conversion rates and extremely scarce and cost-detrimental sales.

Console players have been allowed to purchase content in pieces through the appropriate Sony and Microsoft shops. For real money, and not BioWare monopoly bucks. In turn, console players missed out on some DLC content, such as Mass Effect 2 pre-order bonuses that have been repackaged into a DLC pack."

Great response to Ubisoft and their disgusting behavior. Ubisoft decide to take away DLC from people who paid for it, while EA give it for free to everyone when they realize their system sucks. Who would have thought that EA of all companies would be showing Ubisoft how it should be done (even if this is EA fixing their own mistakes as well).

Mobis-New-Nest1393d ago

What goes around comes around and I promise you, Ubisoft will see their actions blow back on them when their diminishing sales numbers and stock taking a hit downward. That's the only way a company learns when they decide to be reactive instead of proactive.

All BioWare Games Ranked from Worst to Best

BLG writes: "There was a time that BioWare games were the biggest deal in gaming. The Canadian developer’s legacy of all-time classics is well known. Mass Effect, Knights of the Old Republic, and Baldur’s Gate are some of the biggest names in gaming.

While BioWare’s quality has fallen off lately, there’s no denying the quality of titles in their portfolio. That’s why we’re going to dive in and rank every BioWare game from worst to best. By every, I do mean every BioWare game, even the ones you completely forgot about!"

Anthem is crazy underrated. I really enjoyed it. ME1 is Bioware's best imo

1552d ago Replies(1)
Michiel19891552d ago

I actually put quite a bit of hours into Anthem but i dont think its underrated. It was a huge mess, server issues, gameplay issues, crashes, no endgame loop, too few different enemies, uninteresting gear. too few dungeons.

It for sure had potential and if they could have managed to keep the same gameplay of the classes but without the rest of the issues, this game could have been huge, but in the state in which it launched it was such a letdown. They partly fixed some of the issues, but it took too long. A grinding game like this needs to hook players from day 1.
