Dark Souls Will Be “The Most Difficult Game”

“I have no intention to make the game any easier. In fact I want it to be more difficult,” director says.

Hidetaka Miyazaki, director of Demon’s Souls follow-up Dark Souls, says his team at From Software is not going to go any easier on players, saying that he wants the game to be “more difficult” than its predecessor.

“I have no intention to make the game any easier,” he tells us. “In fact, I want it to be more difficult. The way I put it to my team is that we are trying to make the most difficult game it is possible to make, which at the same time can be conquered by those who persevere. It has to be firm, but fair.”

why is this news under the xbox360 section. i thought dark souls was a ps3 exclusive

christheredhead5553d ago

dark souls will be multiplat. Demons souls was a ps3 exclusive and this game is not necessarily the sequel but more of a spiritual successor. We might see demons souls 2 at a later point in time.

Having a higher difficulty will pretty much secure a buy from me. Demons souls wasn't all that difficult but it was definitely challenging. As long as you took your time and went in with a sort of tactical approach it was a lot easier. Learn from your mistakes and demons souls was a bit more forgiving.

MAJ0R5552d ago

this game is going to have a checkpoint system, pretty much nerfs the difficulty but I guess they want to appeal to a wider audience

Neckbear5552d ago

@MAJ0R

The "checkpoints" were in Demon's Souls, too. Remember the stones that appeared after you beat a boss, that allowed you to go back to the Nexus? Deary me, I forgot their name...

Either way, yeah.

saladthieves5552d ago

I can tell you Demon's Souls is one of the HARDEST games I've played this generation. It's brutal, and unforgiving.

Nitrowolf25552d ago (Edited 5552d ago )

@ MAJOR

well if you were a cheater then there were checkpoints. All you had to do was when you died you quit the game as soon as the loading screen pops up. I will be honest i did this for bosses that i just didn't want to fight my way back to because i had so many souls and was afraid of dieing on the way to get them again. I only used this twice and that was on the swamp level, i got lost in the poison lake and didn't want to go through the hassle of finding the souls.

idk what they mean by check points in this, maybe they will be like DS1?

DaTruth5552d ago (Edited 5552d ago )

Also, some levels had doors you open that were like checkpoints or more short cuts; although, some of the tougher levels didn't have them!

edit:If you darkened your world and character tendencies in New game+, it was a total b!tch! I played my first time through without black character tendency at all to New game++++, but I needed my Foe's ring so my second character went to black character tendency and the difficulty is crushing!

Can't wait for this! Might even buy Two Worlds 2 just because it sort of reminds me of Demon's Souls!

Kalowest5552d ago

The harder the game, the funnier it is to me. I'm buying the limited edition Dark Souls, like i did for DS.

Toenado5552d ago (Edited 5552d ago )

@MAJ0R

The games leading developer Hidetaka Miyazaki stated in PS Magazine that "This time around there will be much more role playing and exploring as unlike its predecessor it won't be broken down into smaller levels, but will exist as much larger open worlds.

And Publisher Namco Bandai promises combat will be fearsome, with no safe harbors to rest.

Sounds good to me.

DigitalAnalog5552d ago

I wouldn't call them "checkpoints". Rather, they're openings to new levels. Since they don't have a chapter system like 1-1 in SMB, you always are thrown at the beginning of the level.

Dark souls was announced as a multiplat.

Solidus187-SCMilk5552d ago

I cant wait for this game. I loved demon's souls and cant wait for this similar game.

Prototype5552d ago

If I can beat D.S. I can beat this, may take some time though... The only game I cant beat is Mario Lost Levels (but I can beat the Mario Forever hack that was made a few years ago)

I already know some 360 people who's gonna avoid this because they feel the player base wont be as big

higher difficulty is not equivalent to a good game. Just because its being marketed as "harder" means little to nothing to me.

If this game is nothing more then a RIP of Demons Souls to Capitalize on its success, i'll most likely pass.

lastdual5552d ago (Edited 5552d ago )

I agree that harder isn't necessarily better, but I highly doubt this game will be a mere cash in.

From Software has already shown they know how to make challenging gameplay rewarding, and everything shown so far looks pretty awesome.

gcolley5552d ago

thanks for the heads up. think i'll pass. not interested in a game that wants to be the most difficult, not really why i play games.

christheredhead5552d ago

well truthfully its not necessarily gonna be difficult but challenging. its a very tactical game. you cant run around swinging your sword. you have to think about your actions. if you die its your own fault. there was never a time i died a cheap death in demons souls. it was always a mistake i made. so when you start over you're supposed to take a different approach and learn from your mistakes. they would take your currency away as sort of a slap on the wrist so you do better next time and take your time.

its not the kind of diffucitly that is imposed upon modern games. the kind of difficulty where you take 2 bullets and your dead or the enemies just spam grenades at you, thats a very cheap sort of difficulty.

Hoje03085552d ago

Fuck yeah! Demons Souls wasn't that hard as long as you were careful. Even if this is just more of the same, I'll still be satisfied.

Jezuz5552d ago

I never played Demon's Soul but is it harder than...Super meat boooy?

chiwoo5552d ago

Thats a true developer saying that now i am even more pumped for the game i can see reviews now for this game being trashed.

This feels like the epitome of a 'tepid take'. Dark Souls has always worn its gothic horror influences on its sleeve, it isn't exactly subtle.

"Like it or not its time to agree with me"

DarXyde207d ago

Dark fantasy, I'd say.

Horror is a bit much. Bloodborne is closer to horror.

gold_drake207d ago

mh ur right actually.

dark souls plays around with horror themes without being a straight "horror" game.

bloodborn definitely starts out as that haha.
