Bioware Locks Negative Threads, Alleges Spam

Bioware forum moderators have thrown down the gauntlet on the Bioware Social Network. Stanley Woo, a Bioware moderator, has locked in excess of forty threads criticizing the game, the development thereof, or the moderation of the forums; further still, the vast majority of threads that have been locked were legitimately critiquing the game's execution and offered suggestions for future patches...

So they are locking threads based on a bit of negative feedback on their game?

I honestly thought Bioware were better than that

MAJ0R5549d ago

looks like these super intelligent mods need to look up the definition of spam lmfao

teething5549d ago

I am all for game feedback, but keep it civil and constructive.

Bitching gets annoying. Put that energy into something useful like volunteering or politics. I have little sympathy about gripes of rpg mechanics. Look at the big picture.

tablav5549d ago

The bigger picture is the Bioware have been very cagey about revealing anything about Dragon Age 2. I think people are entitled to know why and censoring everything you can is probably not the way to go.

joydestroy5549d ago

i'd lock it too if people kept saying the exact same thing over and over again. i mean, who wants to hear ANYTHING repeated a crap ton of times???

i don't care what others or what reviewers say, i've gotten 5hrs of sleep each night for work since this game released because i think it's so awesome. even getting my @ss handed to me is fun lol

jeseth5549d ago

I still can't wait to play Dragon Age 2 despite all the luke warm reviews because I loved the first game so much.

But.

I can't get over how absurd (given the medevil/fantasy time in history) Hawke's hair looks. He looks like he just go out of a salon and his hair is full of product.

It annoys me like crazy.

Focker4205549d ago

Played the demo and thought it was garbage.

HolyOrangeCows5549d ago

It's MUCH easier to censor criticism than to address it.....or make a good game.

Vherostar5549d ago

disappointed really?? I think its great so far I'm like 4 hours through it but it's better than the first in terms of controls as in terms of gameplay it's more of the same with lots more added. I think the main problem is people didn't get what they wanted with DA2 and are spitting out there dummys.

frostypants5549d ago (Edited 5549d ago )

DA:O sucked. I had no real hopes for DA2.

The hilarious thing is they went from a ridiculously cumbersome combat system in DA:O to a ridiculously noobish one in DA2.

Let's just call it like it is: DA is not a good series. Both games are a complete unfocused mess from an overall design perspective.

Let it die, Bioware.

KotC5549d ago

I think EA is taking Bioware in the wrong direction

With the high volume of threads on their forums over the past 2 weeks, it is understandable that they would lock so many identical threads. There is no reason for each user to create a thread about their impressions and what they like or would fix. There should be one mega-thread for people's general impression discussion, and there probably is, but it is buried under the huge volume of threads.

Most of the threads are about how Bioware sucks and abandoned the hardcore gamer and is a huge failure. That's not exactly constructive criticism. There is a difference between whining and crying that you are betrayed and you want to them to patch the game immediately or refund your money, and offering some constructive criticism on some design decisions that you didn't agree with and here are some ways that might improve it.

As a mod here on N4G, I can definitely sympathize with Bioware over having to manage the influx of hate, while still trying to provide an open place for constructive criticism.

WhiteNoise5549d ago

If the game is so broken that it needs immediate patching....and people paid $60U.S for a game that doesn't work, then they have every right to DEMAND a patch.

A lot of people are saying that the PS3 version freezes every 15 minutes or so. I'd be pissed too.

Don't feel sorry for the moderators because they have to do work, feel sorry for the consumers that had to do work to earn their money that they paid for a broken product with.

scruffy_bear5549d ago

Have had no problems with the PS3 version so far

Columbo5549d ago

I have had zero problems with the PS3 version so far as well. As with any game that comes out, you always hear stories of "X game caused my system to RROD." Maybe there are problems, I'll have to wait and see.

I was referring to users that demand Bioware go back to the old inventory system, etc. People may like or not like the new system, but the sort of self-entitlement attitude does not help get their point across in a constructive manner.

kingdavid5549d ago (Edited 5549d ago )

If this game was called Dragon Age : kirkwall and sold as a tie in game you'd see it recieved alot better. I think its just the fact people expect alot MORE from a sequel.

Bioware couldve learnt from the success of assassins creed brotherhood (even if DA2 was announced before) which was well recieved and sold shitloads. If it was called assassins creed 3, what it have done as well? Im not so sure.

ReBurn5549d ago

Tons of games come with release day patches and nobody complains, especially for exclusives. We've come to accept this in the current generation. I don't see how it is different with this game.

Also, caveat emptor. I've stopped buying games on release day because I want to make sure that things work as expected when I put my money down. If more people waited to buy these companies might get the message that shipping glitches isn't acceptable. Otherwise they become complacent in the quality area because they know people will buy their stuff no matter how they ship it. Until then, I won't buy until I know it works, and they may lose my money to a competitor in the meantime.

Pillage055549d ago

About 10 hours in on ps3 version and haven't had a single freeze.

jack_burt0n5549d ago

the 360 version is the one with the problems its crashing and having severe FPS problems.

RedDead5549d ago

Well...it would be nice to get a Hardcore RPG off them again. They're taking the Casual route with ME2 and DA2 now. They're also copying Wow with SW ToR apparently. DA:O was hardcore but lacked any form of polish

joydestroy5549d ago

this are my thoughts as well.

also, no issues on PC thus far either. i don't see anything that needs patching...
or why people are complaining...

tubers5549d ago (Edited 5549d ago )

If they explain "HOW/WHY" it sucks, they could still carry several disappointing truths/points about the sequel in a constructive way.

If there's massive btching, then there's something really wrong.

smashman985549d ago

Its sad but thats the way alot of people are

this is a product they created. Its their game not our game but gamers think just because they like a franchise they can shape it to be whatever they want

which was evident in
FFXIII
DmC
Infamous 2 etc

ppl need to just stop but they wont and the fact is if u dont like the waya game looks or ploays you dont have to buy it. On top of that DA2 isn't a bad game

Pillage055549d ago (Edited 5549d ago )

I kind of feel bad for developers today. Almost every big release these days, the devs forums will fill up with whiny bitches telling the dev how to do their job. It has got to be frustrating to put so much work into a game then see your so called fans rip you a new one over and over.

Online versus games like shooters get it the worst though. Every joe nobody on the internet thinks they know how to balance a shooter better than the professionals.

Edit: constructive criticism isn't a bad thing. Just be aware of how you are wording it.

smashman985549d ago

yyup exactly plus bub man

Kran5549d ago (Edited 5549d ago )

Seriously, and I dont mean to be a jackass, but some people need to grow up for god sake.

Dragon Age II is not a horrible game. People were spamming Metacritic giving it bad reviews while proper users were giving it good reviews, and now the game is down to 30%. Bioware make some fantastic games, and this isnt short of one either. Why is it every other Bioware game is suddenly fantastic, and get DAII isnt to people?

It might not be Dragon Age Origins. Honestly, I did enjoy Origins, but I felt the story was quite slow, and the combat was wasted on the console version. I played the Dragon Age II demo and it felt like the combat was so much more slicker.

BK-2015549d ago

The real fans have spoken, I think its a good thing.

frostypants5549d ago

"Why is it every other Bioware game is suddenly fantastic, and get DAII isnt to people? "

Because those people don't like it. You assume anyone who says they don't like it don't know what they're talking about. Could it be that they're actually right? You acknowledge that other Bioware games don't get this kind of criticism, so the answer is right in front of you: DA2 just isn't a very good game, however much you wish it were.

tablav5549d ago (Edited 5549d ago )

I have split opinions on this.

You could say that people are being too critical and the mods are justified, but in the same vein as a creative, you need to be able to take criticism and build on it.

This, paired with the review embargo on the game until AFTER the release date, makes me VERY concerned about this game. It sounds like the publishers want people to have no access to the game before purchase unless it shows it in a bad light.

Dragon Age Lead Says Including World State Reactivity Felt Like It Was "Irrelevant Or Not Enough"

Dragon Age 2 set the precedent that the series would always carry our choices over, but was it worth it?

If the choices won't matter, why bother? Bioware works so hard at giving meaningful choices but rarely if ever carrying out the impact of such choices to the end.

EA Made Dragon Age and Mass Effect DLC Free On PC By Retiring The BioWare Points System

Immersed Gamer writes: "In order to replace the oppressive BioWare Points system, EA is making a large portion of the Mass Effect and Dragon Age DLC catalogs free for PC users.

For those of you blissfully unaware, EA and BioWare employed a payment system called BioWare Points on PC to pay for DLCs for titles like Mass Effect and Dragon Age. While PC gamers have been struggling with BioWare point’s unfair conversion rates and extremely scarce and cost-detrimental sales.

Console players have been allowed to purchase content in pieces through the appropriate Sony and Microsoft shops. For real money, and not BioWare monopoly bucks. In turn, console players missed out on some DLC content, such as Mass Effect 2 pre-order bonuses that have been repackaged into a DLC pack."

Great response to Ubisoft and their disgusting behavior. Ubisoft decide to take away DLC from people who paid for it, while EA give it for free to everyone when they realize their system sucks. Who would have thought that EA of all companies would be showing Ubisoft how it should be done (even if this is EA fixing their own mistakes as well).

Mobis-New-Nest1402d ago

What goes around comes around and I promise you, Ubisoft will see their actions blow back on them when their diminishing sales numbers and stock taking a hit downward. That's the only way a company learns when they decide to be reactive instead of proactive.

All BioWare Games Ranked from Worst to Best

BLG writes: "There was a time that BioWare games were the biggest deal in gaming. The Canadian developer’s legacy of all-time classics is well known. Mass Effect, Knights of the Old Republic, and Baldur’s Gate are some of the biggest names in gaming.

While BioWare’s quality has fallen off lately, there’s no denying the quality of titles in their portfolio. That’s why we’re going to dive in and rank every BioWare game from worst to best. By every, I do mean every BioWare game, even the ones you completely forgot about!"

Anthem is crazy underrated. I really enjoyed it. ME1 is Bioware's best imo

1561d ago Replies(1)
Michiel19891561d ago

I actually put quite a bit of hours into Anthem but i dont think its underrated. It was a huge mess, server issues, gameplay issues, crashes, no endgame loop, too few different enemies, uninteresting gear. too few dungeons.

It for sure had potential and if they could have managed to keep the same gameplay of the classes but without the rest of the issues, this game could have been huge, but in the state in which it launched it was such a letdown. They partly fixed some of the issues, but it took too long. A grinding game like this needs to hook players from day 1.
