I'm all for Sony for stopping piracy in THIS generation, but my hope is that everything they're learning will go toward their next system, making it even more secure without sacrificing any features.

I need help with this. Recently, I decided to upgrade my old PS3 80GB Hard drive. I did an entire backup using the utility in the system settings, prepared to replace my old 80GB with a 1TB one, but then I did the dumbest thing: I destroyed everything that was on the 80GB hard drive right after removing it, without making sure that the new 1TB is formatted and fully working in the PS3!

Karma bit me in the ass! Remember the whole problem about the system update 3.56 preventing hard drive upgrades? That's precisely what happened. I boot the PS3, it detects that the hard drive inside needs formatting. It asks for the update software on the removable media (ver. 3.56 or above). I follow all procedures and end up with an error (8002F225) about data corruption...The thing is there are two different versions of 3.56:

-3.56 version 1 (original) is the one that caused the PS3s to refuse HDD upgrades.

-3.56 version 2 (a revision) solved these problems BUT, it is only available through updating your PS3 via an internet connection.
The update listed on the PS website is still 3.56 version 1 instead of version 2 and therefore refuses to format the hard drive and always reports with a data corrupted error (8002F225).

So, version 2, which fixes these issues is ONLY available on the PS3 via the internet. The one on the PSN website is version 1. My PS3 doesn't work, so I can't access the internet...I can't replace the HDD and put in the old 80GB HDD because I had already taken it out and formatted it (externally on my computer).

Question is: Does this firmware 3.60 fix this issue if I were to download it and put it on a flash drive?? Anyone tried this yet?

Nothing is unhackable. This will turn out the same way as last time. Hackers will always find "the back door" if thats the way to put it.

Its not "unhackable" but the current loaders dont work. Which means Timmy cant be cool ruining Modern Warfare 2 anymore until the "cool" hackers release new tools to easily "hack" any system again. They have to rebuild it from the ground up. It wont be as hard or take as long as they know what to do now, but Sony has measures in place and is taking legal actions against anyone releasing anything. so have fun trying.

if the hackers are actually smart, which doesnt seem to be the case with Geohot, then they will hack it again but keep the hack to themselves and let Sony and all the little timmies believe it isn't hacked. Theny they get to keep it hacked without causing a big deal.

everything is hackable it just takes time and effort.
the ps3 was un-hackable before it was hacked.
the point is if somebody really wants to hack the ps3 they will, people have hacked bigger things then the ps3 lol.

The only way to stOp hackers is to change the language of programing , kind of like talking in code , for example the writting in dead space it's in a weird alien language but translated in normal alphabet .

And on a side note, LOL to whoever is comparing this to some type of organized crime ring. You don't have to hack your PS3 if you don't want to, and other people doing it put you in no danger. Both of these should work towards less hacking attempts. However it could also achieve the opposite.

Good for Sony, but I wouldn't say "unhackable" yet because you know there's some nerd whose only goal in life (since they never had one before the PS3 came out, or rather, after the removal of OtherOS) is to try and "hack" the new firmware. I just wish either one of 2 things would happen:

1) Sony is able to either completely stop this hacking shit so we can get worthwhile system updates, or trace a PS3 and just brick it once a red flag goes up on a tampered system (waiting for the floods of disagrees...)

2) This site would actually REPORT NEWS and not rely on opinion pieces from "the opposition" (360 bias reporters submitting PS3 "news" and vise-versa, or hack supporters submitting stories on updates they claim WILL be hacked within hours, whether or not it is) for hits (as in, hire some real gaming journalists to report news, because this shits out of control and needs to be moderated or SHUT DOWN COMPLETELY!)

MW2 had a server side update way before this firmware that fixed all the cheating and glitching.

Wow, they got to hack the PS3 for a whole 3 months after working years to try and hack it. And honestly who thought that a bunch of losers were going to take down a giant in the technology industry anyways. Better luck next time Geosnot.

Sony is full of WIN today. Wins over LG and has hackers back on their heels. Now we wait to see how long the 3.6 update lasts.

MLB 11: The Show and a few other games came with 3.56 and were made to work on 3.55 in a few hours.

So you guys are wrong, hackers can play any games on 3.55. Even games that aren't out and would requires higher firmware like 3.60, 4.00, 5.00 or even 232.00 could be made to work on 3.55.

In other words, hackers aren't missing out on anything as they can play every games.

It also works like that for PSP. GAmes that come out today and requires 6.35 or above can be played on 5.00 with a fix.

Same thing for the Wii, even though they try to put the update on disc, the backup can easily be patched to remove the update and play on any firmware.

Same thing will undoubtely happen with the 3DS. Nintendo think they can brick your console with updates, but if you get a flashcart in the future, no need to upgrade as games can be made to work on the old firmwares.

I'm glad they made it secure, but nothing is unhackable. That's stupid to even say.

Sony has to make sure games requiring 3.60 should not require it "just on paper" and they need to hook to 3.60 specific functions, so fooling these games to work on older games should be harder.

Sony's not giving an inch to hackers so I don't know why anyone would waste their energy on this. If 3.60 is hacked Sony will just release 3.61 and so on and so forth. This cycle will never end.
