PS3 Firmware 3.60 Unhackable?

According to PS3 hacker Youness Alaoui, known as KakARoToKS, PS3 firmware 3.60 has a completely revamped security architecture model that does not use the exploited and compromised loaders, and therefore unhackable.

Not hard owning 2 ps3's one for online another for SP games, though yea new games wont be playable.

Dante1125470d ago (Edited 5470d ago )

KakARoToKS: Wow, in 3.60, Sony removed all the loaders, no more isoldr/lv1ldr/lv2ldr/appldr.. but they added lv0.2! Seems they found a way to secure ps3.

KakARoToKS:We already have the metldr key, the thing is that they don’t use metldr anymore, at all!"

"A dumbed down explanation of the PS3 security is such that PS3 loads metldr at some point which than launches all the OS and game loaders, which the hackers were able to bypass. It was shown in fail0verfl0w presentations that metldr cannot be changed, so the PS3 would be vulnerable forever. It appears that Sony has found a way to bypass metldr, and if they properly signed their code this time, it should be secure once again."

Sweet, I hope it really is that secure but we will see in the coming days.

Keep buying those games and supporting devs i like my high quality ps3 exclusives and it seems there going to keep coming props to sony for chasing these hackers down like the organised crime rings they are and patching back up the loop hole that gave the a buy

Dragun6195470d ago

Well, looks like Sony was able to find a solution after all, even though those hackers claimed that Sony can't doing anything about it.

SpitFireAce855470d ago

Yeah i hope as well..but dont get your hopes up
since i believe nothing is hacker proof..

Pixelated_Army5470d ago (Edited 5470d ago )

Good. With Sony in constant communication with your PS3 you're basically f***ed. So give it up kiddies.

Rynx5470d ago (Edited 5470d ago )

This isn't going to stop attention whore hackers from rapid posting fake news about finding a way around this...

I'll give it half a day before an article on N4G titled: "Firmware 3.60 is Hacked!" shows up and then reaches over 500 degrees...

Only for it to be proven false (and mocked) in a different article hours after that. Yet by then the "Hacked!" article will have reached 800 degrees.

*sigh

I'm depressing my own self just typing this because IT WILL happen(again!)... This deranged charade has got to stop.

Istanbull5470d ago (Edited 5470d ago )

I also got 2 PS3's, 1 for my PS3 exclusives and playing online with my friends. The other for homebrew and emulators.

I hope 3.60 completly shuts down pirates from playing any games or accesssing the PSN, who do they think they are? Freedom fighters? Lmao!

Oh yeah, and where are those little hacker freaks with no social life claiming PS3 security was epic fail? You got owned baby!

EYEamNUMBER15470d ago

raise your hand if you actually think 3.60 is unhackable mmk if you raised your hand your an idiot

i honestly can't help but think someone is completely retarded when they use the word unhackable

BattleAxe5470d ago

I was wondering why it was taking so long to install this update.

rockleex5470d ago

Sony has updated the PS3 to allow TIGER BLOOD to run through its veins!

Its security is now a totally different beast!

meetajhu5470d ago

Kakarotoks doesn't know shit wait till our Lord Geohot responds!

nveenio5470d ago

I hope it makes a difference...at least for a little while. Two different types of cracks will just confuse anyone trying to crack their system, and that will hopefully lead to them messing their own system up for good.

Crazyglues5470d ago

Sony : 2

Hackers : 0

OWNED!!!

Perjoss5470d ago

I'm pretty sure Sony thought firmware 1.00 was 'unhackable' also.

Simon_Brezhnev5470d ago

but blaze claimed sony cant find a solution

sikbeta5470d ago (Edited 5470d ago )

That's a kick in the face of those loser-hackers, keep away of the PS3, we get loads of Awesome Quality Games, we don't need those losers to screw that for PS3 owners and before someone says, "they don't pirate games" I don't give a DAMN! they may not do it, but they help lame douche-pirates to steal and play games for free...

Mahr5469d ago

No worries. This too shall pass. :-)

DeFFeR5469d ago

Not that I think it will happen right away - but nothing is "unhackable". I don't like it when things are hacked for malicious purposes (aka stealing) but it's kinda cool to see what people can do with different things on their own time for personal (read: themselves - no sharing) use and enjoyment.

pixelsword5469d ago

Aren't Apple computers (at least some types) unhackable?

owning 2 consoles, 1 for online MP, 1 for offline SP. whats the point of that? if you not playing "backups" you have nothing to hide. and if it is a "backup" then you still gonna need the actual game disc to work in your online machine.

P.S - in this case, backups = pirated games, as in all other cases.

Perjoss5470d ago

not that I support piracy in any way at all, but buying a 2nd console to play pirate single player games turns out a lot cheaper than if you buy the games. Obviously this depends on how many single player games you ant to play over the course of the consoles life.

lets say you paid £425 for your ps3 (close to launch) you'd only need to pirate and play 11 single player games (retailing at £40) for the 2nd ps3 to pay for itself.

nycredude5470d ago

You are forgetting something. That logic only makes sense if you are pirating new full price games, which is made obsolete with the newest firmware. you are now relegated to older games that runs on older firmware.

If it stays this way you logic is flawed because you can get most of those older games at very low prices now.

Mahr5469d ago

"owning 2 consoles, 1 for online MP, 1 for offline SP. whats the point of that?"

One system that runs all the features of custom firmware, one system that gets to play new games and access the PSN.

"if you not playing "backups" you have nothing to hide."

That would only be true if Sony actually cared to distinguish between those using modded systems to run benign Homebrew applications (Linux, XBMC, custom soundtracks, HDD installs, etc) and those using it for evil (i.e., piracy and online cheating).

Electroshocked5470d ago

I think that new games that come out will require this update or the latest update to be playable, therefore I don't think you will be able to play any new games.

TheHardware5470d ago

Thank goodness....I Think I want to beat up a hacker...is that a biased crime?

suicidalblues5470d ago

I'd hold the bitch down for you.

SlyFoxC5470d ago

lets do this shit....everyone else....look away

ugabugaz5470d ago

I think who you're mad at are pirates. Hackers are the ones that only find a way into a closed system. I've personally benefited greatly from hack invented software, especially on say the psp. Wouldn't want to live in a hacker free society, definitely not.

iamtehpwn5470d ago

Defeat the current hack? Yes.
Unhackable? LOL. If government computers can be hacked, anything can.

ToastyMcNibbles5470d ago (Edited 5470d ago )

That's what I'm thinking too. It's unfortunate but I guarantee you in a couple of hours we'll get an article here saying "PS3 Firmware 3.60 Hacked".

xAlmostPro5470d ago

just because he used the unhackable doesn't mean that, it can't still be hacked.. however.. if this is true it's going to take a long time for hackers to work out a new way to do it now..

by which time sony could already re-change everything again etc

coldfoot5470d ago

Exactly, all the work that's been done by the jailbreak guys, fail0verfl0w guys, and geohot has been negated, if this is indeed true and they'll have to start all over again. Not to mention much fewer people will try now due to Sony's legal threats.

awesomeperson5470d ago

The question is how LONG it will take to rehack it.

I hope its years but it'l be more like days or weeks XD

Dark_king5470d ago

wasn't really ever hacked. The got a hold of the keys to sign programs to run.

Kakkoii5470d ago

Government computers tend to be outdated pieces of shit, since they almost never feel the need to upgrade their computer, nor do they want to spend the money on it. Most government computers are notoriously insecure lol.

Dark_king5470d ago

Really,I would say most really are. However certain branches do have some pretty nice tech. How many people have really hacked the army, airforce are navy computers.

sehnsucht5470d ago

No kidding!

Note: Your avatar gets you bonus points on your post, being based on the old P4 logo!

@Dark_king,
Isn't the Army the branch that loses a laptop with top secret data every other month?

nycredude5470d ago

I think you guys are giving too much credit to government computers. Like most government they are overbudget, and painfully behind in their online security. Banks are way more secured than government computers.
