Not everybody will be at home with Killzone 3’s expanded campaign palette and pulp sci-fi space marine fiction, but there is no denying that Guerrilla has mastered its specific run-and-gun tactical shooter formula with this release. Combat can be deeply satisfying against either AI or human opposition, and all that’s lacking are player-controlled characters that people can really care about.
Maybe that’ll come with their next franchise, but for now Killzone 3’s superlative multiplayer is the pinnacle of its many achievements, and something for the developer to be justly proud of. It’s a game that deserves to be played by any curious shooter fan, and a good yardstick for the technologies shoehorned therein.

PS1 era was full of great RPGs, PS2 was racing generation i would pick top 200 and even that would be just a fraction.
The Amsterdam-based studio reflects on its humble beginnings, beloved franchises, and growth through the years.
Up there with the top tier in the industry. Love Guerrilla Games - Horizon Burning Shores is simply STUNNING.
32.7M sales in the Horizon franchise! With 8.4M coming from Forbidden West alone! Truly a hugely successful game and franchise as a whole. Looking forward to Horizon III
Yooo, when I first saw that Killzone 1 footage at E3, my friends my brothers and I were like, Holy shit! When it came out, it didn't look exactly like it, but we sunk so many hours into 1 & 2.
I even liked Killzone: SF, it was a spectacle to look at, and even today it looks good. I hope they make a new one. Can you imagine how that will look, and they can get some modern FPS pointers from Bungie.
Such a wonderful studio. They deserve all their success.
The Decima Engine is absolute 🔥 I'm just mad they have abandoned Killzone.
DSOGaming writes: "While Sony does not plan to release Killzone 3 on the PC, Yahfz shared a video that gives us a glimpse at what such a PC version could look like."
PC almost always ends up the best place to play games, even if it takes a while.
What would you rather play decades down the line? A game at a fixed resolution and frame, considering you have a working disc, and the hardware?
Or run it on an emulator that can update the experience all around, and let you use whatever control input you prefer?
If you insist on the former, it's really only for the sake of nostalgia.
The RPCS3 devs are doing great work. And Kami works nicely with it too it seems.
Very neat.
It is an amazing game.
for all these reviews etc talking about the tech of killzone 3, i was pretty confused when i put it in my PS3 and found that most of what made Killzone 2 look good was virtually gone.
the lighting seems to have taken the biggest hit. where are the god rays? where are the (admittedly over-used and not-realistic, but still awesome looking) lens-flare effects that were all over the place in KZ2? where is the over-abundance of motion blur? where is the depth of field when aiming down the sights? and for as bad as Quincunx AA is, at least it got rid of the jaggies - KZ3 looks like it doesnt even have AA most of the time! its one situation where this MLAA doesnt cut the mustard. it might work in GoW3 where its a fixed camera angle, but it certainly doesnt here.
they seem to have nearly completely removed all of those things. the way that motion blur abruptly comes on when you sprint, then just cuts out jarringly a half a second after you stop looks amateurish. the way if you position your gun in front of a light source to cover it up, all traces of that light just disappear instead of just being covered by the gun look last-gen. the way that when you aim down the sights of your gun, theres no depth of field blurring happening......how did they manage to stuff that up so badly?
GG talked about how they moved so much stuff from the GPU to the CPU for KZ3, but it seems like whenever they move something to the CPU it loses its sheen because all of a sudden its not being done by something thats sole purpose is to do graphics.
Killzone 2 actually looks noticeably better than Killzone 3 IMO. dont get me wrong - im having MUCH more fun with Killzone 3 though. the removal of the 200ms of input lag was the best thing they couldve done, and that alone makes it the better game to play. the multiplayer, while dumbed down with a LOT of features removed, has already held my attention longer than Killzone 2s because the balancing of classes is better (though still needs work).
but graphically, in every way apart from texture detail, Killzone 3 is a step back from Killzone 2.
