Nintendo 3DS vs NGP

Now it's official: the new generation of consoles has arrived. Ok, in smaller version - or pocket version, if you prefer - but the truth is that the much awaited future of video games is just a few months ahead of us. Now that Nintendo and Sony have announced their upcoming handhelds, we also have sure that a market war will be fought again

Nintendo 3DS. Care to debate about it?

RedDead5590d ago (Edited 5590d ago )

Control scheme and graphics of NGP > 3DS imo.

I'll end up getting both, I won't be using 3d though.

TXIDarkAvenger5590d ago

Look at the line-up of 3DS is compared to NGP.
Why would anyone want to play an Uncharted port from the PS3 on the NGP with toned down graphics, might as well just buy a ps3 and play it on that. The games on 3DS are different from whats on Wii but the NGP games look like ports from PS3.

mrv3215590d ago

Hmm...

I don't know about you but so far I am unable to carry my PS3 around on a bus with a 32inch TV. Hence why the NGP is cool. For example, I can facebook on my desktop so why do I need it on my phone?

5590d ago
TheFact0035590d ago

@AnimeAvenger,why would you wanna play MGS on 3DS with dumbed down graphics, just buy a PS3.
Why would you wanna play SSFIV on 3DS with dumbed down graphics? Just buy a PS3. It works both ways:) (Don't use 3D as an excuse because so far we havent heard anything positive about it.) and if you're gonna talk about story as an excuse, that can be applied to Uncharted, Resistance, Killzone, etc.

NGP for me, I can't stand watching 3d so 3ds is automatically a no-no for me. Besides I like the fact that NGP has more buttons than the 3ds, I prefer buttons to touch screen when it comes to games.

gamerben5590d ago

Uhh... the NGP has a touchscreen doesn't it? And "More buttons" hasn't been a big deal since 2000, at least on home consoles.

Caleb_1415590d ago

Considering that the Uncharted game you speak of will be a brand new game, not simply a port shows how well informed you are around the whole debate...

TXIDarkAvenger5590d ago (Edited 5590d ago )

Yeah I looked at the line-up. How can u say 3DS line up is shit except RE?
Blazblue
Street Fighter
Resident Evil
Dead or Alive
Kid Icarus
Kingdom Hearts
Mario Kart
Megaman Legends 3
Metal Gear Solid
Paper Mario
Super Mario
Starfox 64
Zelda
Your saying those games r bad? And these are the only ones confirmed so far and the 3DS was released about a month ago.
Lets look at NGP
Killzone
Little Big Planet
Untitled Hideo Kojima game
Resistance
Uncharted
Oh great line-up Sony.

Caleb_1415590d ago

The 3DS has been released, whereas the NGP will be released at the end of this year... I don't recall Nintendo announcing all of their day-one games 9-10 months before the 3DS's release... do you? hurr durr

5590d ago
Skullomania5590d ago

I don't know how you manage to come up with Sony games lineup for NGP, i suggest you wait for E3 2011. I can't wait for Hideo Kojima to finally unveil his new game on the NGP at E3 2011.

GodofSackboy5590d ago

Why would I want to play dumbed down Mario on 3ds? Why would i want to play a dumbed down MGS3 on 3ds when I could play a good port of MGS4 on NGP? Why would I want to play the same nintendo games I've been playing since 1984 without introducing any new characters? Why would I want my eyes ruined? Why would i want one analog stick? Why would I want ps2-graphics?

damnyouretall5589d ago

who cares who wins the handheld market. i have a day one preorder ngp waiting for me. thats all i give a shit about. and yes the ngp is better than the 3ds in every way. but it will never out sell the 3ds,,ever.

How many of these articles do we need?
They're both gonna be good. End of.

Kran5590d ago

How many times must I state? NGP on day 1, 3DS in 20 years!

gamerben5590d ago

Man there are a lot of sony fanboys on this site...

*two days later, comment removed*

jwk945590d ago

Nope, i refuse to belive that we can do this yet. Both consoles haven't been released, and the press hasn't had enough time with the NGP, i mean come on people, at least make it a fair fight, that's like doing inFAMOUS 2 VS Prototype 2 right now, it's just not needed, wait until both things are released.

Kran5590d ago

Technically, 3DS is already out.... in japan. And already its getting hate AFTER its released.

Thats what I always say. 10 minutes with the 3DS isnt enough time to make judgement. You have to wait before your eyes are fully burned out before you make the full judgement.

jwk945590d ago (Edited 5590d ago )

I wasn't talking about the 3DS though dude, i was talking about the NGP, both products aren't out on the market, therefore a fair comparison between them both isn't possible. Although honestly, I'd probably purchase the NGP, not much of a nintendo person anymore, but it all depends on the price. Although, i do really want the remastered OOT and MQ and the new Mario game looks pretty tight, oh well, no sweat there's plenty of time to make a decision, just gotta wait for the list of games coming out for the NGP on and a few months after launch.

@Canana, what do you mean that both can do a good job? The consoles or the comparison??

Neo Nugget5590d ago

I do think it's funny that so many people rip the 3DS apart here, while any mention of the NGP is met with a flurry of agrees.

Looks like PlayStation took a hit with Marathon and is now quietly adjusting prices worldwide to recover the losses

andy8558d ago

Lets be honest raising prices doesn't do that when no one's buying it. I imagine the profit it greater selling 10 times more at a lower price

Pergele57d ago

Whatever you say buddy, let's all wear the tinfoil hats.

IceKoldKilla57d ago (Edited 57d ago )

LMFAO Your comment alone says a lot more about you than anything else. When has one game not selling 10 million copies made a company raise the prices of their console? Then Xbox would be costing $5000 by now lol. You remind of the crazy drug addicts on the street rambling on about conspiracies. xD You sure you don't need a hug, buddy?

ChunkyMonk57d ago

One game that Sony payed $200 million for. lol
Also, you sure were quick to get triggered. Maybe your the one who needs a hug?

Eonjay57d ago

If nothing else, we should be united against the real issue here. AI and unnecessary tariffs that are effecting all gamers.

Athlon10158d ago (Edited 58d ago )

The price increases are due to the RAM demand associated with AI and the US-Iran war. You can look to any business news website and local news to see that. Heck, even the 2026 Asus Zenbook Duo I've been eyeing has faced delays and has had a price increase of $400; that laptop has two specs. Asus is doing a staggered release with per-orders for the lower spec now and shipping in May and pre-orders for the higher spec that I'm eyeing starting in June. Basically, all computer manufactures are affected. It'll most likely start affecting smart phones too if it hasn't already. I can't remember the last time any major console maker (Nintendo, Sony, Sega, etc) increased the price of their console mid cycle outside of Microsoft just to make more profit.

S2Killinit57d ago

Its not the war. Its the RAM issue.

jznrpg57d ago

War is causing gas prices to rise. Transport of everything requires gas so the prices of those items go up as well. So it does have an impact

Athlon10157d ago (Edited 57d ago )

The blockage of the Straight of Hormuz due to the US-Iran war has affected raw components used in semi-conductor manufacturing such as bromine, aluminum, and helium. Iran had attacked the liquified natural gas (LNG) plant in Qatar which is a large producer (1/3 globally) of helium which is used in semiconductor etching. So it's the both the war and the RAM crises.

badz14958d ago

Oh no...should I get the Pro now before the price increase?

I dont think that'll ever happen. But i must say back in the day, they were definitely trying because they were more cash rich than their competitors.

CosmicTurtle71d ago

I think MS were and still are the richer company. They tried to acquire Sega back in the day (and considered doing so again more recently), they obviously bought exclusivity to Halo which was originally shown as a Mac title. I don’t think as a company MS can claim the moral high ground here. It’s a wilful lack of self awareness.

Of course Sony would try exactly the same if they had the resources, but when the PS2 dominated the industry was in a much healthier place with an abundance of great third parties.

This has been a depressing generation as far as first party decisions are concerned. The fact we are debating business plans rather than which game is better is a sad reflection of the state of things.

Darkseeker71d ago (Edited 71d ago )

There was Nintendo as well, Sony wouldn't have had a monopoly. In fact, the world would be better today if Xbox never existed in the first place. They pretty much brought all bad practices we have today. We might have gotten all of it either way, but not this early. In term of franchises, I don't think there is anything Microsoft released that would actually be missed if it didn't exist. Even Halo the world wouldn't notice if Halo didn't exist.

S2Killinit71d ago

MS was definitely a bad influence on gaming.

raWfodog71d ago

I think almost everyone will agree that a monopoly is not good for the industry. But that being said, the competition needs to be smart and strategic with their business. Simply buying up publishers and traditional third-party studios just to keep them out of the other companies reach is not a sustainable practice. That goes for all parties so don't think I'm just referring to Xbox.

I'm no business guru by any stretch of the imagination but I firmly believe that the best way to drive consumers to your software and hardware is to invest smart in your first-party studios. Give them full support and guidance in making unique, fun games that are only available to play in your ecosystem and the gamers will come.

Reaper22_71d ago (Edited 71d ago )

But first party studios aren't enough. They only make up a small portion of the industry. Without 3rd party there would be no industry for Microsoft or sony.Developing games take time and money and sometimes you gotta make moves to stay competitive.

raWfodog71d ago

Nah, I never said first-party was enough. I said it’s the ‘best way’ to drive gamers to your platform. 3rd-party is a free-for-all and there’s no guarantee that gamers will use your hardware to play the game. If you want to push your own software and/or hardware you need first-party, or at least exclusive deals with third-party studios.

SimpleDad71d ago

They Shure did a great job... 25 years later Xbox is dead.

Reaper22_71d ago

Then why be so emotional and continue to talk about it. Xbox will never die be ause it stays in so many people's head.

lodossrage71d ago

How can you even see him being "emotional" in that comment?

If anything, you're the emotional one, constantly trying to go at anyone that says anything against Microsoft. So when you call him emotional, it comes off as deflection

Elda71d ago

I own an XBSX & I can say it's becoming irrelevant out of the 3 current consoles.

U.S. patent examiner rejects Nintendo’s summoning characters patent as obvious: non-final ruling

The rejection is non-final (and even when such rejections are labeled as “final”, the process is far from over, given that there can be, at minimum, an appeal to the Federal Circuit).

Good, as they should! A game mechanic like that shouldn't be locked behind a patent, and Nintendo didn't invent it either.

PRIMORDUS83d ago (Edited 83d ago )

Nintendo wants to keep wasting money on bullshit lawsuits, real smart in this economy. They should put that money aside for other game projects. On the other hand, I don't care if they waste it all either, and they are screwed in the future maybe that will teach them a lesson.
