i see that these predictions are clearely by someone unbiased and not effected by history and older way of thinking. i am lovin the ps3 actually outselling the Wii by the end. i would like to find out what games are going to elevate the ps3 sales by so much and if they are in abundance because so far i only seen 2. have we been sleeping under a rock and ps3 is doign something extroordinary that we are aware of or is it pure bullcrap ps2->ps3 similarities being used??

I think he's wrong, but its interesting. perhaps one thing worth looking at is the prediction of DS sales. He's predicting it will sell more than the PS2, and quickly (2011) dethrone it as the best selling console of all time, though there are no preditions of the PS3, 360, or Wii passing it up.

I also think its strange to say the Wii "fad" will only last a few more years. That would mean Wii sales would drop off a year or so before the next Nintendo console will come. That's not unexpected.

I'm also not so sure about the PS3 being "broader appealing" than the Wii. I suppose the games target hardcore gamers and the extras attract non-gamers, but the games alone just target one small group. Wii games target hardcore gamers, casual gamers, and a few even target non-gamers. The PS3 gives very little to the casual gamer, so how is the PS3 "broader appealing" unless we look at the non-gamer that Sony loses money on?

The PS3 is also supposed to be generating more software sales per console than the Wii, but why will it take so long for this to happen, and why will it start in 2009, after developers have shifted support to the Wii? If the PS3 attach rate is lower than the Wii now, it has little chance of catching up in the future. Perhaps what he means to say is that PS3 games will have more money spent on them than Wii games, but that's not an accurate comparison.

I just don't see the logic behind most of what he says. The Wii and 360 are likely to get the majority of support from developers due to the ease of making a game on the system and better install base, which leads to less-than-great sales of the PS3 to keep going on the track its on, or lower, and increased sales of the Wii and 360.

The winner of the 360/Wii race is more likely to be decided by the acceptance of the 360 by a more casual crowd, and a developer making casual games besides sports games for it. The 360 could beat out the Wii if it can appeal to as many people and keep the core an option on which to play all games, but it is somewhat doubtful that the 360 can get the casual crowd on board due to the image they have created for themselves already.

think about it, by 2009, the 360's price will hit sub $200 and enters the mainstream.

they are essentially predicting the 360 will sell at the same rate at $200 as it was at $400.

These are crazy numbers. This guy is clueless. If you look at his numbers, He has the PS3, for instance, selling roughly 31 million units in 2K8 and 2K9 alone... That's about 1.3 million a month on average starting Jan 1, 2008. There is no freaking way. It might ramp up to that kind of number from where we are now, but if it spends any time in ramp up, it will be more like 2M/month to get there... This guy is a bonehead.

It is obvious that momentum does not change easily and I don't see him taking that into consideration as much as he should have. As such I see Wii in 1st, Xbox 2nd and PS3 3rd.

It is hard to get to catch up with a large install base as Sony will find out. Just like last gen, xbox = superior but not as many titles and could not catch the PS2.

ps3 hasnt sold big becasue ps2 is still supported by sony and devs. once they pull the ps2's plug, then people will go out and buy their ps3s. xbox 360 sales are so high because original xbox owners got their support pulled and were forced to buy a new console to get any new games.

cuz the last 2 console wars both playstations have sold over 100 mil units... i mean that is huge

the appeal, innovation, and "fad" of the wii will drive Nintendo out of last place ( last gen ps2 sold 115 mil, xbox 24 mil, and gamecube 21mil)

the 360 will fail only becuz its lack of variety in its good games.... meaning the best games on the 360 are shooters ... halo 1-3, bioshock, gears, mass effect.... their big shooters can only help for soo long becuz if u dont like shooters or get sick of them.... then the xbox just isnt ur thing... and thats Microsofts major downfall in their system

so once again variety of games will win the war for Sony

LOL people always think Sony's going to win because of the Name Sony when PS2 apealed to the mass Casual market like the way the Wii is doing now. PS2 won because it had all the support and games this isn't the case this generation. PS3 started out so expensive I doubt they will sell consoles fast enough to continully match Wii and 360 future price drops.

The price of the Ps3 would have to drop to under 300 and eventually hit under 200.

Only problem with that is the xbox 360's will always have the price advantage and the 3rd party advantage....which is what sells consoles to the biggest audience of all....Casual Gamers.

So it should be interesting from 2008 to 2010. If you sony fanboys think that somehow Microsoft is going to stop pushing the industry foward next year and beyond....You know little about how Hungry Microsaoft is and to what extent they will go to dominate the Console Industry.

Remember I said this a year from now.....

With 120 million ps2 owners....did they buy a ps2 because of the first party title God of War 1 or 2?

Nope....Total sales for both games are less than 24 hours of sales of Halo 3 in the USA alone.

People bought the Ps2 in large numbers not because the love SONY.

The mass majority bought it because it was inexpensive...Under 200 and now around 100....and because it had a large library of games. With its biggest sellers being 3rd party games like the GTA series.

Will the Ps3 ever have the 3rd party advantage again? Will they ever have the price advantage?

Thats why I can't see the ps3 ever selling over 40 million consoles this generation.

I see the best case senerio for sony being a tie with Microsoft with Nintendo coming in first or last depending on if people get tired of not having HD graphics and if the wii remote looses its neatness.

it's all about price and games why is it the ps2 still selling like crazy cuz it's super cheap now and has @ss load of games. Remember the ps2 didn't really take off in sales till it got to the $199 mass market price. All the consoles are selling well but they are still too expensive for the mass market which is why the wii is dominating cuz it's cheap..

i dont agree with the future sales predictions because the ps3 is to expensive to achieve those figures.
but i do agree with the fact that the 360 needs more casual fun games.

you know sony is going to dominate, 360 rarely has any good games, and ps3 has lots, ps2 ppl are going to go to ps3 so duh, SONY definetly has a larger fanbase than MS, the cost will go down, then ps3 will sell like b*B, its matter of time, youll be the the first one in line to get a ps3 this year or the next, i gaurentee you

This is guy needs to study some economics man, for his numbers to add up ps3 would have to start selling more than 1 million a month starting 2008, can anyone say unlikely?. Now I fully expect ps3 sales to go up during 2008, a lot, but what this guy is saying is just stupid.
