Apple Could Kill the 3DS

The 3DS is going to be releasing soon, and Nintendo is hoping to see success similar to their DS line up. The DS has sold an amazing 145 million units worldwide, and is still selling over 50,000 units a week. The 3DS has impressive technology, but has a much higher price tag at $250.00 U.S. dollars. The high price is a concern for many people, but Nintendo has an even bigger problem: a little company called Apple.

but Apple can never kill the NGP.

CrazyForGames5577d ago

oh wait... you were serious? ..... LOL

Shok5577d ago

Wow, you REALLY make the Sony fanbase look idiotic....

dredgewalker5576d ago

I doubt Apple could kill the 3DS and NGP. If Apple ever kills these handhelds then it also kills portable hardcore gaming. Don't ever pray that Apple takes over gaming because what they want isn't in our interests as gamers.

ChronoJoe5576d ago (Edited 5576d ago )

What he said makes sense. Whilst I don't believe apple will be kill the 3DS.

The 3DS and iproducts are in much closer competition than the NGP and 3DS or NGP and iproducts. The 3DS and Iproducts are both targeted at the same type of consumer, the NGP is not.

Apple would need to open some first party studios, to make decent games first.

nsnsmj5575d ago

Apple won't be killing either.

Apple cant kill the 3DS or NGP. It wont "kill" any handheld thats meant for gaming.

Shok5577d ago

Im tired of people saying Apple is a threat to Nintendo and Sony. 1 MB games with no tactile buttons can never top a dedicated gaming device.

Angry Birds is fun, but let's be real here, you're comparing Angry Birds to Mario, Zelda, Metroid, Metal Gear, Killzone, etc games....no contest.

astrobrights5576d ago

I'm also tired of it. Sure Apple will do really well with casual gamers and non-gamers who might play a cheap game while waiting for the bus or something. But these devices will not keep real gamers from buying dedicated gaming devices.

astrobrights5576d ago

The other thing people need to keep in mind is that these casual games on iPhone, iPad and Android aren't bringing in the big bucks like real games. I have quite a few games on my Android, but they are all free versions.. I've never once paid for a game on a phone.

dredgewalker5576d ago

I've got tons of games for my Ipod Touch....95% of them are crap. The only redeeming thing about it is I can browse the net while at work and listening to my albums.

SonyNGP5576d ago

I find it funny that we're seeing games like Angry Birds on our Nintendo and Sony handhelds.

CraigUK5576d ago

Unless apple somehow magicly find a way to make first party nintendo games, which they wont. Then the 3DS isnt going to lose sales, as with pretty much any nintendo console, Nintendo games sell like hotcakes, 3rd party games...not so well.

Dont get me wrong, some 3rd party games sell, but if you look at the sales lists for say.... the DS, Wii and gamecube, the lists are like 90% Nintendo games.

U.S. patent examiner rejects Nintendo’s summoning characters patent as obvious: non-final ruling

The rejection is non-final (and even when such rejections are labeled as “final”, the process is far from over, given that there can be, at minimum, an appeal to the Federal Circuit).

Good, as they should! A game mechanic like that shouldn't be locked behind a patent, and Nintendo didn't invent it either.

PRIMORDUS66d ago (Edited 66d ago )

Nintendo wants to keep wasting money on bullshit lawsuits, real smart in this economy. They should put that money aside for other game projects. On the other hand, I don't care if they waste it all either, and they are screwed in the future maybe that will teach them a lesson.

Nintendo Suing U.S. Government Over Tariffs

The fact that you have ANY disagrees will forever baffle me. And to the (apparent) MAGA contingent that exists on this website, enjoy your 8-9 dollar gas.

AuraAbjure91d ago (Edited 91d ago )

Yes, they had better be pissed after Trump told them the way they rip off the USA is over.

EveryPlatformGamer92d ago

LOL I read this on gaff, will they refund the money back to the gamers? highly unlikely. Didn't they just raise prices and pass it onto the gamers? Only Nintendo would send out the Ninjas to the US government.

-Foxtrot92d ago

That’s what I was thinking, imagine them winning hypothetically, getting a s**t load of money back which they would have lost if they hadn’t raised their prices and it’s business as normal.

It would just mean people paid more for no reason since they got the money back anyway.

Outside_ofthe_Box92d ago (Edited 92d ago )

A lot of companies partially passed the cost to consumers instead of all of it. They would still have to at least pay that back to gamers, but we know that won't happen. What's also sad is that prices won't come back down after the initial hike caused by tariffs.

People didn't understand the full repercussions of tariffs. That alone should have cost him the presidency if people knew it was a permanent price hike for consumers

Inverno92d ago

The people should sue these companies for having to over pay cause of these tariffs.

Eonjay92d ago

Naw they should sue the government for forcing the tax to begin with. No one reasonably expects these companies to absorb the taxes. Many smaller companies tried and were shut down or faced to increase prices to try to maintain their business. The tariffs effect everyone.

Inverno90d ago

I meant it mostly as a joke cause we all know the costs of these tariffs were passed onto the consumer. But it's seems no matter how vocal we are here in the states our "representatives" don't seem to care enough to represent us. And things are about to get worse.

Killer2020UK91d ago

The companies were doing what the law required then to do, the tariffs however were illegally implemented. Usually it's criminals we punish, you seem to have different ideas 🤷‍♂️
