Why Crysis 2 Has No Move Support

Crytek experimented with Move controls for the PlayStation 3 version of Crysis 2 but ditched the idea, judging it a poor fit for the gameplay, the FPS sequel's senior producer has revealed.

"It's clearly something we looked at," Hasit Zala told Eurogamer at an EA event in San Francisco today.

Because motion control for fps is a gimmik. So is 3d(which is why they opted for a depth of field 3d).

Edited for spelling.

Spitfire_Riggz5555d ago

I am happy they at least thought of it and tried it.

Elimin85555d ago (Edited 5555d ago )

Man, for me, every FPS should have MOVE option. KZ3 did it oh so well.

"I can't think of too many first person shooters that are really embracing it at this point in time." He clearly hasn't heard about Killzone3..

Army_of_Darkness5555d ago

Move support is awesome with killzone 3!!! I dont even want to use the dualshock controller for fps anymore!

xCaptainAmazing5555d ago

But seriously, Move implementation sucks for fps's (NOT Move's fault). I'm looking right at Killzone. It does some garbage thing where it moves the gun instead of the camera which is awfully strange (like how the Wii does it). Socom 4 is the best implementation yet IMO.

Parapraxis5555d ago (Edited 5555d ago )

@xCaptainAmazing

* Deadzone Width: 0%
* Deadzone Height: 0%
* Crosshair Sensitivity: 30%
* Turn Speed: 70%
* Lock Assist: None
* Zoom: Hold
* Crouch: Hold

Seriously, try it and get back to me, this setup is nearly perfect.

It took me a while to get a proper setup, a 0% deadzone for both height and width is a must, crosshair sensitivity and turn speed will differ from person to person.

I highly recommend people with Move & KZ3 try the setup above, you might be shocked how accurate and responsive it is when done right.

Pixelated_Army5555d ago (Edited 5555d ago )

@OT
Crytek obviously has no interest in investing any real development into the PS3 version it's just a copy & paste job nothing more. And it's because of this reason that I say no thanks and I'll reserve my money for developers that will take the time and do things right.

@awiseman

Clearly you haven't played KZ3 with Move because if you had then you would realize the rediculiousness of your statement.

Killzone 3 has proven that Move is more than capable of replacing DS in FPS environment. So take your little comment which is dripping with bitterness and envy and go back over to your side and into your hole and you stay there.

Oh and did you hear that the PC version Crysis 2 suffers from popin. lol This is cutting edge stuff here ladies and gentlemen.

Sersiously, Microsoft and the Xbox need to go.

Truth:

It would require the game to be in an even lower SUBHD res.

Its amazing what GG can do, with 24 players... in hd..

karl5555d ago

seriously ..

crytek is not a GOOD DEV.. people believe they are but they are not

any dev can make a game look like crysis witb unlimited resources but most think on the people who cant afford a high end pc...

now that they are on consoles we can finally watch them work with a limited hardware and now its obvious that soo many other devs are far better and skilled than them

specialguest5555d ago

KZ3 made me a believer on move for fps. Aiming becomes so easy and accurate. In my opinion, it gives an advantage.

sickbird5555d ago (Edited 5555d ago )

@captainamazing,have you ever tried a wii game where the gun stays stationary? its almost impossible. Move works great with KZ3, i now use it as my primary controller.

femshep5555d ago

much agreed gimmicks should stay out of real games so they can be serious love killzone 3 but im not wasting tons of money for blurriness and still tons of money for the wii2

2fk5555d ago

Pixelated_Army5555d ago

Crytek, who boasted of maxing out 360 and ps3 yet comes out with a sub-hd game. What a joke!

hoops5555d ago (Edited 5555d ago )

Crytek did a great job making the game for the consoles considering what goes on behind the game engine.
I am surprised its not even lower SubHD.

BK-2015555d ago

Crysis 2's environments are pretty static actually.

jammydude5555d ago

and the console versions' graphics aren't exactly bleeding edge tech or anything, it falls very short of certain exclusives visually

kharma455555d ago

On this current gen of consoles that arguably isn't that big of a deal.

The fact however that Crysis 2 will launch as DX9 only on PC is the real joke.

"but I don't think it's quite there yet. I can't think of too many first person shooters that are really embracing it at this point in time."

Yea god forbid they try doing something different.

rdgneoz35555d ago

Yah, they never heard of MAG or KZ3. As you said, god forbid they try something different, its not like everyone that uses Move in KZ3 is loving it...

femshep5555d ago (Edited 5555d ago )

i used it and i hated it might as well play the conduit on the wii for the controls they gave me on kz

mind you i still love killzone

Parapraxis5555d ago

LOL people really need to learn a good setup, I posted one above.

I'm still learning how to look for the differences. At first I was focusing on shadows for some reason but I don't think that changes much, is it reflections that change?

rashada072520d ago (Edited 2520d ago )

It is supposed to be simulating how light actually works- so yes if light is reflecting off a surface accurately it should show reflection or an effect that matches what you are looking at in the environment. Next time you play a game look at a puddle of water there may be just a "baked" in texture that if you aren't paying attention seems like it is reflecting but it isn't. I would say though if the light is reflecting more accurately I would think that would give more accurate shadows as well.
I am still not 100% sold on it- it looks okay but I can't get over the hardware price jump for better reflections..

Taz X142520d ago

While games won't look immensely better, it opens up more possibilities overall. Understandably, the price jump is huge. But, that can be said for being at the forefront for any new technology. I'm currently using a 2080ti and while I've played a few games that enable it, the gpu also plays everything else incredibly well so it's not like you're buying this tech for ONLY that option. Enthusiasts will pay top dollar to check out the newest things, but this will eventually become an everyday consumer and by then they'll have optimized and become a lot cheaper.

warriorcase2519d ago

Ray/path tracing can be used how the developer wants it to be. Tracing can be used to calculate shadows/lighting, reflection and even audio, where audio waves are calculated on the bounce off material types to simulate enviroment and echos accuratly.

Should also keep in mind that this ray/path tracing system is different and less accurate option from Nvidias RTX branded type. McFly's is a reshade that layers over the top of the game and therefor the quality will vary drastically. For example you can see nice reflection in the Star Wars demo here but it then introduces colour clipping with the light saber. On a video of GTA 5 for example it was incorrectly projecting a reflection of a red car onto the road which caused a very faint red glow on the ground around the car.

If you want to see a good example of a game developed with ray tracing reflection and lighting in mind then you could look up the youtube video of "Control - Exclusive E3 RTX GAMEPLAY Trailer".

DigitallyAfflicted2520d ago

It supposed to add more realistic light Not actually more light effects and explosions

traumadisaster2520d ago

I hate to say it but I’m fine with fake lights, shadows, reflections. I just kind of like the effect, it’s also great it saves resources for other things.

I’ve been checking out some original Xbox games on x360/x1x and the engine has fake light streaming in through a stained glass window, and I love it even though I know it’s not real time lighting. Heck it even shifts as I move about.

I’ve about convinced my self rt and hdr just doesn’t work for me. Before hdr I would even complain damn why are the headlights killing me they are so bright.

I notice most frame rate, then jaggies, then resolution; with the last two interchangeable depending.

Other day watched an enthusiast rave over 4k and the poor guy was in 1080p. I played the same game the night before and thought wow this is clean, I wonder if it’s 4k, but knew differently and I thought wow even resolution is not always important. The next day he apologized and was surprised he could be fooled.

RaidenBlack2519d ago

EA should have released the Crysis Trilogy Remaster for this gen.

FGHFGHFGH2514d ago

How come the lightsabers don't give off any light? Even in the EA star wars game the guy uses it to light up a dark cave. I guess if it is using frostbite it will support rtx cards.
