Pic looks like a plastic doll lol

One of the cons of UE. I prefer Cryengine and have high hopes for the new Frostbite.

Just so you know that picture isn't running on the ue3 at all it's actually a model made using the zbrush 3d modeling program.

OH Boy more plastic / play-doh looking people, rocks, and buildings from you guessed it.....

The Unreal Engine 3 brought to you by a partnership between Hasbro and Dupont!

This is the one reason why the Unreal engine is actually great to use. Its very scalable. Having the ability to add dx11 effects will be great for an updated Unreal engine will be great.
Lets see how it is implemented in upcoming games...

Trroy5569d ago (Edited 5569d ago )

Does it just seem this way to me, or does every version of DX come with lamer and more obscure features that PC games will never use due to the lowest common denominator issue? You know, gain vs investment?

Who is going to write a game that seriously utilizes tech which only works decently on some small % of the video cards their potential audience owns? Spend hundreds of thousands of $$, or millions, into doing work that only a few gamers will even see, when they could have spent that money on something everyone will see and enjoy?

hoops5569d ago

Thats odd...every AMD 5xxx series or Nvidia Fermi GPU's use all those capabilities.
So your saying Tessellation is lame?

Obviously you missed the memo. Almost every upcoming game is dx11 built. Either the ground up or patched and EVERY modern DX11 capable GPU can use these features from low-high end gpu's.

I have a 5770 and Lost Planet 2, but the tradeoff for DX11 is too large. There is no way I'd trade all high settings 1080p 60fps DX9 for all medium 30fps 720p DX11.

I've also played Arham Asylum with a GTS250 and physx can be a performance hog aswell, so if Arkham City is using physx and DX 11 like this article suggest. I'm sure only SLI or the highest end nvidia card can max it.

bumnut5569d ago

5770 is a mid range card, thats why it chugs when you enable the high end features

Trroy5569d ago (Edited 5569d ago )

"every AMD 5xxx series or Nvidia Fermi GPU's "

and

"5770 is a mid range card, thats why it chugs when you enable the high end features"

...so you guys made my point for me then.

@hoops: Do you honestly believe that the cards capable of effectively utilizing these features represent a significant portion of the actual PC game userbase? If you do, you have a long way to go before you touch ground.

Most people (read: PC gamers, which are not, even remotely, all hardcore gaming rig fanatics) don't upgrade their video cards ever year or two, and often don't bother buying anything that's priced beyond reason.

I play a load of PC games. I have a nVidia 7900 GTX, and honestly, I just haven't felt the need to upgrade, because I'm fine with lower resolutions, and missing features like tessellation or excess AA, which hogs too much performance for its value anyway. I also consider myself a serious gamer, and justify a new piece of hardware now and then -- most people who buy PC games... don't. I bought the 7900 GTX in 2006, and it still performs perfectly fine for most games (it was the highest of high-end cards when I bought it, of course).

Here's some handy info for ya:
Radeon HD 5770, Pixel fillrate: 13.6 GP/s, Texel fillrate: 34.0 GT/s
nVidia 7900 GTX, Pixel fillrate: 10.4 GP/s, Texel fillrate: 15.6 GT/s

...so it looks like the 5770 lets me handle more expensive shaders, and run at a slightly higher resolution. Woo. Not worth the upgrade yet. Considering that a 5870 costs a fortune, and I'm not *that* much into PC gaming... well that's where most people stand,

darando5569d ago

trroy. you are right these features are obscure but DX11 isn't only about these fancy features that are pointless and wasted time to really put them into the game. DX 10/11 are also good as they are easier to code then DX9 ( i read it somewhere so i am probably lie-ing and making a fool out of myself XD )

And if everyone Stayed on XP and DX 9 , were does innovation come from? we need to advance and may it be a silly feature at a time so be it.

also http://www.overclockers.co....

5850 is not that expensive and if you live in NA its cheaper :/ ... and a 5770 is a pretty low end card, it is good in Xfire but that's about it :P .. but it will allow you to play Bf3 and that's all that matters ^^
