Wow, it is a good thing writers like this don't create games. One of the most critically acclaimed games ever, 2010 GOTY for many gamer sites... and it is "disappointing." The author is obviously trolling for hits.

No game is perfect, that is true. But I can write an article on any game that only focuses on negatives, but that does not rule out all of the GOOD that is in a game.

Any article that focuses only on good or bad points of a game (ONe liners of "this is a great game however" don't count) is amateur and unprofessional.

Writer, go back to your day job. ;)

Did you even read the article? Try thinking yourself for once. I actually agree with the author, and honestly thought he was being was being way too nice. Mass Effect 2 was solely about character development. Too bad half of it was super ******.

It felt like Bioware was neglecting everything that made the original Mass Effect good in favor of people with a short attention span. Instead of telling us a story, they arranged to have us go on a series of fetch quests in order to assemble a team that hates each other. Half the time you're a babysitter!

I mean really, can you honestly tell me Grunt, Samara, and Jacob were great characters? The game fails in the narrative department as well. The story had strong parallels to Moore's Battlestar Galactica, but seemed to steer away from that in favor of more generic and tripe sci-fi clichés.

I enjoyed a greater part of the missions, but most everything leading up to it was menu driven. There was no sense of exploration. It felt like I was wandering down pretty corridors the whole time, which I don't mind as long as they have a strong narrative (Uncharted 2, Heavy Rain, God of War III, Alan Wake, etc).

Not that I expect anyone will listen to what I've said here. I mean hell, why not. With Mass Effect 3 right around the corner, shouldn't our focus be on giving them feedback so they can make a better sequel for not just the 360 user base, but the PS3 community as well.

I'm hoping with ME3 we'll get both story and gameplay.

Such a shame to see all that potential go to waste, and turn into a pointless generic sci-fi shooter.

A complete waste and HUGE disappointment.

I wished i'd took note earlier, before purchasing the game when one of the fans on the BioWare boards speculated that Drew Karpyshyn (writer on KOTOR and ME1) had left because he didn't like the direction they were taking ME2. Though the more generic looking art style really
started to sow the hint that the game wouldn't be as smart as the first game was.

They basically wanted it to appeal to the masses and took steps in every aspect of the games design to draw them in. Optimal casual-ization for the dumb masses. Sure it was more popular, but it wasn't art any more, it wasn't an epic RPG which is was the sequel should have been. It just became another generic throwaway sci-fi action shooter.

I'm done with BioWare.

I hope you're not implying that ME1 was an RPG, if you don't consider ME2 to be.

It was no more an RPG than ME2 in the traditional sense. Unless you consider playing inventory dress-up to be what makes a true RPG.

Wow. This article is only about a year late. LOL.

And ME2 is superior to ME1 in every way. Better environments, more streamlined interface, more interesting characters, grittier locales...it's ME1 but all grown up.

Some people miss being forced to drive around poorly-textured, poorly thought-out planetscapes. Not sure why...

I really love Mass Effect 1, it was so original, so atmospheric and cool. But ME2 failed in every aspect, that was good in original, except gameplay mechanic. There was no exploration, moral choices seems not that good and overall atmosphere and pathos was seriously toned down.
And story, lets say ME2 has not any story, if it was to be compared with original

I played through ME 5-6 times and like it every time, but ME2 i played 2 times because of the achievements and that all, no joy whatsoever.

I agree to an extent, The atmosphere in ME1 was second to none in games. The only thing I could compare to would be Bladerunner, and If you are a sci-fi fan you will get how much weight a comment like that carries.

I disagree with not enjoying ME2 though, I still enjoyed it a lot, it was just better in some ways, worse in others. All I want now is a return of more RPG elements and exploration, we have to accept the atmosphere is gone as the music is being handled by someone else for the third entry in the franchise

I bought ME2 on the PS3. It is a very good game. I was told by a number of people not to play ME1 even on the PC. ME2 was so much better in every way.

Hey wait, you forgot that Kotor did have a sequel, it is just that it really sucked...

ME2 for all its faults is wildly better that Kotor 2, normalizing for graphics...

Wonder what the disagrees are for. KOTOR was a proper RPG game, whereas the first ME was half RPG and half shooter. The second was even less of an RPG with a mediocre story. Still like the series though.

Exactly.No one mentioned the gimped story,pointless mission to fight the Collectors,time wasted recruiting a new team which was pretty much the entire game,boring tedious mining,lack of loot and lack of innovation for the RPG genre.

I love Mass Effect 2 and its my GOTY but I smell the coffee of disappointment when its brewed but no one mentioned anything last year

It is a tad overrated. A solid 9 game IMO but the story for all its tichness of characters is not that great. The story of ME2 is basically SPOILER : Go after collector ship. 99% of the time you are assembling your crew rather then taking part in an epic journey with your crew which is kind of sad.But it is a good game though

Thats the one thing that really tore it down for me, I remebered on ME1 being sent to different reaches of the galaxy to fight off new species in hope for either a completed side quest, some nice new weapons and armour or a bit more knowledge about the protheans. Some of these events felt pretty epic. ME2 had plenty of levels to play but they had NOTHING to do with the story, they just further developed character stories, after which if you had progressed enough you may be able to see a bit more story.

The system felt like it dragged on, and all for one final mission of repetative, uncreative walkways, and a typical and boring boss fight at the end. Sure the scene before the actual mission is good, but they forgot to make the end fun. ME1 ending was ten times more epic. So after all that dragging on through character missions waiting for an epic end, the character missions turned out to be more interesting anyway. SPOILER ALERT! they also made all the prothean stuff from the first game fairly irrellivent as well.

I love the game but to pretend it doesnt have problems is stupid, funny how it took so long to be able to say bad things about it

Sorry, Didnt mean for it to sound quite that negative, I do love the game and have replayed it lots of times, waiting with all my save files ready for ME3.

Just I felt the game could have been so much more if it were not for the character support driven story being almost the entire focus. And I do wish the game was longer, then the events linked to the characters could have at least gone a lot deeper. If I had to rate it myself I would give it a 9, But if was more balanced it would have been a 12. Its a masterpeice but a flawed one

Yeah Mass Effect 2 was a let down compared to Mass Effect 1.

I still haven't completed ME 2 and yet completed ME 1 swiftly!

Let's hope they really push the RPG side on ME 3 tho i doubt it.

And hopefully SWTOR is good.

I agree both good games, but ME1 was the better game, they removed to many of the RPG elements in ME2 but after playing the DA2 demo am hoping ME3 is somewhere between ME and ME2.

i agree that you should play a game through to completion but you dont need to with all games, some just dissapoint, bore you within the first few hours, i happened to love both mass effects, even bought and played through number 2 again on ps3 because i thought it was a very good game.

I loved ME2 and when people mention all the negatives here, i agree and only really became aware of these in retrospect, but regardless, flaws and all i still loved this game.

ME1 was an action RPG, ME2 was more like Uncharted was mostly action. They removed to many of the RPG elements in ME2. The tank sucked in ME2 compared to the Mako in ME. Yeh it got boring planet exploring after you been to like 30 but it was even worse mining planets and hoping that maybe you might find a distress call, but you couldn't do hardly any exploring on ME2. DA2 is what ME2 should of been like. Imo they just changed it a bit to much. I bet ME3 will be in between ME1 and ME2 when it comes out. ME is ment to be an action RPG, and ME2 was just an action game.

Just so you know I don't hate ME2 I still enjoyed it and played it 5 times already,I own the series on the PC and ME2 on the PS3.

In the end it really doesn't matter what genre ME2 falls into. So what if it isn't a 'true' RPG (whatever the hell that's meant to be). The bottom line is Mass Effect 2 is an absolutely stunning game.

I don't understand why people preferred ME1 side quests! The Moon mission for example was boring and it had you walk through similar rooms doing similar things over and over. Now go and compare that to Thane's son mission!

For the exploration part of ME1, most of the random bases that I have found on ME 1 were similar to the ones I 've found before. True, the idea is good but it was not done right as it should have been.

The only thing I miss from ME1 is the way you can upgrade your guns and the loot. But this does not make it a disappointing sequel.

Blah Blah.... Both game were well above average, actually, both games are what you would consider AAA titles.

So he has his opinion of what he didn't like, doesn't take away the fact that these 2 games are rare in the video game world, an experience that happens very few times in the video game world.

Can't wait for ME3

Mass Effect 2 was and IS a great game! I actually don't play many RPG like games, and avoid alot of open world side mission types. Mass Effect kept me rooted in the story at all times. I actually wanted to do the side missions to see what happened to the characters, how it affected the team dynamics, and so on. It was a great experience.

If this is Biowares Rembrandt,then maybe I'm color blind.
Gears of War with dialogue wheels,some iridium deposits and laughable extra-content.
Overlord was a tad embarrassing,as was Zaeed.
