Does Your PC Meet Crysis 2′s System Requirements?

Crysis was (and still is) notorious for needing a pretty high-spec system to run well, but Crytek has said time and time again that the engine powering Crysis 2, CryEngine 3, is far more robust, and therefore won’t require the same kind of horsepower to run well. You know where this is going. VR-Zone claims to have the game’s recommended system requirements, and they are as Crytek claimed: not too crazy.

God no.

My PC can barely take Minecraft. My laptop sucks :(

Dramscus5486d ago

My motherboard is lacking slots for a video card :(
I ps3 game and can manage minecraft though.

Kran5486d ago

I just realised. "My PC can barely take Minecraft. My laptop sucks." I promise its a Laptop, not a desktop ;D

Perjoss5485d ago

I remember when the first Crysis came out, my computer would crash just trying to view screenshots of Crysis, now I'm ok though :)

captain-obvious5485d ago

here i have a web site the test your computer at basically tells you if it can run the game or not
http://www.systemrequiremen...

FrankenLife5485d ago

Why yes, My PC is up to spec and will be able to run Crysis 2 on max settings. Thank You for your concern.

Computersaysno5485d ago (Edited 5485d ago )

I beat the highly recommended for 1920 x 1200 30fps although i play in 1080p. Except video memory though. 1.8Gb is a lot. Awww yeah. Cant wait now.

I think most people play in 1080p or below, so should not worry too much.

turgore5485d ago

systemrequirementslab.com is not reliable. it told my laptop that it won't be able to run lots of games (like Thief 3 or Hitman Contracts) but it ran them very well.

And this is the biggest issue with those that say the PC is better then the consoles. Most PCs today can't keep up with the specs of games.

Consoles give you the advantage of the software being created for the spec and not to suit multiple specs of PCs.

If you have a sturdy system then you have no issues (as long as you KEEEP updating it) but count yourselves in the minority when it comes to PCs.

awi59515485d ago (Edited 5485d ago )

Non gaming pc's cant keep up.

http://www.newegg.com/Produ...

Now your pc meets crysis 2 requirements thats 509 dollars with crossfire performance. Less than what ps3 cost when it came out.
And i can confirm one 4870x2 runs crysis 2 at 30 fps at 1920x1080 on hardcore settings. The final buid will run way better. And if you sacrifice you Pc to the gaming GODS you can pay far less with you old pc parts.

distorted_reality5485d ago

@ Legion - you're very, very wrong. 5 years ago that may of been the case - but these days the majority of devs aren't pushing PC hardware at all, and a decent 5 year old system can run just about any new game out there.

As far as Crysis 2, the recommended requirements are fairly decent, with older hardware still viable, it won't be anywhere near the resource hog that the original game was.

ATiElite5485d ago

You want a high performance vehicle you buy quality parts.
You want a high performance body you buy healthy food.
you want high fashion you buy the clothes.
you want a high performance PC you gotta buy the parts that will keep you ahead of the curve.

Thinking your gonna play a game exactly how a developer made it on a used PC you got from a fire sale ain't gonna cut it.

somerandomdude5485d ago (Edited 5485d ago )

The Minimum specs are actually quite average. Core duo processors are pretty much the standard in current pcs and 2Ghz is a minimum speed you'd want to start out at.

The graphics card requirements aren't that high either, hd4000 series is the same card that came out during the beginning of the PS3 360 era and the requirements are a hd3000 series.

If your pc can't handle this game then you either got ripped off, you haven't upgraded in about 5 years or have a office pc, meaning you'd still have a ps2 in console terms.

somerandomdude5485d ago

"If you have a sturdy system then you have no issues (as long as you KEEEP updating it) but count yourselves in the minority when it comes to PCs."

You only need to update as much as new consoles come out spending the same amount of money. It's not like we can still use our ps1's for current games.

Legion5485d ago (Edited 5485d ago )

Sorry to all those PC fanboys. But the minimum specs is pushing out 20 fps. (sad) And once again... the MAJORITY of PCs owned do not meet the specs.

And why is the highly recommended specs only pushing out 30 fps? What happened to PCs pushing out those 60 fps??

Average 5 year system of a console (and that is minimum... closer to 7 year) I have spent way over a thousand dollars on each of my PCs keeping them up to date. And I still don't play games on them. (primarily graphics work and production) But I need to keep them up to date so that I can create games and media.

So you really miss the point that PCs are out there but even that $509 system that you buy today is not going to be ideal for the life of a console without updating the PC to meet specs each year. Just not going to happen... no matter what you might think.

This time around, Crysis, I am ready for you.

distorted_reality5485d ago

As am I.

Phenom hexacore, 8 gig ddr3 and dual 6870s. Am just hoping that multicore and crossfire support is decent, otherwise I may be screwed lol.

Julie5485d ago

Me too i believe, i7 920, Ati 5970, 6gb DDR3 triple channel.

But then again i am sure that somehow i won't be able to play at max :3

awi59515485d ago

@Legion
I was just making the cheapest gpu you find right now for 150 dollars. And Crysis doesnt like ATI cards find you a good nivida card and crysis 2 will probally run at 60 fps no prob You could have built that pc i recommended 3 years ago and still be fine. No game created in 3 years never pushed that system much.

Like someone else said games rarely use the full performance of cards that come out. That old build maxes any game out even today. And you can buy a 3rd graphics card to boost its power more for 69 bucks because the card is old for a 3gpu set up. If you want to play at 60 fps that much and at higher res than 1080 p just pay 100 dollars more for a new direct x 11 card. That wont get pushed at all for several years to come.

JsonHenry5485d ago

Crysis doesn't like ATi (AMD) cards? My 5870 can run the original Crysis maxed.

I think you are confusing in game Nvidia sponsorship with real world results my friend.

Proof? - http://hardocp.com/article/...

ATiElite5485d ago

Ah yes those were the days when Crysis would turn ALL PC's to nothing more than a slide show device if you were lucky enough to make it that far. Crysis kicked off an arms race not seen since the Cold War!!

CryEngine 3 is far more optimized and uses the smart programming of DX11 unlike DX10 which was DX9 with a bunch of crap tossed on it.

Forged By Chaos uses the CryEngine 3 and it looks AWESOME!! can't wait to see Crysis 2 Pc in DX11 mode.

rainbow6bet5485d ago

@JsonHenry

awi5951 isnt wrong at the time of crysis launch nividia cards run better and still do with that game. If you take a nividia card with the same power as the card you currently have the nividia card will beat it everytime. Nivida pays developers to make their games run better on their cards. Check the performace charts on Tom's Hardware. The nividia cards always run better on that game because nividia pays them to do so.

ATiElite5485d ago

That's not always true.

AMD and Nvidia cherry pick what screen resolution they wanna perform better at and also it really depends on if the game has AA on and all special effects.

Many benchmarks are not reliable. I only look at benchmarks from Hardware Canucks because they ALWAYS use MAX Graphics, all special effects on and they use 8xAA 16 AF across the 4 main resolutions thus giving a true ideal of a cards performance.

ugabugaz5485d ago

Yeah, I can do the recommended settings.

Qdog5485d ago (Edited 5485d ago )

If I cant max it with my rig then something is very wrong. The only thing I should have performance problems with is running it maxed in eyefinity (5760x1080)

eVGA e762 mobo
i7 980X (4.6ghz)w/ HT
12gb DDR3
2x HD5970s (1ghz core/1.25ghz mem)
+ PNY XLR8 GTX 460 (1gb) for Hybrid PhysX

deadoralive13375485d ago

I am sorta between recommended and highly recommended. Does anyone know if GTX 460 and a 3.2 quad core is good enough for this?

Computersaysno5485d ago (Edited 5485d ago )

GTX460 will do well in this :-)

Better if you overclock it. Its faster than both 4870 and GTX280. 1Gb version wins comfortably against GTX280 in crysis/warhead. Shouldn't be too much of a stretch to imagine it'll win in this too.

Motorola5486d ago

HD4870? Wow time is almost catching up to my card... Btw is 1650x1050 performance similar to 1600x900? I would think so but I am not sure.

callahan095485d ago

1680 x 1050 is a common 16:10 resolution. I assume that's what you meant, because I've never heard of 1650 x 1050. It's exactly the same as 1600 x 900 in terms of the quality of the image, it's just that it's optimized for 16:10 monitors instead of 16:9 monitors. Which means it's slightly less *wide*.

Sarevok5486d ago

hell no...I lag like crazy when I play Doom 3.

Shackdaddy8365486d ago (Edited 5486d ago )

Yes :)

And I'm about to upgrade to a second 5870 in crossfire so my computer should run Crysis 2 full settings w/o even trying.

callahan095485d ago

I was thinking of doing the same, then I realized my motherboard only has a single 16x PCI-E slot, so I'd have to get a new motherboard in order to do that. Screw that...

awi59515485d ago

just buy a dual card ati and nividia has them

Shackdaddy8365485d ago (Edited 5485d ago )

Well, he might not have room in his case for dual card...

I know I would have to cut into my case if I got anything larger than 10.5". In fact, I had to kinda slip my card into an empty hard drive bay in order to fit it because a 5870 is 10.75" if you include the fan things that stick out. Luckily it BARELY fit....

callahan095485d ago

I appreciate your defense Shackdaddy836, but the truth is my case could fit one of the dual-cards. But I'm not ready to go that route because I just got my 5870 last year. I'm not about to replace it all-together, I was just considering getting another to complement it.

stuntman_mike5485d ago

I got a 5870 great card. I think i just meet the high spec

Shackdaddy8365485d ago

Ya, you will definitely be able to run on full settings with just 1 5870. I'm just getting 2 cus I have some extra money from a previous buy that I waaay over-estimated on XD.

Control Resonant: Getting to Grips With Remedy’s First-Ever Melee Action Game

The Oldest House leaking into New York is all I needed to hear to be excited about Control Resonant, Remedy Entertainment’s long-anticipated follow-up to their excellent 2019 paranormal action-adventure, Control. As they recently showed us with Alan Wake 2, the folks at Remedy are not afraid to take big swings with sequels, and Control Resonant looks no less surprising and delightful than its studio and series pedigree would suggest.
