Shogun 2: Total War Performance Analysis

DasReviews writes: "Sega released a demo for this upcoming strategy, so it’s time to see how it performs. We used a Q9650 @ 4.2Ghz, 4GB DDR2 and a GTX295. Our OS was Windows 7 64Bit and we used the latest version of ForceWare. Nvidia has already an SLI profile for the game, so you won’t have to mess with the Nvidia Inspector tool..."

Ok,.. Let me say one thing about the demo performance,..

For how it looks like,.. It is quite a system hog,..
No one can fucking tell me I should not be able to max it out on my rig (Well I can, but it is unplayable,.. I don't event think I had AA on at all).
They need to fix this shit, because It really is not jaw-dropping or anything,..

Agent VX5480d ago

The graphics are really nice, but don't forget, Total War games are not a Halo or Killzone. Each of the soldiers have their own A.I. routines. So not only does your system have to deal with the detailed and nice graphics, it has to deal with the thousands and thousands of individuals on the battlefield, each doing specific things.

This game will tax modern day PC's, so unless you have a monster set up, Max settings will be unlikely.

macky3015480d ago (Edited 5480d ago )

Read the fucking article,.. Ok my rig is a bit better,..and I have 8gigs of ram,..
I think shit should run a lot better,.. That is all what I am saying,..

Of course I will be getting Shogun2 ,.. I love Total war games,..

bumnut5479d ago

I have an i7 950 @3.7Ghz, 12 Gig ddr3 1600 and an ATI 5870.

I can max the game at 1920 x 1200 and still get a great framerate.

Can't apply AA though for some reason as the AA drop down menu is empty.

macky3015479d ago

wow,..are you serious,..?
Well,.. Maybe I have something wrong with the gpu drivers or something,.. because except for you having 4Gigs more ram, my preformance should be somewhere there,..

have to look into it,.. thanx!

bumnut5479d ago

not sure if the extra ram is used, i just bought an extra 6 gig because it is cheap :)

Agent VX5480d ago

I am not worried, I have a crossfired 6870, only bottle neck I have is I am still running a 3GHz Intel Dual Core with older RAM.

New Motherboard, with AMD Phenom II X6 1100T Black Edition 3.3GHz w/ 9MB Cache and 8GB of RAM is just around the corner.

This system will allow me to play any game on Max setting, and I will be able to encode HD video at an insane rate. Ahhhhhh!!!! The Power of a PC....

Xfanboy5480d ago

yeah I enjoyed the demo! It's a buy for me!

Caleb_1415480d ago

I have pretty much the same specs as the person who wrote this article and am suffering with the same issues :/ After 2 iterations I'd expect CA to have ironed out the issues with the warscape engine and be able to run the games at a good consistent framerate on high settings but after a huge battle the lag that comes from the bodies left over is just system crushing.

I still own those systems, and many games that were built for them.
Thank you for an amazing part of my childhood.
Rest in Peace Legend.

Agent7511d ago

He joined SEGA in 1971, wow. The Mega Drive, Saturn and Dreamcast hold the best memories for me, more so the Mega Drive. Thanks for the memories, Hideki-sama.

gigoran811d ago

Sega's swan song, their best and most memorable console, the dreamcast. it will last for generations

ZycoFox11d ago

Dreamcast was a very good console, with some minor setbacks, no 2nd stick and could've used a bit more disc space. The main thing that let it down was support, the short time it was on the market it did still bring in a bunch of really good titles, if only it had another 2-3 years and more longer story based games as well as the arcade games.

I would say because of the above the Mega Drive / Genesis is probably their best, simply because of the wide range of support and amount of quality games.

Profchaos11d ago

Yeah also massive mega drive fan it's my favourite to

Loktai11d ago

there was a point in time where the DC was meant to have a MATROX gpu possibly, as well as other contenders and if it had along with a possible DVD drive and price hike it would be a totally different beast.

RaiderNation11d ago (Edited 11d ago )

Yeah, I loved the Dreamcast, but massive oversight not including a right analog stick. A very strange design decision considering that dual analog was already standardized by Sony during the PS1 generation. Virtual On was literally unplayable on the controller because of it.

1nsomniac11d ago

^ I had Virtua On and loved it.. what made it unplayable?

shinXseijuro11d ago

I was 8 years old when Dreamcast came out I don’t know for other people but it was the coolest thing to me when I could go play it at my older siblings . I finally bought my own Dreamcast around 2005 , when I was in high school and was old enough to save money . Had a blast with jet set radio , sonic adventures 1&2 , shuffle , code Veronica , Power stone 1&2 , crazy taxi . House of the dead Arcade style shooter. . I even had the reindeer bot CD for burnt games . Oh and I remember lending a friend a copy of SF alpha 3 Dreamcast with the box …. Dude never gave it back to me 🤣

Shenmue blew me away, and took me to a place i had never been before (until years later)

Agent756d ago

Shenmue was unreal back in the day. It was painful waiting for the sequel and it perfectly carried on from the first game. Shenmue 3 on the PS4 looks like a Dreamcast game and carried on as if it was running on the Dreamcast. A Shenmue trilogy is overdue. Not sure if we’ll ever see Shenmue 4, but SEGA went with Yakuza, a Shenmue clone, which is probably why Shenmue was forgotten. If Shenmue had been ported to the PS2 after the Dreamcast dropped off, things may have been different.

Relientk7711d ago

I love my Sega Genesis. I have childhood memories playing that console which will never fade.

Agent756d ago

It was the best console for sport games by a long shot. Having a UK Mega Drive in 1991, playing US and Japanese games using a Honeybee adaptor was awesome. I think Europe only got around 250 games out of around 800 that got released.
