Hmmm...a bit disappointed with the voice acting. There's no doubt Yvonne Strahovsky and Jensen Ackles are both great voice actors, but their voices don't seem to fit this game. I don't know if it's because they're trying to match the Japanese mouth animations or if it's because of the awkward script, but it sounds so...stilted and unnatural.

With that being said, I wasn't a fan of the Japanese VAs either. Especially Aya's. I love Maaya Sakamoto, but her voice is far too light and chirpy for a character like Aya. When I think of a tough badass with a troubled past, I don't think "light and chirpy."

I just hope Square Enix haven't forgotten what type of character Aya is. I don't want another Metroid Other M situation.

I dunno...maybe that's just me though.

Troll-without-Bridge5554d ago

Metroid other M was the first time samus actually had a character, with fears, hopes, weaknesses and strengths, instead of the regular robotic 1 dimensional model.

Pozzle5554d ago (Edited 5554d ago )

But j because she was a more developed character, doesn't mean it was good development.
Give me tough, badass one-dimensional Samus over whiny, weak damsel-in-distress Samus any day.

Troll-without-Bridge5554d ago (Edited 5554d ago )

No it just means she HAD a character. The old samus was just a face on a model, it had no personality.

in other M she is not weak, she is strong, tough and determined, everything that showed fragility was part of flashbacks of her progress as a soldier during her youth. Im sorry for you if you think that makes a character weak. Talk about the american school of mentality: bad-ass no emotion= cool, Well developed, human character = lame.

Pozzle5554d ago

If you have a character who has been a badass with little emotion for over ten years, then decide to change that (regardless of whether it's in flashbacks or not), of course people are going to be upset. It's like suddenly turning Princess Peach into a gun-slinging shit-talker with a troubled past. Sure, she might have more personality, but it isn't Princess Peach anymore. Shitty example, but you get my point.

The same applies to Aya. She has always been the strong, silent badass type. Obviously I haven't played 3rd Birthday yet, but I'm a little wary of this delving into her personality and her past because it looks like her character has been changed to fit that plotline. I just hope I'm wrong about that.

p.s. I'm not American. But hooray for stereotyping, right?

Troll-without-Bridge5554d ago

Not really, if you have a character for 10 years which hasnt showed anything about themselves but has tremendous potential, as a fan i would expect some sort of new development to get to know said character. This isnt the 8 bit era anymore.

If you're not american it just leaves you out of excuses for that kind of mentality.

Inception5554d ago (Edited 5554d ago )

@Pozzle
Maybe you can play the game 1st before you gave the final judgement. Remember, this is the 1st game that Aya Brea (and other characters from Parasite Eve) had a voice in her / their dialogue. And for me, Yvone had a good voice that fit Aya's character. Even though i prefer the japanese one.

Bring it Back | Parasite Eve

From Japanese horror novel to game, the Parasite Eve franchise deserves a redemption arc in this week’s edition of Bring it Back.

NecrumOddBoy1934d ago

The original was a really unique RPG. Cool combat system too. Whatever they did with the PSP Version... don’t ever do that again. Would like to see this series return.

CrimsonWing691933d ago

I think the reason why they won't bring it back is due to the licensing and the failure of that abysmal PSP game.

I think Square should try to attempt a reboot without the whole use of "Eve", since Aya is an original creation I would assume they could still use her, and maybe come up with a new threat and implement all the mechanics from the original but modernize it. Y'know, something like FF7's hybrid combat system would be awesome.

The problem comes down to Square willing to take a risk. They could dump all this effort and money into a project and it could bomb in sales. I miss the days when developers could come up with any idea and get a game green-lit even if it wasn't a guaranteed success.

Ashamed to say this is a gap in my gaming experience here. Never played the Parasite Eve titles. I do have a PS2 sat under my TV, if you have no nostalgia for the games, do you reckon they hold up?

Agreed.

Both PSP and DS were the very top of handheld gaming at that time. I never would have foresaw the decline in handheld gaming that we see today. So many companies had PSP titles, KH, FF, MGS, GTA etc A rare time and I don't know if we'll even see that type of support for handheld like we saw back then.

I never played Persona 3 on PSP though, I played it on PS2 and got it again on PS3 when it was on PSN, same with Persona 4, but everyone tells me Persona 4 on Vita is a lot better.

Fist4achin3189d ago

P4 golden on the Vita is excellent and if you have a Vita, it is definitely worth another go around.

I wish the Vita got half the support the psp did. I'm don't mean to complain but I feel it was just shorted. Oh well.

_-EDMIX-_3189d ago

@Fist- Well I have the PSTV and I did want to play Persona 4 again, I might pick up the Vita version.

It sucks Vita didn't get that same type of support, but the market has changed so much. So many phone games its not even funny. Its why when I hear a JRPG announcement, first thing I thinking about is "please don't be mobile" lol

VersusDMC3189d ago

Replace 3rd birthday with peace walker or Dissidia and it will be an excellent list. 3rd birthday is great mechanically but the story is attrocious as a parasite eve sequel.

kakakaja3189d ago

Peace Walker and Dissidia were amazing titles as well, no doubt.

MetalGearsofWar3189d ago

This saddens me, because there will never be a proper successor to psp.

It's coming back on ps4, in a remaster.

KOIMOJO3332d ago

Interesting little thought piece. I feel like Parasite Eve and Syphon Filter could still have legs.

jokerman273332d ago

I hope Parasite Eve does, it is one of my favorite franchises EVER!

gangsta_red3332d ago

That Ghost n Goblins game for the PSP was the ultimate lesson in pain.

Capcom should make a collection and bring that game back.

Protagonist3331d ago

Ultimate Ghosts 'n Goblins was hard as hell, did beat it though... yet I did not, because when finishing the game, it encourage you to play through a second time in order to face off against the real final boss. Never did that... too much pain...

gangsta_red3331d ago

You're a braver soldier than me. There was a part that I just couldnt get past and I gave up im defeat.

jokerman273331d ago

They may, we are getting a Disney Afternoon Collection of all their old Disney games, maybe Arthur is next!
