Halo 3 Graphics Evolved

GameSpot writes:
Sometimes it can be easy to forget that the original Halo and its sequel Halo 2 both came out on the same console, the original Xbox. The Bungie development team was able to use its experience with the platform to make Halo 2's graphics superior to the original even though both games were designed for the same console. The graphics leap from Halo to Halo 2 was impressive, but it also raised our expectations for Halo 3. If Bungie could make Halo 2 look that good on the Xbox, just imagine what Halo is going to look like on the Xbox 360.

It's a rather good comparison and some of them show real improvement from Halo 1 to 2 to 3. The lightning effects are the best.

JokesOnYou6687d ago (Edited 6687d ago )

I don't know how some will still deny that Halo3 looks alot better than Halo2 in HD, and here's yet more side by side comparisons proving the haters wrong, right in their face=

nice quality news MK Red,

@ the haters=

JOY

HateFanboys6686d ago

It doesn't prove them wrong, these comparisons are deceiving, cuz when you look at the game in real life, it really does just look like an improved Halo, it doesn't look leaps and bounds better. Its a nice looking game, and i think the graphics are the best part of the game. But whats that say about the game? i do not like the way this version of the game plays in comparison to the last two games. Its lost its feel, it feels too floaty, too loose, to weak, the rumbling is weak, and just doesn't feel intense at all. When you shoot the guys, they barely react to it making it hard to tell if you're really hitting them when they are far away. The game also feels way easier. and where is this all so intelligent AI? This just reminds me of COD3, where the game looked better than part 2, but didnt play better. The game is definitely overrated in my book. And the game doesnt even have anti-aliasing turned on, on 720P. Mediocre at best. You fanboys just sweat stupid sh!t, period!

Close_Second6687d ago

...that Halo 3 is merely Halo 2 but in HD. Halo 3 is better than that however, its still not all it could of been...is it?

Maybe Halo 4 (will there be one) will be the true leap into next-gen we were all expecting.

Ludwig6687d ago

His point is that the knowledge aquired on the Xbox1 wasn't going to help as much as it did from 1 to 2 .. so their knowledge on 360's hardware now due to Halo 3 is going to make the next game really shine.

TitanUp6687d ago

halo 3 is awesome i disagree with anyone that says its halo 2 in hd.

mighty_douche6687d ago (Edited 6686d ago )

ok first off let me say halo 3 looks good, but when M$ push their GPU saying it was designed to have full HDR lighting and AA without even pushing it, that clearly isnt the case is it, halo 3 is the 360's BIGGEST game and their cash cow so i would of expected them not to rest on halo until it really set new levels on the xbox. it seems to me they spent more time on the environments and just seemed to slap the charactor models together at the end.

i wouldnt be surprised if bungie would of wanted more time on this game and M$ said NO.

edit: obviously graphics arent the most important part of a game, but they really help to get you into it. what gets me is xbox fanboy constantly bashed the graphics on the ps3 and now that their top game is getting a little negative feed back about its graphics suddenly its... 'graphics arent that important...' 'yeah but the gameplay is what matters...'

personally if i waited over 2 years for a game that was to be released on a completely new system i would of wanted a hugh leap in all aspects of the game, graphics, story, animations etc etc i personally think bungie has fallen far short of what all the fanboys claimed it would be.

oh and Nostredame, regardless of what your avatar may say my PS3 seems to perfectly alive and kicking.

Saint Sony6687d ago

They spent most of the time making the GAME itself not just GFX. There are other things in game than GFX, but most of here does not seem to get it. Anyhow, anyone who says HALO3 looks like HALO2 should get their eyes/head checked.

...and MS gave all the money Bungie wanted and $25mil bonus to the team.

Ravenator5296686d ago

Newsflash for ya, Halo 3 has sold over $170 million in sales in just one day. And that is only in the United States!!

It broke the record for entertainment releases on day one. Beating out blockbuster movies such as Spiderman 3 and the most recent Harry Potter book.

So I think the whole "cashcow" thing is working out for M$ quite well!

Regardless of you ignorant, biased, and uneducated arguments about this game.

That's Microsoft's gaming division for you...kill off developers making new ip while trying to capitalize off some long lost glory that has no hope of ever being what it once was thanks to recent decision making favoring unrealistic profit goals and greed. What a joke.

Reaper22_76d ago

So much bitterness. Why be upset over something like this. Just don't buy it and stick with what you prefer.

Tacoboto76d ago

Complaining about Microsoft is the only thing people comment here for anymore.

This website is practically dead without it

Mmmkay76d ago

I remember when you guys constantly complained about Sony remaking and remastering games. Guess it is cool now. As usual.

thesoftware73076d ago

Give it rest medman..., take a deep breath and try to not sound so invested in something no one is forcing you to read, buy, or play.

"Console war"is over, Sony won, be happy.

medman71d ago (Edited 71d ago )

@thesoftware730
I'm invested in people losing their jobs and their livelihoods while Microsoft execs tout record profits for their gaming division. Not sure why you wouldn't be invested. Could be you one day. Good luck.

Travesty76d ago

So what’s their solution to having multiplayer? Wait until Halo 7?
That was one of the most memorable parts of Halo..

monkey60276d ago

I'm not sure spending the heavy investment in time to recreate the multiplayer here is the answer either though.
Remaking the campaigns is a great idea to bring the new players up to speed. But if the multiplayer is included in each it'll just fracture the player base of each release.
I think it might be better to turn these campaigns out quicker and have 1 multiplayer game to keep everyone in one place

Travesty76d ago

Maybe having an Halo Online and just release the Combat Evolve maps. And when Halo 2 releases have those maps release. I don’t know but I would like to play a newer version of Halo multiplayer. I know times have changed, and Fortnite is all younger kids really play. But back then it was Halo and you connecting 6 Xbox’s together lol.

jjb198176d ago

I agree. I think that'll segment the playerbase and once 7 comes out, players might realize it sucks and go back to the older games. Especially if 7 is live-servixe, they'll be shooting themselves in the foot on the one good leg they have to stand on.

crazyCoconuts76d ago

Kinda surprised they didn't just port MCC.
Maybe more $ to by made with separate remasters

Inverno76d ago

Wouldn't have that problem if it were MCC being released. Gotta wait for 7 to be disappointed with MP all over again cause if they half baked Infinite what makes people think they won't half bake the next game? MP works in past HALO games not cause of nostalgia but because it's MP that isn't concerned with the endless service approach.

JEECE76d ago

There is so much cognitive dissonance over Infinite. People say they didn't like it because it was a live service. Yet if you look at what the criticisms of it were at the time it came out and when the playerbase started falling off, the primary issue people had was a lack of updates. In other words, it wasn't enough of a live service.

Which is really an encapsulation of the problem with multiplayer today. So many people think that they want to go back to the "good old days" of mid-2000s multiplayer (The first few Halos, Socom, the first few Battlefields, CS 1.6, etc), but in reality if a multiplayer game like that came out today, people would whine about the lack of content within a month of launch and go back to a live service with a grindy progression system.

isarai76d ago

Why not just port the MCC? 🤔 That was the easiest layup ever and you completely missed it

franwex76d ago

30% profit margins! People will pay $70+ for remakes!

Software_Lover76d ago

I thought the same thing, then I realized that they wouldn't include the remakes in that edition. We may get a different version of Halo MCC in the future with all of the remakes included. I just want them to include Halo 5 at some point for PC.

TheColbertinator76d ago

Can they remake Reach too with the multiplayer?

Knightofelemia76d ago

I wonder if Microsoft will port Reach over to Playstation I quite enjoyed that game. I played Halo 3 and it was not bad I have Halo 2 on the OG Xbox I just need some cables to hook up to my tv to play it.

Still have my Silent Hill 1 copy

P_Bomb180d ago

So do I! It goes for a nice sum these days, but I ain’t sellin’!

Puty179d ago

Can we have SH1 on PS Store?

SimpleSlave179d ago

It's crazy to think that GOG will have Silent Hill 1/2/4, Dino Crisis 2, and Resident Evil 2/3 before the PSN. What the actual fudge is Sony even doing over there?

FinalFantasyFanatic179d ago

I will probably pick up Silent Hill 1 right away if GOG gets it, I grabbed BOF4 as soon as it was released, haven't picked up Dino Crisis yet since I already bought it on PS.

Dear God it's been 4 years since infinite and no official update on anything lol.

Tacoboto221d ago

No official update on anything?

They replaced studio leadership
They changed the studio name
They announced the change to UE5
... all while supporting Infinite

The support to Infinite isn't what it originally should have been but they've still been providing tons of official updates over the years, and as recently as two months ago added a brand new weapon.

GamerRN220d ago

I think remaking Halo Combat Evolved, and going to 2 and 3 again, will help give the studio an idea of how to make a Halo game feel like Halo again

Tacoboto220d ago

Infinite did feel like Halo, that's not what the complaints were...

The complaints were almost literally everything else. Monetization, netcode and desync, the campaign structure, story, and single biome, the weaker-than-expected post-launch content.

InUrFoxHole220d ago

Gotta agree. Infinite felt like halo.

Profchaos221d ago

Dev times in modern days 4 years of silence isn't unheard of when things are running smoothly.

And around 6 months ago 343 did show a tech demo of ue5 using halo assets so it's not radio silence.

Given all the shake ups i am more surprised we're getting anything next year at all.

RaidenBlack221d ago (Edited 221d ago )

They coulda started with Halo 3 remake ... I know Halo CE remaster was not proper with the art style but still, remaking after a remaster seems dull, when Halo 3 and Reach have started to show some age.

PhillyDonJawn221d ago

Yeah I hate they used Halo reach artstyle. Hope this remake feel authentic yet fresh

--Onilink--221d ago

Probably the simplest to work around with. They are reportedly doing it in UE5, so its just as much an Anniversary thing, as its probably the studio getting familiar and setting up their tools and processes in the engine with an actual game, to facilitate the development of the next Halo

Profchaos221d ago

I'm guessing combat evolved has a smaller scope in general the later half of the game features a ton of backtracking and reused assets making it a easier game to remake on a deadline

Its also a better choice if this is the first game to be multiplatform mind you I think it's pretty much a given that anyone with a passing curiosity has played this by now in some way be it pc or brought a used console for a few bucks

darthv72221d ago

This will likely come to PS5 at the same time. 25 years of XB.... shared with PS.

Obscure_Observer221d ago

It´s gonna be among best sellers on PS Store next year regardless.

raWfodog220d ago (Edited 220d ago )

I would love to see Lost Odyssey come over to PS5. I would definitely buy that again. That was the first game that I played on my 360. Loved the story and battle system. One of the best JRPGs of all time in my opinion.
