I guess the game will be announced in the upcoming E3 with a 2012 release date.

hardcore19125606d ago

I agree with you. Also, I predict that GTA5 is going to be released in May 2012. Red Dead Redemption was released in May 2010 and L.A noire is going to be released in May 2011. So maybe we will see GTA5 get released in May 2012.

metsgaming5606d ago

getting saints row 3 instead unless rockstar goes back to what made gta good which i dont see happening.

CaptainPunch5606d ago

the first two games sucked, what makes you think the third one will be any good? I buy GTA for the awesome story, and the open world gameplay.

Eiffel5606d ago

Why is everyone so quick to assume the next GTA will be called "GTA V" for all we know Rockstar could have plans for another location GTA.

Lamarthedancer5606d ago (Edited 5606d ago )

I think it's because the two DLC for GTA4 were classed as what Vice City and San Andreas were to GTA 3

Eiffel5606d ago

That could be why. That would be down right cheap if Rockstar classified those two as apart of the title line up. Then again they are called. "GTA IV: The Ballad Of Gay Tony, GTA IV: The Lost & The Damned." so that just adds speculation that a new location is next.

BryanBegins5606d ago (Edited 5606d ago )

It's not so much an assumption about the title than a quick and easy way to talk about the next GTA, since we don't know the title.

But we all know it won't be called GTA V since it will likely use the same engine as GTA IV.

And btw, who the hell classes the (good) DLC as the equivalent of Vice City and San Andreas?? If anything, the two DLC are equivalent to Liberty and Vice City stories on the PSP/PS2

jbiz3205606d ago

@badboy808 youd be stupid to think so..

Blaze9295606d ago

GTAV this year isn't happening. That's just a stupid thought (but then again, I look at the site that wrote this).

There are already enough titles from Rockstar/Take-Two that GTAV would be pointless. Besides, going off Take-Two's record, they'd just delay it...and delay it again, and then some more.

And Agent anyone? Like GTAV would come out before Agent...and if it does that's just sad. I wonder what's up with that game.

homersimpson5606d ago

Who the fuck cares what pachter says... honestly

tablav5605d ago (Edited 5605d ago )

I can't believe anyone is taking Pachter seriously. What's that? Wii HD in 2008? Idiot.

MrBeatdown5606d ago (Edited 5606d ago )

I don't understand why people keep thinking it will be announced at E3. When has Rockstar ever unveiled a game at E3? Hell, I can't even remember hearing anything about a Rockstar game at E3.

Fact is, Rockstar doesn't need E3. They can announce it any time they want and people will take notice. Why compete with a thousand other announcements, when you can pick a day to have all to yourself? I'm expecting a spring reveal and a October release date.

kaveti66165606d ago (Edited 5606d ago )

They unveiled AGENT at E3.

That's it. You're done. You failed.

edit: no. rockstar's ceo came up on stage and unveiled it. don't try to scrape your way out of the cage you put yourself in.

MrBeatdown5606d ago (Edited 5606d ago )

If by "they" you mean Sony, not Rockstar, and by "unveiled" you mean gave you a name and logo and kept you waiting for a year and a half for information, then you'd be right. Unfortunately for you, that wasn't what I was talking about. MS also announced GTA4. But like I said, they have never "unveiled a game at E3" which is true. Any game they "announced" was nothing more than confirmation that a game existed. "Unveiling" as in giving us actual details on the game, a trailer, screenshots, or anything of that sort has never been shown at E3, at least as far as I can remember.

"edit: no. rockstar's ceo came up on stage and unveiled it. don't try to scrape your way out of the cage you put yourself in."

Jack Tretton announced Agent.

Peter Moore announced GTA4.

Way to fail, buddy.

Announcement this year, and released next year in May. Sounds about right.

PlayStation Store’s top downloads of 2025

O'Dell Harmon Jr. writes: "Before we say goodbye to 2025, let’s take a look back and see what were the most downloaded games of the year. It was a great time for sports, shooters, and some new PlayStation VR2 games. Sports favorites topped the charts in US/Canada and EU, with NBA 2K26 and EA Sports FC26, respectively.

Juggernaut GTA V found a home in the top three for both regions, with new 2025 release Battlefield 6 claiming second place in the US. Fortnite took top place for free-to-play games, and Beat Saber continues its PS VR2 success."

FH5 4th in Europe compared to North America 14th. Not surprising.

LucasRuinedChildhood163d ago

I think it shows how shortsighted it was for Sony to let go of Evolution and not get them to make some sort of competitor (open world Driveclub?) 10 years ago.

bionicstar163d ago (Edited 163d ago )

its a hard bet to make. hindsight is always 20/20.

Christopher163d ago

After Driveclub's reception, hard to say it would have done well enough to compete. It's easy to dream of such a thing, but to make it happen? It's taken how long for CoD to be dethroned? And it was dethroned by Hogwart's Legacy and has gained it right back just the next year.

It’s funny to watch the only games EU and USA agree on was Minecraft and back ops 7 both regions on 6 and 7 spot respectively other than that FIFA rules EU

gold_drake163d ago

yeh, football is really popular here in europe ha

I would like to see a list that has both free to play and paid games together, but at least we have this.

To this day GTA5 is a top downloaded game and it makes me wonder if the industry is really ready for GTA6. I imagine almost nothing else will sell during that game's release window.

I’ve never played Fortnite GTAV or CoD BO7 but I do own GTAV for PS4/5 because I got them cheap.

gold_drake171d ago

i think we should either take those games out, or make a singleplayer list too ha

badboyz09171d ago

I still play gta V alot. The others nah.

Popsicle171d ago

This is why we can’t have nice things.

Tacoboto171d ago

What exactly are we not getting?

Did we not just have a 2025 filled with nice games like...

Silksong, Doom TDA, Expedition 33, Kingdom Come Deliverance 2, Ghost of Yotei, Dispatch, Split Fiction, Hades 2, DK Bananza, and so many more?

Popsicle171d ago

Agree that all you just posted are great games. Expedition 33 is one of my favorites. Spent a large chunk of time on BG3 in 2023. Another for my all-time list.

My point though not well articulated in the OG post is that we would get more of the games of the quality you mentioned if so many valuable resources were not allocated to FTP slop and/or heavy monetization schemes. Some of what used to be my favorite franchises have been ruined by them.

To sum it up, I would like to see games like 33 outperform the profits made by games like Fortnite so more resources are allocated to great games. When heavily monetized FTP games are at the top of the list, we end up being stuck with a significant chunk of games that are not good. Or worst case scenario games that spend years in development, but get cancelled due to industry trend chasing.

cloganart171d ago

Such a pessimistic view. This year gave so many good games.

Christopher171d ago

Popsicle, I actually think we're getting more great games because of the slop. Developers are seeing that people aren't happy and taking advantage of big AAA studios not delivering for people.

Popsicle171d ago (Edited 171d ago )

Perhaps, and I hope you’re right. A shift is needed IMO
