well lair was hyped but its not the most hyped. What I call overhyped is a game thats really just average but becasue of its hype sells tons and people consider it great. Lair had hype, but was bad enough that the hype did not sell it. I enjoyed lair but it was very underwhelming. According to my defination of overhyped halo is on the list. lol.

What a sad sad excuse for a shameless Halo Plug. I mean seriously. The article was the worst and most inaccurate from any i've read. Talk about 3 of the lamest "Hyped" games.

IMO overhyped is based on ppl's opinions, and I believe these are the most overhyped games. In no particular order.

halo series (unreal tournament does multiplayer so much better than halo series)

Half life 2 (the single player was a bore fest, I guess I can fall back on counterstrike for better graphics

Daikatanta (frog and insect fights woot)

DNF (vaporware)

metal gear solid series(very very good action stealth game but does not live up to the high high ratings)

Devil May cry (sigh extreme button masher nothing more)

Forza motosports (constant hype yet it still does not come close to the game mechanics of GT series)

Guitar Hero Series (sorry I dont really classify these as games)

Grand Theft Auto series (cant put my hand on why I dont like it, but I think its overhyped)

MAdden series( same stuff over and over and over again, then again thats for most sports games)

Doom 3 ( I really loved this game, but there was a bit too much hype behind it since it was carrying the legacy of doom and ID name)

They only put Halo 3 in there because they HAD to. Otherwise, the article would have been complete BS. It should have been #1 too.

It's halo 2 in hd w/ added weapons lol. I've been a halo fan despite not owning a 360 but when I played it, it just felt like a downloadable game. For all the hardcore halo fans that have their face up their a s es, stop overhyping this game.

Pac-Man over hyped is total BS .. the game INTRODUCED video games to the main stream so it had 2 jobs to do .. Dragon's Lair MAYBE.

HALO didnt have that hook to keep me playing the way i was playing GEARS when it was released. no doubt HALO is a fun game but in no way is it ever going to be played to death the way GEARS has been played on my 360.

Hyped does not equal bad. Simply that's over-market.
Take Pacman for example... hyped? heck yeah... everyone wanted to play that game.. I don't think there is one person on earth that does not know about Pacman.. the media still goes crazy over Pacman and even lots of restaurants were made in it's honor... bad game? hell no.
Is Halo 3 hyped? yeah... but it's not a bad game. That's the result of how easy it is to get the information to people now in days... everything can be over exposed now in days... good and bad games.
Most games now in days get media exposure even years before they are released and the internet spread it like a virus.. fans make websites, articles are posted all over the place.. most companies love this since they don't have to market as much.
And as I said before Hype does not equal to good or bad:

But Halo 3 was NOT overhyped.

I heard WAAAY less about it than Halo 2 before it came out, and now that I've played Halo 3, it has lived up to my expectations and beyond.

That games is AMAZING! I can't find anything about it I don't like. It has the pacing and level design of Halo, and the weaponry of Halo 2.

halo 3 wins it hands down the most hyped game in the galaxy and i cant think of another game that is as hyped as this one. it can be good if it delivers but it didn't! that is why they did not put out a demo game in the first place because they knew if people know what halo 3 is all about(it is really just halo 2.5) then a lot less people would have bought it. at least the genie is out of the bottle and people can judge for themselves and not to rely too much on review sites that can be bought and manipulated. alright peace out and enjoy your final fight.

360 has only sold what 10 to 11 million in 2 yrs.. so i guess the 360 is barely surviving too. Do the math, ps3 has only been out for 10 months and has sold almost half of what the 360 has dumby.. Ps3 will over take in 2008.. Nothing will stand in its way.. I mean nothing.. Ps3 will sell way way more systems next yr.. By the end of next yr I think the ps3 will be in the high 80k to 100k systems sold or more.. The fan boys that haven't bought there ps3 yet will buy them in 2008..

There are a lot of japs and americans still waiting to buy a ps3.. Final fantasy will get the japs all crazy and the ps3 will probably sell way more than what I stated above.. A price drop or metal gear, god of war, or socom will get the americans all crazy.. Oh yea dont let me forget Killzone 2, this will be a major system seller if it turns out to be a great game and by the looks of it, it looks freaking awesome.. A lot of 360 fans will probably want this game so they will turn to the ps3.. It will happen young grasshopper.. Patients is the key to success.. Im not worried.. Im happy a lot of good games are about to drop on the ps3 in oct, nov, and dec.. Than a lot more next yr son...

Also the 360 has no more games that will sell systems like halo 3 will.. They have good games coming out but no system sellers. I would be more worried about the 360 than the ps3 dying.. I dont think Microsoft wants to keep losing money in the console war if the ps3 takes over like last gen..

Back on subject.. Halo is the most over hyped game in the world.. And most over rated...

I can't understand why anyone would want to play a FPS game on a Console. They are awful on a console controller compared to a PC with a dedicated hand shaped gamer keyboard (wolfking for example) and a 7 button configurable high accuracy mouse.

Only FPS game on a console I own is Warhawk and I stay in vehicles and aircraft whenever possible as being on foot in that game is just not fun.

This is absolutely true about HALO3 and many other products that a publisher or manufacturer feels is an item that the public will like or are anticipating.

Somewhere in translation many of you have misconstruded overhyped to mean the product is bad. If someone keeps raving about how good Chicago style pizza is, its up to the individual receiving the stimuli to control their own thoughts on just how good said pizza will be.

What I'm trying to say is YOU the people allow hyping to get out of hand simply based on how much of what you hear you actually believe. A case in point would be, If you believed the hype and thought something was going to be off-the-chain and it was just really good, then you would feel that the product has failed you. When actually the product is really good by your own admission.

People are actually saying "HALO3 Sucks, I would give it an 8.5 at best. Then their most favorite game in the world carried an 8.4 rating and they say it is great. That's because they believed that hype and thought that HALO would be an 11 on a 1-10 scale.

Moral of my story here....There is nothing wrong with something being "overhyped" that just means it was advertised way more that it should have been.

Now "Overrated" that's a totally different thing, it means To overestimate the merits of; rate too highly. But, as far as halo3 goes no one is saying it's over rated, just overhyped which is just fine, overhyping only cost M$ money, not you.

There's a big difference between having excessive hype (Halo 3) and having excessive hype and not delivering on the promise (Daikatana, Enter the Matrix).

Halo 3 delivered on its promise and hype; Pac-Man was overpromoted in pop-culture, but was almost universally loved and played; Madden is mostly the same game each time, but was greatly improved this year.

Those games were surrounded by hype but backed it up. Daikatana and Enter the Matrix did not.

How about advertised well.. I see a McDonalds commerical every freakin 3 min on TV but do people say McDonalds over-hypes it's hamburgers? MS wants to get the message out to as many non-gamers as it can.. I think the only people that are bothered by this stuff are hardcore who follow gaming closely..

As a 360 owner we had to wait almost a year for another decent game to play (gears of war) instead of call of duty 2.. Just like people are waiting for certain games to come out on the ps3 before they buy it.. Everything is about waiting fool..

The game is simply just nothing special. It really isn't. Nothing in that game makes it stand out from the rest of the crowd.

You just WANT it to be as good as the media has "said" it is. I use quotes because...it's pretty blatently clear that you'd have to pay someone to give it a 10/10. The game doesn't deserve that.

That "believe" advertisement was FANTASTIC!!! They should've hired the ad agency to write the script for Halo 3! Then, it would be a 10/10. That ad agency is the first thing I go after when I become the CEO of SCEA...

What a surprise...sony boys think Halo 3 is over hyped. What a shocker! Losers! Halo 3 just CRUSHED the ps3's gaming library. That's not a shocker.

You guys don't know the definition of "over-hype" It's a game that has alot of hype but doesn't come thru in the end. Lair and Heavenly Sword is a perfect example. Both games were supposed to rule all and it didn't. Lair is a joke and Heavenly Sword averaged 81% and is a flop in sales. Only 70k sold. Pathetic. Over-hyped!!!

While Halo 3 is averaging 96% and breaking sales records. How is that over-hype??? That is called MEETING and EXCEEDING the hype.

I have to say i am so disappointed with halo 3, after reading the reviews and then playing i can't see how they have come to the rating they have given it. One of the laziest net gen releases i have seen, no audio improvements, guns and explosions still sound quiet and weak, the graphics are nothing new over the old xbox apart from hd and higher ress textures. the gameplay is even more railroad then usual. taking back for a refund. shame on you bungi :(

but I give Halo 3 a good score 8.5, not as good as Bioshock though. But God of War beats them both and thats old school.

Tell me again how the multiplatform strategy was supposed to fix everything. Look at your results and compare them to Nintendo, which keeps thriving with exclusives. Your loyal fans are gone. And let’s not forget the pile of IPs you purchased only to let them rot.

The worst thing is this is down from last years numbers/expectations which was down from the previous years numbers/expectations. You think about how long “down” has been a consistent part of the communication and you realize those subscriptions are what’s holding that boat together. The price cut of gamespass is still a price raise in a string of price raises. They are trying to use players to offset the missing revenue. Now call of duty is out of gamespass, which is literally WHY they bought the company. To draw people to the subscription. They realized they missed a boatload of money and that wasn’t sustainable. Now you pay for it like you would have if they never bought the company… so why buy the company? Mind you those billions still need to be paid back. Yeah it gives you a chance to say we make the biggest FPS… but the internal conversations must be brutal at high level on topics that really matter. Like revenue. Profitability. And ROI for the shopping spree.

Is this like the 10th quarter in a row they're down 33% on hardware how is that even mathematically possible. You would think their mediocrity would Plateau
