PC Gamer: Homefront Preview

Kaos haven’t been shy in touting Half-Life 2 as their inspiration. Of course they haven’t – it’s a convenient way of saying: “This is the best thing ever,” while maintaining a sense of plausible modesty. The parallels are all lined up, jostling for your attention. Mute protagonist, on-rails introduction, strong, humane female star and careful dramatic pacing – from ratcheted combat set pieces, to cutscene-free exposition. Check, check, a hundred times check.

I'm pretty damn excited about it, too. It has plenty of potential, and it looks like it will deliver!

gameplay looks pretty average.. we'll see.

showtimefolks5566d ago

but only for single player. what was sad is thq already confirming that Hf2 is under development i mean release the first game and show us its great

if this game has the same kind of atmosphere as metro 2033 where the world is so grim and stuff than we could be in for a huge game

hoping for the best can't wait to try it out hopefully there will be a demo for online beta or something

It'll def have the atmosphere no doubt, just wondering about the gameplay. I'm hoping the half life 2 allusions are true. I love that game and have yet to play a fps as engrossing since that one.

The influences from HL2 are more in how the cinematics are presented (Always first person). The gameplay isn't influenced by HL at all, which in a lot of ways isn't a bad thing.

Not to say HL played bad, I just wasn't always a fan of how the weapons fired.

Having no ability to aim was my issue with the game otherwise I found it seemless. I like how dead space 2 handles cinematics. One minute you'll be in control and the next your witnessing this awesome scene but it never cuts to a movie if you know what I mean. Like when the train falls after you cut yourself loose.

It might have a good story!
