Marvel vs Capcom 3 - Jill Valentine already on disc

SRK community member Krisan Thyme has been digging around the decrypted Marvel vs Capcom 3 disc for information. Shoryuken.com posted a rumor about this earlier, but he is back with some harder evidence. He sent in a ton of pictures and information about Jill Valentine, who apparently is unfinished on the disc.

well they took out 20 characters from the previous MVC, 10-20 DLC characters x $2-3 each x however millions download it = $$$$$ This generation is destroying gaming...

Christopher5571d ago

I'd guess that at least the art assets are on the disc for a ton of possible characters. They might do some updates for maneuver updates, but those could be on the disc as well.

aCasualGamer5571d ago (Edited 5571d ago )

Capcom are known for doing this kind of thing. Remember RE5?

"But but, the content we are offering on the disc is already enough to be a full game. The other content, *mmm money* you have to pay for, please?"

These companies make hundreds of million dollars, and they can't give us some characters already on the disc?

*num num num! MONEY! MONEY! MONEY!*

Nitrowolf25571d ago

This is just wrong. Come on Capcom you could have easily gotten more characters into this game and still have tons of DLC (So many Marvel characters and Capcom they havn't picked yet)

you know i might have been fine with this if the character Roster was a lot bigger and then get constant release of DLC characters, but come on availble from the disc? wtf is this

Dragun6195571d ago (Edited 5571d ago )

These are two incomplete characters though. I mean, look, Jill only has 2 special moves.

It would a different situation if the characters were complete & on the disc and Capcom sold an Unlock Key/DLC for it.

jwk945571d ago

The reason people are mad is because, she's on the disc period. She shoudln't be there, if she's on the disc then they should've finished her, delay the game a few weeks or however long it takes to finish everything on that disc, then release it to the public, not release the game with some stuff on the disc that you're going to have to pay for.

Jawmuncher5571d ago

@Casual Gamer

The RE5 DLC wasn't on the disc, it was small in size since all the components were there for the versus mode to work but the menus and such had to be added. Similar to the whole Halo Wars gametypes DLC. Not to say that's ok both could have been easily given through the patch system due to their size (only about 1mb each) unlock codes are always in the KB's.

What makes this a bit more lame though is that they're just sitting on it which is the worse. If it's already on the disc ok lame move, but then why go and sit on it for a month?

DORMIN5571d ago

Not surprised here.

This is Capcom's signature.

badz1495571d ago

it's not new! that's why I'm not buying anything from them at the moment knowing that I'll get 'incomplete' games! luckily there's nothing from them that has me interested! - maybe except if they come out with a new Onimusha or Onimusha collection of some sort! SCREW YOU CAPCOM!

Goddammit not this crap again Capcom. Hell, even MvsC 4 might be on the disc too.

crxss5571d ago

gotta love the bad effects of DLC.

STiRacer5570d ago

Im checking the disc right now. Maybe Zone of the Enders or Resident Evil 6 is in there.

Zimmerman5571d ago

I make it a point not to buy games like this. When money meets big business, honesty goes out the window.

Sad thing is, most people don't have a clue. We are the minority here, and gaming is going blockbuster. The masses will gobble up whatever they are fed, leaving discerning customers with no choice.

UltimateIdiot9115571d ago

Not money meets big business. It's when greed meets big business that honesty tends to go out the window.

But again, Capcom isn't a non-profit organization.

Blaine5571d ago

Yup, things like this are the reason I haven't bought a single Capcom game this gen.

I'm happy to say this is some GOOD use of hacking, for once (SEE THAT GEOHOT?). The day they have rock-solid evidence of complete content just sitting locked on the disc, then we'll need to bring Capcom to some consumer protection agency (or court) and make them give us what we paid for. Otherwise they'll keep raping us with DLC and it'll only get worse if we do nothing.

vsr5570d ago

They can put all the characters on bluray.

But they won't .

Money!!!!!!

gamingdroid5571d ago

I really don't get it, whatever else is on the disc is irrelevant. What Capcom is offering for $60 of your hard earned money (for some of you including me), is what is in the game. Why does it matter what else is on the disc?

Does it not take resources to create additional content? Why does creating a game and then the DLC have to be a sequential process?

In fact, if Capcom didn't put the unfinished work on the disc, you would have been none the wiser. Buy games based on quality, content and value, not some weird choice based some assumption about what the company might or might NOT have done!

Zimmerman5571d ago

It's like buying a value meal at McD's and then having to pay for the ketchup.

jwk945571d ago

This makes me wonder, do other companies do this too? Is this how DLC works?

Jawmuncher5571d ago

@30 Sec
Same shit happens on PS3
I think it's even happened with PC games as well

gamingdroid5571d ago (Edited 5571d ago )

I'm a Xbox 360, PS3, Wii, GameCube, orignal Xbox, Nintendo DS, PC, Dreamcast, Game Boy Advance SP, Game Boy Advance, and host of other system owner.

Are people really that naive to think since the DLC code isn't on the disc it is created after the game was finished? Are they even more naive to believe it only happens on Xbox 360 only?

I don't base my game purchase decision on when the parts where made, how it was made, how much it cost or any of that sort.

I base it on purely the quality, my preference for the title, the price and the value it gives me. Simple as that!

By the way, DLC is healthy part of the industry that is necessary to help offset the cost of game development. It might seem expensive, but it is optional and if you don't like what the original package offers, vote with your wallet.

It's not like these companies are holding back multi-player and forcing you to buy it as an add-on later? Oh, wait! Some companies already do that with EA's online pass and Sony's Online Pass for PSP games. That is a huge shift in the industry and if there is anything to complain about, that is it!

That's preventing you from sharing your game with other members of your family or friends and in some cases yourself if you get a new Xbox Live GamerTag or PSN ID. It is removing something that has been the norm to include.

Blaine5571d ago

@droid:

That's not an easy question to answer, because there is no absolute answer.

Who decides how much content is enough to charge 60$ for? Or how much development it's worth? Should it be the company, or the consumer?

I mean, by making you pay extra money to unlock parts of a game that are already on the disc you paid 60$ for, Capcom are saying "we gave you more than 60$'s worth on that disc, so if you want the rest you have to give us more". But, on the other hand, you have Polyphony Digital giving us 1000 cars and 6 years' worth for 60$ DLC-free. Should Capcom give us more for our 60$? Are PD suckers for not asking more?

Is it fair to charge for content already on the disc?

I don't think there IS an answer to this question. Only thing I know for sure, is that as consumers all we can do is criticize with our money. I don't buy Capcom products because they abuse the DLC system. Loads of people still buy their games and DLC though, so as long as they do Capcom will keep doing it. And, if at least some part of the community isn't vocal about it (ie: US) then it's only going to get WORSE.

radphil5571d ago

"It's like buying a value meal at McD's and then having to pay for the ketchup."

They already do that NOW at some McD's.

Blaine5571d ago

Nah, ketchup's on the side. It's more like buying a value meal and having to pay for the pickle that's supposed to be in your burger.

gamingdroid5571d ago

No, it's more like ordering a Hamburger and complaining there is no cheese!

Rocket Sauce5571d ago (Edited 5571d ago )

I'd say it's more like ordering a cheeseburger and getting a slab of beef with curdled milk on top. Finished cheese is 50 cents extra!

But the amount of actual beef and cheese in a McDonald's cheeseburger is pretty questionable, anyway.

budbundystyles5571d ago

I would say it's like paying for a blowjob, and getting a Roman War Helmet.

maybe they wudnt be forced to do this cheap stuff with the cost of gaming going up and everyone buying so many used games cutting their sales in half or less.......then again it still sucks and well u wud probably do it too, thats right, all of u.

and while i dont justify it, i see it as oh well, stop sounding like an old man who cant keep up with the times and get over it. MS created DLC and its here to stay, some good, some horrible

kagon015571d ago

All games that have Disc Locked Content or /cut content its horrible, period. The game its already broken and unpolished...

Only people that don't have a mind of their own defend this disgusting business tactics...

(No wonder Nintendo its the most trusted gaming company, they don't do this kind bull.... yet)

Xfanboy5571d ago

They already said no dlc for PC but someone unlocked it! was already on the disk!!!

I'm going to make some blog posts with all the information we need to Email bitch @ Managers.

Everything in this thread is correct; but what the fuck gets done about it? Its like Government, they just ignore the problems that people make from wanting improvements and better life for society in general.

But what controls both company's and governments today?

NOM'NOM'NOM MONEY MONEY MONEY MOR MONEY MORE Campaign Donations

and you dont know who it was given by...real honesty we have in the USA; Usally given from EX-companies they worked for...conflict of intrests; or they just have their vote in their pocket.

Fuck being raped by these greedy companies; Dont fucking buy their shit, just rent everything at most.

BenEViolent5570d ago

You talking about complaining gamers or the offerers of the software from which the gamers choose to give their money to?

pain777pas5570d ago

When M$ bought the GTA4 DLC thing, everyone was so happy and all that. I for one cried wolf to the anger of many that this would be slippery slope. R* may give you value for your money however, this is a license to some greedy publishers and devs to start doing this sort of BS that we find here. This gen has been BS for a while. I am playing Arc the lad right now so I could care less about games until KZ3.

showtimefolks5570d ago

capcom has fallen off big time quality wise. what i mean where a lot of their games would get 9s and stuff now 8-8.5

RE5 was nothing like RE
DR2 was same as DR 1 with more saves
DMC4 atleast to me was a good game but too much back tracking

funny thing is we all complain than a lot of us buy it anyway. speak with your wallet if you don't buy they will have to learn

FOXDIE5570d ago

f*** crapcom, they have been doing this for a long time now!

creamcheese5571d ago

are they looking into downloadable characters for mvc3, because that would be awesome.

-MD-5571d ago

Yeah paying extra on top of the $60 price tag is always awesome.

shoddy5571d ago

capcom is a rip off this gen.

Dragun6195571d ago

I don't see anything wrong with wanting more DLC characters down the line. They can use few more characters like Venom, Megaman, Samanosuke, etc. It's not like it's day one release character DLC, that's complete on the disc. In this case, Jill is incomplete. I mean, she has only 2 special moves.

Nitrowolf25571d ago

Jesus christ, if your being serious then wow. It's people like this that makes it okay for companies to do this. I mean the game is barely out and already DLC are coming and worse it's on the disc.
It's RE5 all over again.

Jawmuncher5571d ago

RE5 didn't have the DLC on the disc, it's a lot like how Halo Wars Gametype mode was look it up.

The components of the versus mode were on the disc (Since it's just rule variations of mercs)
But the menu and online lobby and such had to be added

Akth8r5571d ago (Edited 5571d ago )

I hate it when they do stuff like this. I understand that they finish a game long before the release date, in this time they advertise and ship the games (I think it's called marketing).

If they begin working on content after the game is complete(which can be months before a games release) than they can charge for it as DLC, but when they lock content and charge for it as DLC that just calls for a beating. DLC = Downloadable Content not "Downloadable file which unlocks content already on the disk which you already paid for sucker"

off topic - Capcom should make a Monster Hunter for the PS3, do they not understand that they can make a lot from this.

anasurimbor5571d ago

About your Monster Hunter comment, they do understand the profitability of the MH franchise. The PSP games sell millions, and I believe the Wii game is the one of the highest selling titles ever released on the Wii (in Japan).

Developing a new game for the PS3 from the ground up would take a lot of time and money, whereas developing new iterations/updates for their PSP series of games is relatively cheap, and HIGHLY profitable. I'm with you though, I'd love a fresh and new MH game for the PS3.

Akth8r5571d ago (Edited 5571d ago )

Monster Hunter is the only reason i got a wii, yeah my only hope for a new MH is to buy the NGP, it has backwards compatibility aswell so i can play any previous MH games.

And the NGP is gonna be solid so its a win win situation.

Baka-akaB5571d ago

actually money wise , it's smart (albeit cowardly and infuriating) to keep Monster hunter on psp .

it's unlikely to sell more on ps3 , and everyone would expect a gorgeous yet expensive ps3 version . While they can pump out MH on psp and maybe soon 3ds with the same sales figures

GSpartan7775571d ago

Her model, attack animations and alternate costumes are on the disc but if you read what Krisan Thyme wrote than you'll know she is not complete.

READ:
"Though before anyone cries out in anger at Capcom for placing DLC on the disc after knowing this, you might be very interested to know something else.. For one thing, although she has some voice work done and already on the disc, it appears as though she's still -missing- a good portion of dialogue. Namely, she's missing all of her tag-in vocals - she simply says nothing at the moment when she tags someone else in. Likewise it doesn't seem anyone else has any tag-in dialogue done for her either! Furthermore her assists are suspiciously quiet.. there's no ending taunt to them at all, barely even an audible grunt to them actually. In fact, a lot of her voice work is notably low-volume.. Her winning battle taunt is almost indecipherable, she mutters it so softly. Jill also appears to be missing any form of victory blurb at the end of battle.. Likewise, although her moveset is complete (as mentioned above) there do appear to be what I'd all balancing issues.. Her Machine Gun Hyper is a good example.. It's honestly just so horrifically terrible, that I have a hard time believing it's finished. If it's honestly done the way it is, then she'll probably have one of the worst hypers in the game in her arsenal. (Which isn't too flattering to say for a DLC character, is it?)"

Burning_Finger5571d ago

Greedcom and Greedtivision are really taking advantage of digital downloads this generation. POS like those company deserves to go bankrupt.

Every Marvel vs. Capcom Character, Together At Last

Artist Chris Cayco, who we’ve featured a few times before on Kotaku, grew up playing Marvel vs. Capcom (and Marvel vs. Street Fighter) games. His tribute to this, which took him over 175 hours, was to combine every single character to ever appear in Capcom’s crossover series in the one enormous image.

Every Capcom Vs. Game Ranked

As common as it is today, it is hard to believe that there was a time where gaming franchises crossing over was just a pipe dream. Capcom broke down the wall, but they took the combination of some of the most unlikely of franchises and made it the norm.

Whether it was a colossal successful partnership with Marvel Comics or a collaboration with rivals Namco and SNK, the “Vs.” series brought unforgettable experiences to the fighting genre.
