Does Nokia make good phones anymore?

I havent had a Nokia phone in forever..

Wikkid6665579d ago

Me either. But the prototypes for the WP7 are very nice looking.

The key here is Nokia is still the most popular brand in many countries of the world. So, MS is going to side step a head to head battle with Apple.

Nokia make the best quality smart phones, check any gadget website there tell you the same. Problem is the make smart phones with dumb software.

That's all changed now, this really could be a killer blow in the industry. Nokia are still the biggest smart phone developers, and arguably the best phone mobile phone market ever.

Backed with Microsofts software support how could it not be a killer combo.

Please backup this claim. I won't argue Nokia makes great hardware. I've had e71, n95, e52 and a few others all great in the HW department. Issue I have is WP7 isn't that great as it stands. Personally I'm confused as to why Nokia went this route and not with Android. Android has been outselling iPhone for well over a year now and continues to grow while WP7 hasn't made any sort of dent. This move by Nokia really confuses me.

Rush5579d ago

Dude, am not about to do your smart phone research for you.

Go check around the interwebs Google is your friend. WP7 hasn't been around long enough to make a dent. Android sold far worse on launch now it's a rolling success.

Nokia has ended there partnership with Intel basically just go with Microsoft. It's a massive movement in the industry if you don't understand that then you clearly don't understand the industry.

Nokia makes some of the best hardware for smart phones bar none. The issue with Nokia phones has always been the software.
Best example of this is to go to Engadget.com and look at all the reviews for Nokia Smart Phones over the past 2 years to the present and see what they say.
In every case the hardware is top notch. They blast the software.

@plb
WP7 is actually quite excellent OS. And it's only been out for a few months now.
I am currently a Android 2.2 and quite happy with it, however, i am strongly looking at upgrading to a Nokia WP7 phone with this announcement. Nokia just needed a competent software to go with its hardware.
WP7 will surprise you how fast and flowing and easy it is to use. And currently it does not suffer from major fragmentation.

Fear of Google drove Nokia-Microsoft partnership

http://www.zdnet.com/blog/b...

an they did not side step anything they still have to get the handset's out, an while it was in Microsoft's best interest's
not so much for Nokia in my opinion:

Nokia investors slam Microsoft deal, call for Elop's head

Helsinki: A Wall Street Journal report said dissenting views among Nokia Corp investors emerged on Tuesday after a group claiming to represent small shareholders in the cellphone giant called for the resignation of chief executive Stephen Elop and a reversal of the Finnish company's recently announced strategic partnership with Microsoft Corp.

A group of nine unnamed Nokia shareholders published a manifesto online Tuesday, dubbed Nokia Plan B, that sets out to counter the firm's management at Nokia's AGM scheduled May 3 in Helsinki.

MS agreed to "invest"billions with Nokia. That is why they chose them over Android.Look it up on tech sites and you'll find the Nokia quote.

The 2 companies have joined forces, like MS with Yahoo, because they are both struggling companies in this market.
Nokia market share is well done from where it once was and MS are facing hugely successful Apple and market leader Android both experiencing large growth.

"Gaming’s Biggest Fighting Franchise"

Press X to (seriously) doubt.

DarXyde35d ago

Underrated comment. I used to hate that game so much that any time my siblings asked me to play it, I just picked Hom and shut myself down mid-match.

Soy35d ago

And then MK1 killed it again.

15 years went by so fast. I remember playing through the story mode at launch.

Mortal Kombat: Flawless Victory Announced

A new book detailing the artwork of the franchise has been announced

robtion300d ago

Let me fix this title to something less click baity for you:

New Book: Mortal Kombat: Flawless Victory Announced.

Garethvk300d ago (Edited 300d ago )

The description clearly says what it is. It is not like people have to click to the site. They just have to read.

robtion300d ago

Sure they don't have to go to the site but to get to the description they already have to have clicked on it. Thus the term 'click bait'.

Rebel_Scum300d ago (Edited 300d ago )

If its a book say its a book in the article title. Everyone’s gonna think this is a new game and get annoyed reading your description.

Garethvk300d ago (Edited 300d ago )

The Mods had no issues with the title.
The first line under the image says new book and you can see it in the preview windows without even having to click to read the description.

It also says a Visual History on the image.

Rebel_Scum300d ago

On desktop and mobile the text a visual history is not visible in the thumbnail on the homepage.

I grew up on this stuff. Adding it to the art collection!

I do hope the next MK iteration goes back to the core of what made these characters appeal in the first place. A few of them lost their edge - I think I've had enough with some of the auntie designs 😂
