G4TV: Marvel vs. Capcom 3 Review

Capcom is already adding one new mode and at least two DLC characters so hopefully you’ll see additional modes and tweaks after launch. Sure, there are a few issues and the story is a missed opportunity, but there’s nothing that stands out as any reason not to go and get this game right now.

"the story is a missed opportunity"

I know a game that was docked points for such a thing. Yet this gets a perfect score?

plb5571d ago

Story? It's a fighting game!

zootang5571d ago

It's funny how you can have no story for a fighting game but need a story for a shooting game.

You don't need a reason to fight but need a reason to shoot, really?

I'm just pointing out the terrible review systems in place.

ShinMaster5571d ago

I don't play fighting games like Street Fighter or MvC for story. Except for Tekken cause they're more in your face with the story and there are more cutscenes and stuff during story battle/arcade mode than previously mentioned games.

But what the hell! They put C.Viper in there instead of a handful of other better characters and made combat even easier.
It's good, but not awesome or 5/5 game. I think we hyped this one a little too much seeing as how it's a half-assed step up from MvC2. Barely.

The majority of shooters have a story, so it is the standard in that genre to have a good story. Fighting games usually don't have story's, so that portion is overlooked. It goes both ways, a Single Player only shooter can get stellar reviews (look at Bioshock and Half Life) while if a fighting game didn't have multiplayer it would be detrimental to the score.

ShinMaster5571d ago (Edited 5571d ago )

Bioshock is a lot more unique. And Half-life is not just a shooter. It's an adventure game in first person. They have better gameplay than many of today's FPS.

Games like COD get away with practically no story and get high scores. While other game/s that have better story and atmosphere than COD games get marked down.

Psst, didn't you know? Only 1 console games get docked points for something while others go scratch free.

Low level journalism.

But I enjoy the Smash bros series even more.

Capcom vs Nintendo(Or maybe even a Nintendo vs Sony collaboration?) in the Smash bros gameplay format, would be amazing!

ShinMaster5571d ago

Jak, Daxter, Ratchet, Clank, Sly, Kratos, Cole, Drake.

It would be awesome, but I'm not sure what the possibilities of that actually happening are :(

Tripl3seis5571d ago

Yea titanz I agree with u on that one imagine sackboy fighting mario or drake fighting samus that would be awesome!!

HelghastDrake5571d ago

lol does anyone in their right mind think if this was a ps3 exclusive it would be getting these perfect scores?!?

ShinMaster5571d ago

It would be analyzed and criticized to the very last pixel and audio clip.

Every Marvel vs. Capcom Character, Together At Last

Artist Chris Cayco, who we’ve featured a few times before on Kotaku, grew up playing Marvel vs. Capcom (and Marvel vs. Street Fighter) games. His tribute to this, which took him over 175 hours, was to combine every single character to ever appear in Capcom’s crossover series in the one enormous image.

So much wasted potential

Every Capcom Vs. Game Ranked

As common as it is today, it is hard to believe that there was a time where gaming franchises crossing over was just a pipe dream. Capcom broke down the wall, but they took the combination of some of the most unlikely of franchises and made it the norm.

Whether it was a colossal successful partnership with Marvel Comics or a collaboration with rivals Namco and SNK, the “Vs.” series brought unforgettable experiences to the fighting genre.
