The new rumble means that when something explodes on your left/front side then controller will only rumble on your left/front side.

Giving you an edge on where the battle is going on.

This has to be the stupidest post I've ever read. The rate in which a games rumbles is based on how high a developer sets it for their game. It sounds as though Playstation 3 fans are grasping at straws.

I really dont care about rumble but there are a few games i really do like it. Racing games and shooters

i do like how he said u could feel where the explosions are based off the rumble...thats cool...i can see some cool things coming from that advance

it would be very nice.. it would shorten your reaction time to turn into the direction they're shooting you, and even thou the technology wouldn't be hard to make, who knows if they'd go out of their way for this to happen

I'm sorry but Shane is a complete retard. It got so bad over on the 1up boards that anyone who mentioned Shane's name in a "negative" post, was getting banned on the spot.

Don't get me wrong, I think its great that Sony has realized that rumble is a necessity. It's a much needed move that really benefits the PS3's gaming experience.

But Shane sounds like a total retard on the whole matter. Seriously, I laughed when I read what he had said. How this guy has a job in the gaming industry just boggles my mind.

He's my favorite of the EGM cast. As far as the new rumble, it's a good thing. Even if it's just the same controllers as the PS2, or if they add new stuff. We'll know once they're out.

There are a couple of reasons I will gladly buy a couple new controllers with rumble:

- The Rumble (obvious)
- The Weight - I like to have a heftier controller in my palms

The weight and the make is obviously the problem also. The PS3 controllers felt too hollow and too easily breakable. They needed to stiffen them up. I think the new DualShock 3 will do that.

It better be improved, considering it took another whole year to implement.

So next year I'm playing Resistance 2 on 60 frames per sec + next gen rumble, ooooooo sweetness :)

The xbot haters just hate that the new Dualshock 3 is much better than the Xbox 360 controller.....

I thought most PS3 owners on this site said they did'nt like rumble in games and usually turned it off because it was annoying. Not anymore I guess.

Nice to see Sony listening to their costumers and always give them what they want, proud to be a Sony electronics fan the best company in the world.

If this is true, the why didn`t Sony make some more rumble about it ? I mean, if they have some form of advanced rumble in Dual Shock 3, why not use it to their advantage over the 360 ? Some sort of "hey we`re the
company with real rumble" kind of announcement.

Still, i hope Shane is right though, a better rumble would maybe get me more excited about it. MGS-games have always made great use of it and having advanced rumble would benefit both MGS4 and (hopefully) other games as well.

In the article the word is spelt 'explostions', what is an 'explostion'? Credible sources have credible spelling. I would imagine PS3 rumble will be the best rumble made as it has newer technology but never trust a source where the spelling isn't up to scratch.

You have one Sony exec saying DS3/DS2 are basically the same and that there's not learning curve. If this is Next-gen rumble, how come Sony are not or making a fuss about it?

Shane has never, well I have never heard Shane say anything bad about Sony or the PS3. That is not good for a journalist, you guys throw the term bias around a lot but true bias only exists when a journalist praises one side always, and condemns or ignores the other side always, If they bash PS3 and bash 360 they are not biased, and the rest of the 1up crew bashes 360 all the time, but Shane NEVER bashes PS3, he is truely biased, the most biased guy in the business, suprised he has a job.

Wow its rumble, good for you sony fans. Same old rumble that everyone has had, if you like it then good news for you, on the other hand, if you didn't really miss it then theres nothing to look forward to.

Am I the only one who honestly does not care about rumble? I will not be rushing out to purchase these controllers. Hell, I will most likely get 2 more of the tilt only ones when they go on sale when the new ones come out.

I remember when Nintendo introduced the rumble pack for its N64 controllers, back with SF64. It was laughed at, and considered for the most part pointless, and then as more games started using it, and other controllers came standard with it, rumble somehow became must have.

I did not miss the rumble at all in the sixaxis, I love tilt, mostly for flow, but heavenly sword used it well also. It seems however that the lack of rumble was taken as a feature to rip on the PS3 though, and that is just sad.

But I digress, I think I am the minority.

I'm thinking they've added more rumble in other parts of the controller, but not as strong as the previous ps2 rumble etc.

So it won't take up as much battery life, but it'll only rumble where its needed.

I noticed a few Xbox fans are claiming that most of the ps3 fans were saying they didn't like rumble, but now (since it’s been implemented once again) all of the sudden they do now. In other words, a few xbox fans are insinuating that PS3 fans are hypocrites. Yes, I remember the posts of Sony and PS3 fans saying rumble is not needed.

How many PS3 fans actually post on blogs? Do you think hardcore gamers that blog represent everyone else's opinions? Using blogs as a determination of what a PS3 owner (or future PS3 owner) likes or dislikes is seriously shortsighted. Going by bloggers is a seriously limited demographic.

Granted, I am sure some of those guys lied by saying they didn't care about rumble; therefore, helping to justify the removal of it in the PS3, but that shouldn't be used as a generic sneer on other Playstation fans. I am sure many of the average PS2 gamers will want (maybe expect) rumble on the PS3 if they buy it.

like i said before,sony was lieing to us when they said that they couldn't put rumble and tilt in the same controller,the truth was that sony was sued for using rumble with out permission and they went to court and lost and they had to pay the company that invented it money and a percentage of the sales of the controller,and instead of paying the company the money that they owed them,sony decided to throw out the rumble in the ps3 controller and lie to us and say that they couldn't put both rumble and tilt in the same controller.the fact is that the same month that they said this someone showed a controller that had both tilt and rumble in it to show that it can be done.what sony did was pay what they owed the company so they could use the rumble and that's the truth.

This gen hasn't been the best for games, last gen consoles are still out there and now there's been talk of the PS6 and Xbox Two for a year or so. Many games this gen will be ported to next gen and the cycle will continue. The re-release of the Neo Geo AES+, games on cartridge for £70 ($95), gaming is going back in time. Gaming has gone pricing mad with the high cost of games, consoles and controllers. The men and women at the top are clueless.

It’s always interesting to hear behind-the-scenes stories like this, especially involving veterans like Shuhei Yoshida and leadership figures like Jim Ryan. That said, there are usually multiple sides to decisions at that level. It could be less about not “listening” and more about differences in long-term vision for PlayStation. Yoshida played a huge role in shaping the brand, so whatever the reason, his impact is undeniable.

If true, and I'm inclined to believe it is, it goes to show that Sony lost their way when they became more western/didn't respect the PlayStation origin story. Andrew House and Jack Tretton did great work, but they also didn't try to fundamentally change the PlayStation DNA. Ryan oversaw the death of Japan Studio and a live service direction.

I miss the first three generations of PlayStation. The way they turned PS3 around, we knew they meant business. We were all worried for a bit there around launch. Eventually from 2008 they started shifting slowly. But since Yoshida was fired, it's never been the same. Still enjoy my PS5 daily. I got a backlog dating back to PS2 lol So I'm fine but new games aren't as appealing anymore.

It seems like we were thrown on to the worst timeline possible where everything is too expensive and the wrong people were put in positions that makes the world a shitty place. We could have had Shu as the head of PS but we got the shitty alternative. Same goes for everyone in power around the world. Doesn’t matter the company or country the majority of us got the shitty picks and the world is declining like never before. I do think PS can come out of this because of their studios, talent and IP but they need someone more in touch with gamers leading things like Shu was. They’re still the best place for console gaming imo but it could be much better than it is especially without the massive live service failures. The rest of the world I have a lot less hope for right now. Hopefully the pendulum swings back towards the good ole days but I’m preparing for the worst.

So now there's certifiable proof that Ryan was in fact "fired", as opposed to when it was first announced that he "retired", in order to save face.

There's another guy who recently "retired" as CEO of another large gaming company, after doing a dismantling job as lead for well over a decade.

seems legit, the business man, fires the one who has ideas to move the business forward.

Jim Ryan is the reason why we are entering year 6 since the PS5 launch and many of us don't feel like the PS5 has gotten started as yet.

I hope going forward, we will see a return to form.
