GameSector - Retrospective Review: Killzone 2

GameSector writes: Killzone 3 is approaching fast. The highly anticipated shooter is on most players’ list for a good reason after its hit predecessor Killzone 2. Graphics may have solidified the franchise, but its excellent multiplayer and realistic gameplay help give it an edge against other competitive shooters. Has Killzone 2 withstood the test of time, or is Killzone 3 easily going to top it?

"The Bad
- The wait for Killzone 3"

Are you serious? What does this has to do with the review?

NecrumSlavery5580d ago

They clearly must take away points for having to wait another God-awful 14 days from this lame review to the release of one of the best shooters this gen.

@EL1TE & Fox_Mulder, allow us to partake in a group face palm.

HxCGamer5580d ago

i wanna play the beta now
but i keep getting the damn error still

i even tried switching regions

Pixelated_Army5580d ago (Edited 5580d ago )

I think he might of meant load times. the reason for the long load times could be the fact that KZ3 is around 41.5 gigs.

Dead_Cell5580d ago

Or you could take it as a compliment to the game that one of the only downsides is waiting for the next installment?

Way to get angry over nothing fanboiz.

Nitrowolf25580d ago (Edited 5580d ago )

well they (other reviewers) had that for uncharted 2
I don't think they actually took anything off, Killzone 3 was only mentioned in the intro and the end and part of the multiplayer aspect (which where they mention people are waiting for it there)

so i can't tell where they took it off, it all adds up (medium) to 8.8.

MarcusFenixITA5580d ago

If you are having problems connecting to the KZ3 Beta try to restart the game and try again. I have this problem too sometimes. The Beta has been patched but there are still problems. Try till it works.

Psycho_Mantis5580d ago

Lol, i know i read that part too. It made me want to smack my head when the wait for K3 is just less than two weeks away now. lol

disturbing_flame5580d ago

It's hard to be creative.
Some have some issues to find something bad to say about the game that have not already being said.

One thing.
How can those people talk aout the multiplayer when the game isn't out ?
Guerilla opened servers to let'em play on all the maps ?

Man KZ2 still holds up to this day. The graphics are still second to none for fps's on consoles(with the exception of KZ3).

starcrafter5580d ago

@disagrees: Name a better looking console FPS than KZ2/3? there isn't one to my knowledge :S

cochise3135580d ago (Edited 5580d ago )

Must be blind fanboys with the disagrees. They obviously can't name a better looking console fps, smh. Lol @ blind disagrees.

jammydude5580d ago (Edited 5580d ago )

You think the console version of Metro 2033 is better looking than KZ2/3? are you joking?

Kon5580d ago (Edited 5580d ago )

@jammydude this is a 2006 pic, try one more recent please. P.S The game was released in 2010. (nice try though)

Released in 2010 announced in 2009. But... i wonder if this pic is from late 09', why it has a watermark saying "2006 4A Games" (horrible try, though) Gotta love N4G, disagrees without an logic answer.

jammydude5580d ago (Edited 5580d ago )

@Kon
Metro 2033 was announced in 2009 at the games convention in Leipzig...
http://en.wikipedia.org/wik...
It's a pic from late '09 ~4 months from it's march release date. The KZ2 pic was released 6 months before KZ2's release.
(awful try, though)

Edit@ Above: I can see you don't know what a 'trademark' is.
http://en.wikipedia.org/wik...
A trademarks accompanying date denotes when the trademark has been claimed use since. The metro 2033 trademark was registered in 2006, hence the date 2006. The game wasn't in development in '06, which should have given you a clue.

Lrn2wiki
Lrn2knowledge
Lrn2fanboy

Because you have poor skills in all three aspects ;)

@Your next edit:
That was a logical answer.... :S it's a trademark, not just any random "watermark" the screenshot is from late '09

gamerz5580d ago

Do TPS count? Here's a few off the top of my head:
Metal Gear Solid 4
Uncharted 2
Vanquish

pollocks5579d ago

No, because they're not first person. Vanquish definitely doesn't look better either lol!

cochise3135580d ago (Edited 5580d ago )

BEST LOOKING CONSOLE FPS!!!!!!!!!!! The console version of metro 2033 does not look better than either KZ.

byeGollum5580d ago

here's a better looking game for you CRYSIS 2, Killzone's visuals looks like a hand drawing in comparison to My Precious *giggles* lol

although they both good looking, I think Crysis 2 looks better and yes on consoles.. tic toc tic toc its only a matter of time :D

jammydude5580d ago

No it doesn't.
-Horrible AA issues
-Low LOD
-Pop-in problems
-Low resolution textures on most geometry, character models
-Low polycount in geometry, character models
-Low shadow resolution
It does look better on PC, though. But it's not there yet on consoles, not by quite a way.

byeGollum5580d ago

you almost sound like you know what you talking bout .. nice try though :D

TKCMuzzer5580d ago

Really, please send me your 360 because it certainly does not look as good on mine.

byeGollum5580d ago

take off the goggles, try now

TKCMuzzer5580d ago (Edited 5580d ago )

No goggles for me.I can switch my TV from one input to the next and see for myself straight away. I have both machines but I would be lying if I said Crysis 2 looks better, it blatantly does not. If you think it does then I can only assume you have not compared the two on your own tv with your own eyes.
I have many 360 "fanboys" as you would refer to them who also say that Crysis 2 does not look as good, one said it through grinded teeth but he still had the bottle to admit it.(he's played both)

I can not see your PSN name on your profile. I would really hope your not judging from screen shots or online videos, that would make your comments pointless.

byeGollum5579d ago

@Muzzer, I also own both systems

and have played both. I still think Crysis 2 looks better due to the setting. Killzone looks more like a drawing come to life, especially with the dominant gray color palette. by the way I could PM you my gamertag and PSN if you dont believe me :D

TKCMuzzer5580d ago

Why has this been included in the Killzone 3 review scores section. Come on N4G, sort it out.

CJOHHHHH5580d ago

They should make a Killzone skateboarding game like they did for MGS. That would be sweet. :D

Looks like PlayStation took a hit with Marathon and is now quietly adjusting prices worldwide to recover the losses

andy8523d ago

Lets be honest raising prices doesn't do that when no one's buying it. I imagine the profit it greater selling 10 times more at a lower price

Pergele22d ago

Whatever you say buddy, let's all wear the tinfoil hats.

IceKoldKilla22d ago (Edited 22d ago )

LMFAO Your comment alone says a lot more about you than anything else. When has one game not selling 10 million copies made a company raise the prices of their console? Then Xbox would be costing $5000 by now lol. You remind of the crazy drug addicts on the street rambling on about conspiracies. xD You sure you don't need a hug, buddy?

ChunkyMonk22d ago

One game that Sony payed $200 million for. lol
Also, you sure were quick to get triggered. Maybe your the one who needs a hug?

Eonjay22d ago

If nothing else, we should be united against the real issue here. AI and unnecessary tariffs that are effecting all gamers.

Athlon10123d ago (Edited 23d ago )

The price increases are due to the RAM demand associated with AI and the US-Iran war. You can look to any business news website and local news to see that. Heck, even the 2026 Asus Zenbook Duo I've been eyeing has faced delays and has had a price increase of $400; that laptop has two specs. Asus is doing a staggered release with per-orders for the lower spec now and shipping in May and pre-orders for the higher spec that I'm eyeing starting in June. Basically, all computer manufactures are affected. It'll most likely start affecting smart phones too if it hasn't already. I can't remember the last time any major console maker (Nintendo, Sony, Sega, etc) increased the price of their console mid cycle outside of Microsoft just to make more profit.

S2Killinit22d ago

Its not the war. Its the RAM issue.

jznrpg22d ago

War is causing gas prices to rise. Transport of everything requires gas so the prices of those items go up as well. So it does have an impact

Athlon10122d ago (Edited 22d ago )

The blockage of the Straight of Hormuz due to the US-Iran war has affected raw components used in semi-conductor manufacturing such as bromine, aluminum, and helium. Iran had attacked the liquified natural gas (LNG) plant in Qatar which is a large producer (1/3 globally) of helium which is used in semiconductor etching. So it's the both the war and the RAM crises.

badz14922d ago

Oh no...should I get the Pro now before the price increase?

I dont think that'll ever happen. But i must say back in the day, they were definitely trying because they were more cash rich than their competitors.

CosmicTurtle35d ago

I think MS were and still are the richer company. They tried to acquire Sega back in the day (and considered doing so again more recently), they obviously bought exclusivity to Halo which was originally shown as a Mac title. I don’t think as a company MS can claim the moral high ground here. It’s a wilful lack of self awareness.

Of course Sony would try exactly the same if they had the resources, but when the PS2 dominated the industry was in a much healthier place with an abundance of great third parties.

This has been a depressing generation as far as first party decisions are concerned. The fact we are debating business plans rather than which game is better is a sad reflection of the state of things.

Darkseeker36d ago (Edited 36d ago )

There was Nintendo as well, Sony wouldn't have had a monopoly. In fact, the world would be better today if Xbox never existed in the first place. They pretty much brought all bad practices we have today. We might have gotten all of it either way, but not this early. In term of franchises, I don't think there is anything Microsoft released that would actually be missed if it didn't exist. Even Halo the world wouldn't notice if Halo didn't exist.

S2Killinit35d ago

MS was definitely a bad influence on gaming.

raWfodog36d ago

I think almost everyone will agree that a monopoly is not good for the industry. But that being said, the competition needs to be smart and strategic with their business. Simply buying up publishers and traditional third-party studios just to keep them out of the other companies reach is not a sustainable practice. That goes for all parties so don't think I'm just referring to Xbox.

I'm no business guru by any stretch of the imagination but I firmly believe that the best way to drive consumers to your software and hardware is to invest smart in your first-party studios. Give them full support and guidance in making unique, fun games that are only available to play in your ecosystem and the gamers will come.

Reaper22_36d ago (Edited 36d ago )

But first party studios aren't enough. They only make up a small portion of the industry. Without 3rd party there would be no industry for Microsoft or sony.Developing games take time and money and sometimes you gotta make moves to stay competitive.

raWfodog36d ago

Nah, I never said first-party was enough. I said it’s the ‘best way’ to drive gamers to your platform. 3rd-party is a free-for-all and there’s no guarantee that gamers will use your hardware to play the game. If you want to push your own software and/or hardware you need first-party, or at least exclusive deals with third-party studios.

SimpleDad36d ago

They Shure did a great job... 25 years later Xbox is dead.

Reaper22_36d ago

Then why be so emotional and continue to talk about it. Xbox will never die be ause it stays in so many people's head.

lodossrage36d ago

How can you even see him being "emotional" in that comment?

If anything, you're the emotional one, constantly trying to go at anyone that says anything against Microsoft. So when you call him emotional, it comes off as deflection

Elda35d ago

I own an XBSX & I can say it's becoming irrelevant out of the 3 current consoles.
