The Darkness II announced

2K has put an end to years of rumours by officially confirming the development of The Darkness II.

Developed by Digital Extremes and based on the supernatural horror comic book series created by Top Cow Productions, Inc., The Darkness II takes players down a brutal and personal path as Jackie Estacado, wielder of The Darkness – an ancient and ruthless force of chaos and destruction.

Rumours of Darkness II have been slipping out since 2008, where a speaker at Top Cow's New York Comic Con panel said "we can't say Darkness and video game sequel in the same sentence. So, Darkness. Wink. Sequel."

the darkness was a pretty awesome game so a sequel will be much welcomed.

gaffyh5581d ago

Absolutely loved the first game, so really happy that they've finally announced a sequel. Plus, I quite like Digital Extremes as a developer.

Istanbull5581d ago

Lol I can't believe it, I just started playing The Darkness 1. :D

One of the best early games this gen, is finally getting its long overdue sequel.

Its one of the few games, in which actually cared about the story.

dude thats so funny, just yesterday i was telling my friend how i wanted to pick up lost gems like the darkness and folklore cus i never got to experience them...i also want to try Lair, heard they patched it pretty well...

Do it! Darkness was a blast. The creepy ass, old army sequences....awesome. I was very much looking forward to a sequel to this title. I had the Darkness theme on my 360 I think a year before the game even came out. Wasn't the Darkness theme available on the 360 from day one? Then I sat around wondering when the hell this cool game would actually be released. When it did finally release, I actually skipped it and finally went back a couple of years later after I picked it up for $15 bucks somewhere. That game was so much fun, multiplayer be damned.

As for Folklore, I'm in the same boat as well. I never got around to playing it and just picked it up recently for cheap but haven't got around to popping it in yet.

Am i the only one who HATED the darkness? I played through the intro, was pretty hyped and into it until.......I got out of the crashed car and moved around. I thought i was injured but no, he moves like a fu***n snail!!! That ruined the whole game for me, all they needed was a run button or to move faster. Not worth the 4 dollars i paid.

This was the first game i enjoyed this gen. This will be a definitive must buy!

davekaos5581d ago

This was one of the first games i played on the PS3 and i absolutely loved every min of the game, great story, great atmosphere and great game.

im so hyped for this now, i seen the title and shouted FUCK YEAH then everyone at work was like WTF is up with him.

Seriously

vickers5005581d ago

Yeah, this was my second ps3 game to ever buy (the first being Resistance: Fall of Man of course).

The visuals were creepy and haunting (as well as the atmosphere), the story was one of the best this gen (although the game is pretty highly overlooked).

A sequel is definitely welcomed.

iceman065580d ago

@Vickers and Davekaos...I agree with everything that you both stated. It was the story and the atmosphere that made the game. As a plus, it really did shine as a starter title for this gen. The character models were pretty good and still stand out, imo, amongst some of the best out there. The story of the Darkness is ripe for the picking with Jackie and all of his exploits. I can't imagine where the story will go (since the game did a pretty good job of the origin story). But, I would like them to get deeper into the mind of Jackie and delve deeper into the "mystery" of the Darkness and all of it's powers.

andron5581d ago

Ah nice. The first was pretty good...

Ace_Man_65575d ago

@ Istanbull

Haha same here!

Hmm not quite the direction I wanted to see from The Darkness but hey lets see it in action first :)

jony_dols5581d ago

I liked the gritty realism of the first game.
Cell-shading is a lazy solution for glazing over graphics,
without having to create realistic charactor models and environments.

Quagmire5581d ago

Awesome. Now who's up for making a Spawn game?

Ares84PS35581d ago

I would much rather seen that than Darkness 2

dead_eye5581d ago

As long as they could make it a good one.

This is why I don't buy video games anymore. I have a huge Steam backlog and developers are gracious enough to offer their products for free. Fortnite is free, Darkness is free, lots of good free games. Thanks Humble

Nice thanks for the heads up.

I had a blast with the 1st one. It was perfect. The 2nd not that much, was pretty forgettable tbh and the cell shading, although beautiful, was not my kind of tea

That said, if they make a 3rd one they should make it a bit closer to the original's...vibe and looks.

kevnb3106d ago

Its not even made by the same team, I hate when publishers do that.

veicht3106d ago

I still enjoyed 2, it still kept some of the neat things from the first one. Having said that, the first is considerably better, I'd rather the 3rd (somehow) end up being made by machine games which seems to be where a fair amount of the darkness/butchers bay devs ended up.

chris2353106d ago

are we talking switch ports again or why is another lastGen game in the headlines?

ctrlxthroat3106d ago

I'm still hoping for a pc rerelease of the original.

Venoxn4g3106d ago

I personally enjoyed this one more than first game (even though I think first one is good too)

The Darkness: A Greek tragedy for the video game age - G4@Syfygames

Matt Ferguson from G4@Syfygames writes "When I think of tragic love stories and star-crossed lovers, I can't recall a more heart-wrenching example than Jackie Estacado and Jenny Romano from The Darkness. What begins as a romantic story between two people from very different worlds ends abruptly in a horrific tragedy, drawing many parallels from the works of Classical Greek tragedians and epic poets."

I agree! That was a great game with well played characters.

Kallisti3741d ago

Still own a copy of both of them. The Darkness III on PS4/PC/XONE would be awesome.
