Will Killzone 3 be the boost Sony needs?

Killzone 3 is an example of a Beta done well, unlike Dead Space 2 and EA's Medal of Honor This game will sell systems. Just within the Killzone 3 Beta there was plenty of content and easy game play. It so simple anyone can jump in and play. Could this be the "Halo Killer? Or is Killzone 3 going to be the "Call of Duty" Killer? No matter what, this the kind of fps Sony gamers need.

Maybe i know 4 of my friends are trading in their xbox360 to get a ps3 for all the games coming out this year. Most just want Twisted metal, socom 4,KZ3,and uncharted 3.

DelbertGrady5554d ago

Are those friends you speak of real or imaginary?

fredfenster5554d ago

Sucks to miss out doesn't it :'(

Blaze9295554d ago

you got to admit that comment was pretty funny.

ksense5554d ago (Edited 5554d ago )

I would rather have 20 85+ rated games than 2 90+ rated games. If Sony get their marketing right I think Uncharted 3 will be a big system seller for the holidays this year. Last Guardian could be a dark horse.

Biggest5554d ago

I'm trying to understand the question. The PS3 is selling beyond expectations and at one of the fastest rates in console history. There is a mountain of exclusive content already available with tons more to come. I don't see where they NEED a boost.

Slimshadyn5554d ago

GOW 3 and GT 5 did make the ps3 sell last year. They are still expected to sell 15 millions consoles by the end of the 2010 fiscal year. How is that not selling?

Killzone 3 might not be the biggest system seller but later this year when there's LBP2, Killzone 3, Infamous 2, Twisted Metal, Resistance 3, R&C, and tons of other exclusives and dozens of multiplatform games you really think people are going to pass up on a PS3 if they don't have one. If there's a price cut later this year, there's no way Sony won't at the very least close the gap to equal the 360.

And why does everyone look at the metacritic score as if it determines whether a game is good or not. Sorry but there are multiple reviews scored on it of killzone with multi-player being completely left out.

Sony doesn't need a single game to propel them ahead of the 360 in console sales. It has like a twelve step program starting with LBP 2, then Killzone 3, and ends later this year with The Last Guardian and Uncharted 3.

disturbing_flame5554d ago (Edited 5554d ago )

Man, i love even games that have a 70 metacritics score.

It's not a question of personal choice that i'm talking about, i'm just talking about those kind of games that can make people buy a new system.

It's first of all relayed by the press.
If i don't have a wii and i'm interested in a new mario and i hear or read in the press that the game is good but has some gameplay issues, the story not solid (we all know mario's scenarios are the best), etc, etc, i think i don't buy a wii ecause of this negative feedback.

Now if i am interested in FPS, and i don't have a PS3 and i want to buy one for KZ3, if i read what is said about this game :
- story mode average
- short campaign
And an amount of negative feedbacks with a 85 on metacritics i'll think twice efore buying a PS3.

That's what i'm saying.
I think the negative feedback around KZ3 for the moment will not push gamers to buy a PS3.

Now if the multiplayer is huge and fun, i think it can make people to come on it afterwards. It's in fact the gamers that will make the real feedback of the game...

And there's something funny about the recent KZ3 tests, how can major webzines can make test of a game that have half of its gameplay based on the multiplayer before the game is released. How this zine have tested the multiplayer of KZ3 one month before the game is out ?
I point also zines that give 10/10 to the game without testing the online in good conditions...
Professionalism i suppose...

@ Slimshadyn :
I think GT5 and GOW 3 have not boosted sales as Sony expected and it will be less again the case with KZ3 due to decent but not extraordinary scores it recieves.

Moentjers5554d ago

can we still compare the metacritics scores on those 2 consoles ? a 85 on ps3 might as well compare to 95 on 360.

not sure what you mean..... I've been doing it for over 3 years now.

ceedubya95554d ago

Might as well keep it and have both. Won't get much for a 360 trade anyway.

kingboy5554d ago

and how much do they get in return,i'm guessing very little

Cupid_Viper_35554d ago (Edited 5554d ago )

(In my opinion) I think Sony knows for sure that the Gaming Media is already bought out (GT5, KZ2, UC the first one, Heavenly Sword) and all the countless games that were butchered in reviews for no apparent reasons other then they came out on a PS3. So I think their new game plan is to actually release Betas or demos for PS3 owners to see for themselves if a game is indeed a 6 or 7 out of 10 or is a much better experience then that. It work with UC2, GT5 which selling better with a lesser install base I may add. and Should work the same for KZ3 as well.

As many gamers who have played th Beta disagree with the reviews, and can also spot the double standard once again, (when people mention Halo, or COD, or BF2, or Crisis1 or 2,) it's never about the story, it's always, "hey, we have some bad guys somewhere in South East Asia, or Afganistan, go kill them) but that's never a problem for those games, only KZ3 though, which is fine. Because pretty soon, If MS indeed goes the Nintendo route, and goes all Casual, then it will be all be left to Sony once again, like it was the last 2 Generations to provide the Growing Gamer, something appropriate, something more mature, more hardcore.

So I think pretty soon, those so called Journalists that gives out those paid reviews, are going to be jobless, but we have a part to play as well, We have to hold these guys accountable, which is why I've been thinking about starting up a website and keeping tabs on these guys that are now pocketing money, and robbing curious gamers out of good games and hurting the industry in the process, by robbing hard working developers of their hard earn return on their products.

anyways, my thoughts on the matter.

ForceCSW5554d ago

Although it's a bit extreme you make a good point about the recent reviews of Killzone 3. Some reviewers didn't even play the multiplayer, and gave the game a poor score based soley on its single player.

trounbyfire5554d ago (Edited 5554d ago )

nicely stated
you know 1 up said the guns feel the same and i was glad to have the beta because we know that is BS the guns feel very different. funny how that happens

about the story, i UBer happy to see more helghast culture the fact that reviewer hate it means they are not fans and just want the multiplayer. I want story and multiplayer.

i want to see stahl and sev stories

@ForceCSW
LOL ign reviewer couldn't give one reason why he basically skipped over the online. then the get condescending and say they don't have to write every last details. WHAT THE F--

seriously i am a ps3 fanboy but ign beyond host are condescending every show. they say "funny did you play the game" to their own fans.

i told them that we se trailers and articles saying how great a game is for months. the trailers look great and editors are raving about a game. then the review comes out and its a lower score than expected and some get a little up set saying it should be higher

Cupid_Viper_35554d ago

I apologize if my comments appeared to be on the extreme side, (I personally don't see the extreme of it, lol) but it's really not a biggie though how badly they rate KZ3, it was never going to be praised and get due credits because going way back to when KZ2 was first shown at E3, there we skeptics in the media, which is fine, (as a journalist of any sorts, skepticism is almost a requirement,) but KZ2 at the time of it's E3 reveal was way ahead of its time. which is why 'til this day, when people speak of graphics, the names KZ2 or Crysis and Uncharted comes up.

And as far as gameplay is concerned, well just do a quick search hear on KZ2 reviews and most reviewers complained about the weighty feelings of the gun, and gamers said that they liked it, and that if GG changed it, that the reviewers would still complain about it, well guess what, GG changed it, and people of course still complained.

another controversial thing that poped up, was that some silly reviewer claimed that he could just run and knife people in the KZ2, well Guess what? GG made sure that if that's the path you choose, then you have some pretty nice ways of doing so, by making the melee attacks very satisfying, and guess what, In one of the reviews, they labeled that as a Gimmick, lol. so the point is simple, if it's on a ps3, and it threatens to rock the industry, especially the xbox360's bread and butter (shooters) then it will be put down.

So Sony, being Sony, don't rely on reviews to sell their games, for them, Word of Mouth has always been a cheaper ,and in the long run, better and more loyal form of advertising. As opposed to MS mentality of doing things.

rob60215554d ago (Edited 5554d ago )

You make a great point, I'm saying no one was really given ample time with the multiplayer - so much of the press got angry with Sony and scored the game down because they didn't want to get left behind with a late review score- They scored the game as if it had no multiplayer at all.

8.5s isn't that bad of a score, but when you compare it to other big shooters that have no better stories (Halo 3, Halo ODST, MW2, Black Ops, Gears2, Bioshock) which are holding plush 'review events' you get the picture - corruption is rampant - People are smelling the BS.

http://kotaku.com/#!5416788...

nix5554d ago

well said Viper. i've been also saying that these 'reviewers' don't understand the fact that they are killing the gaming industry by over hyping/reviewing crap games and underrating great games. the end result after a point of time would be people not buying great games and people stop buying average (overrated) games.

personally, i really don't give a damn if they lose their jobs because of the industry's downfall but i don't want broken games like COD coming out every year.

KZ3 will help sell PS3s(mostly to the hardcore gamers who know this is the begining to a great year for the PS3) but it won't compare to UC3 when it comes out in terms of PS3 sales.

kube005554d ago

I wish Sony would have come out with cool console bundle for the game like MGS4

JimmyJames705554d ago

I think it's time I bought a PS3!

I concur sir! The beta is fantastic

Who says they need a boost? They sell at a constant rate pretty much why even worry about stupid shit.

relax, once the xbox leaves the scene, it will all be about the games again. like before ms started to mess around in the console world.

That's Microsoft's gaming division for you...kill off developers making new ip while trying to capitalize off some long lost glory that has no hope of ever being what it once was thanks to recent decision making favoring unrealistic profit goals and greed. What a joke.

So much bitterness. Why be upset over something like this. Just don't buy it and stick with what you prefer.

Tacoboto173d ago

Complaining about Microsoft is the only thing people comment here for anymore.

This website is practically dead without it

Mmmkay173d ago

I remember when you guys constantly complained about Sony remaking and remastering games. Guess it is cool now. As usual.

Give it rest medman..., take a deep breath and try to not sound so invested in something no one is forcing you to read, buy, or play.

@thesoftware730
I'm invested in people losing their jobs and their livelihoods while Microsoft execs tout record profits for their gaming division. Not sure why you wouldn't be invested. Could be you one day. Good luck.

Travesty173d ago

So what’s their solution to having multiplayer? Wait until Halo 7?
That was one of the most memorable parts of Halo..

monkey602173d ago

I'm not sure spending the heavy investment in time to recreate the multiplayer here is the answer either though.
Remaking the campaigns is a great idea to bring the new players up to speed. But if the multiplayer is included in each it'll just fracture the player base of each release.
I think it might be better to turn these campaigns out quicker and have 1 multiplayer game to keep everyone in one place

Travesty173d ago

Maybe having an Halo Online and just release the Combat Evolve maps. And when Halo 2 releases have those maps release. I don’t know but I would like to play a newer version of Halo multiplayer. I know times have changed, and Fortnite is all younger kids really play. But back then it was Halo and you connecting 6 Xbox’s together lol.

jjb1981173d ago

I agree. I think that'll segment the playerbase and once 7 comes out, players might realize it sucks and go back to the older games. Especially if 7 is live-servixe, they'll be shooting themselves in the foot on the one good leg they have to stand on.

crazyCoconuts173d ago

Kinda surprised they didn't just port MCC.
Maybe more $ to by made with separate remasters

Inverno173d ago

Wouldn't have that problem if it were MCC being released. Gotta wait for 7 to be disappointed with MP all over again cause if they half baked Infinite what makes people think they won't half bake the next game? MP works in past HALO games not cause of nostalgia but because it's MP that isn't concerned with the endless service approach.

JEECE173d ago

There is so much cognitive dissonance over Infinite. People say they didn't like it because it was a live service. Yet if you look at what the criticisms of it were at the time it came out and when the playerbase started falling off, the primary issue people had was a lack of updates. In other words, it wasn't enough of a live service.

Which is really an encapsulation of the problem with multiplayer today. So many people think that they want to go back to the "good old days" of mid-2000s multiplayer (The first few Halos, Socom, the first few Battlefields, CS 1.6, etc), but in reality if a multiplayer game like that came out today, people would whine about the lack of content within a month of launch and go back to a live service with a grindy progression system.

isarai173d ago

Why not just port the MCC? 🤔 That was the easiest layup ever and you completely missed it

franwex173d ago

30% profit margins! People will pay $70+ for remakes!

Software_Lover173d ago

I thought the same thing, then I realized that they wouldn't include the remakes in that edition. We may get a different version of Halo MCC in the future with all of the remakes included. I just want them to include Halo 5 at some point for PC.

TheColbertinator173d ago

Can they remake Reach too with the multiplayer?

Knightofelemia173d ago

I wonder if Microsoft will port Reach over to Playstation I quite enjoyed that game. I played Halo 3 and it was not bad I have Halo 2 on the OG Xbox I just need some cables to hook up to my tv to play it.

Fun game but, wow, you need a college degree to understand the controls.
A remaster would also save you from having to constantly fight the camera.
Keep the music though. Those drum and bass tracks fit really well and haven't aged. Made me think that more games could work well with drum and bass tracks, but unfortunately it's a somewhat niche genre now.

There's too many games to choose from

No Metal geat solid 1,2,3,4?
No Resident evil?
No Silent hill?
No Midnight club 3?
No NfS Underground 2?
No Final Fantasy?
No Burnout 3?
No Dragon quest 8?
No Days gone?
No Ace combat?
No Tekken/Soul calibur?......
just from the top of my head

PS1 era was full of great RPGs, PS2 was racing generation i would pick top 200 and even that would be just a fraction.

FinalFantasyFanatic514d ago

30 is way too low over the entire history of Playstation, I just wouldn't be able to narrow it down that much, I would pick 100 at least.

Storm23514d ago

Yeah...really odd list. I get that it is personal preference and I love most of the games listed, but my list would definitely be different. I agree though, it would be incredibly difficult to come up with just 30.
